Background Reports for Town Hall Attendees

What are they?

Brief, but detailed reports that help attendees learn more about the issues discussed in the town hall meeting.

They should be well researched and designed to function well during and after the meeting.

Estimated Job Growth

Page 8: Suzanne Webb webbsuza@msu.edu AIM: webbsuza Session 14

Currently, data exists that forecasts job growth in a variety of pre-existing categories that do not always map well to professional writing

Professional writers may “fit” into a number of these categories, depending on their specific interests and skills

We want to create a forecast of PW job growth in Michigan that cuts across these categories, helping future graduates to see where they are mostly likely to find a job in Michigan through the year 2012

Our Primary Data source will be the Michigan Department of Labor & Economic Growth, an agency that publishes reports on Michigan’s job market

http://www.milmi.org/

Specifically, we will be aggregating the regional data provided by DL&EG in several different series of forecast reports, including the 2008-2016 “Key Demand Occupations” reports.

We will go outside these reports for comparisons with other states and national forecasts from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics
