ST. Therese Catholic Church 701 S. Charles G. Seivers Blvd. Clinton, Tennessee 37716 Administrator’s Desk Dear parishioners of St Therese, this weekend’s liturgy suggests various themes for our reflection, but we shall meditate on Jesus’ description of what the kingdom of God may be compared using the two parables. The first parable is apparently a farmer sowing wheat and the second mustard seeds, smallest of all seeds. We see in this gospel Jesus searching for the right metaphor to pre- sent the concept of the kingdom. A farmer has sown a tiny seed; he now watches and waits for it to bear fruit. Jesus makes a comparison between the small and negligible start and the extraordinary results. The farmer is in no hurry, he simply waits and lets things happen. Whatever happens will take its own time and he must certainly not try to hurry it. He does not try to find out how this happens, but allows things to develop as they will. When the time is ripe the farmer knows that he must get to work. In as much as the majority may count in some situations, does this not suggest too, we ought not to confuse size with importance? “The bigger is sometimes not the better.” Events attracting large crowds aren't necessarily good events. Crowds could and have often been quite wrong. For example, at one time slav- ery was practiced by a majority of people in the world. Today, we know they were dreadfully wrong. Public opinion polls are not necessarily gauges of what's right or what's wrong as the media seems to suggest. The parables of Jesus today suggest, we stay with the slow movement, the first signs of the crop before it is harvest time. Don't confuse large numbers with what's right or what's good for your soul. We need to share Jesus’ words of encouragement. Everything does not depend upon us. Isn't it pride and arro- gance to think so? Besides, as Christians we ought to know by now that alone we can do nothing, but with God there's nothing we cannot do. Very often as Christians, little things turn into big things. A thought becomes a novel as it is often said; a spark grows into a forest fire! An idea can change the whole world. Jesus’ analysis of mustard seeds and grains of wheat this weekend should be a great source of encouragement to all of us; even though we may think we have little faith God can take it and make something wonderful out of it. God is always taking small and seemingly insignificant things and turning them into infinite worth. Therefore, let us not allow ourselves to be stampeded by the crowd. Administrator’s Desk

Dear parishioners of St Therese, this weekend’s liturgy suggests various themes for our reflection, but we shall meditate on Jesus’ description of what the kingdom of God may be compared using the two parables. The first parable is apparently a farmer sowing wheat and the second mustard seeds, smallest of all seeds. We see in this gospel Jesus searching for the right metaphor to pre-

sent the concept of the kingdom.

A farmer has sown a tiny seed; he now watches and waits for it to bear fruit. Jesus makes a comparison between the small and negligible start and the extraordinary results. The farmer is in no hurry, he simply waits and lets things

happen. Whatever happens will take its own time and he must certainly not try to hurry it. He does not try to find out how this happens, but allows things to develop as they will. When the time is ripe the farmer knows that he must get to

work.

In as much as the majority may count in some situations, does this not suggest too, we ought not to confuse size with importance? “The bigger is sometimes not the better.” Events attracting large crowds aren't necessarily good events. Crowds could and have often been quite wrong. For example, at one time slav-ery was practiced by a majority of people in the world. Today, we know they were dreadfully wrong. Public opinion polls are not necessarily gauges of what's

right or what's wrong as the media seems to suggest.

The parables of Jesus today suggest, we stay with the slow movement, the first signs of the crop before it is harvest time. Don't confuse large numbers with what's right or what's good for your soul. We need to share Jesus’ words of encouragement. Everything does not depend upon us. Isn't it pride and arro-gance to think so? Besides, as Christians we ought to know by now that alone we can do nothing, but with God there's nothing we cannot do. Very often as Christians, little things turn into big things. A thought becomes a novel as it is

often said; a spark grows into a forest fire!

Therefore, let us not allow ourselves to be stampeded by the

crowd. Jesus is giving us fair warning!

Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time

“This is how it is with the kingdom of

God . . .” Mk 4:26-34

Ever since the first human being considered

the possibility of life after death there have

been speculations and theories about what

such life would be. Names such as Nirvana

[Buddhist], Tian [Chinese], Kingdom of Heav-

en [Christian] have been applied to the place

or phenomenon of life after death. “Kingdom

of God” is another such term. But note that in

the two parables Jesus uses to teach the peo-

ple of his day, and us, so we are “able to un-

derstand it,” He is talking about the “kingdom

of God” that, every time we say the Our Fa-

ther, we pray will come “on earth as it is in

heaven.” He tells us that we must be like

small seeds that are scattered and grow into

large plants and produce much bounty. In al-

legorical terms he is stating very clearly that

God created us with many talents, abilities

and gifts that He expects us to spend a life-

time to discover, accept, develop and use for

OUR OWN benefit and enjoyment, AND for

the benefit and enjoyment of OTHERS. Do we

get hung up on that “OTHERS” part?
