Pastoral Perspective

Dear Parishioners,

This weekend we return to the gospel of Saint Mark. For the past five Sundays we have been reflecting upon Jesus as the bread of life. Many of His disciples left Him. What He had to say was too difficult for them to accept.

As we continue our journey through the gospel of Saint Mark, be attentive to those hard sayings. Today’s gospel Jesus reminds us that following the rules alone is not enough. Our heart must be love, therefore following the rules must be out of love.

Jesus did not say rules are unimportant, but rather we must follow the rules for the right reasons. A hard saying to live out. Sometimes it’s easier just to follow the rules, and not love.

Blessings,

Father Ken VanHaverbeke
