TRIMMING OF PALMS On Friday morning, April 7, we will be preparing and trim-ming the palms for use on Palm Sunday. We will meet in the parish hall about 9:15am that Friday to tackle this project. If you can help, give Sr. Joan a call 484-5331. Bring your own scissors with you. Thanks much!

As of the letter’s date, Cathedral parishioners had given over $2,700.00 in support of the special annual combined appeal for St. Vincent Catholic Charities and Cristo Rey Community Center promoted on the weekend of February 18th and 19th. The involvement of all the Catholic parishes in the Lan-sing region is key to the Agencies ability to meet the needs of the poor, refugees, and the marginalized in our communi-ty. Because some of the area parishes are only now involved in the main thrust of the Diocesan Capital Campaign, their appeals for these specific needs may not come until later this year. We will receive a final update once the Appeal has been conducted in all the Lansing Region parishes. Thank you for your continued support.

FOURTH SUNDAY OF LENT – LAETARE SUNDAY (This is the Sunday in Lent for ROSE vestments.) “’Seeing’ and ‘light’ are key images of today’s Gospel for this Sunday in mid-Lent. Jesus cures a man born blind – but the greater miracle is opening the eyes of those around him to ‘see’ the presence of God in their midst… Like the Jewish leaders and the temple officials, we sometimes be-come so obsessed trying to find God where God is not that we fail to see God where God actually is. We desperately want to know where God is when tragedy befalls us; we live our lives taking comfort in the erroneous notion that God is found only at certain times, in the rituals and pious practices our religion specifies. The reality is that God is most profoundly present in the simple, ordinary doing of life, in the kindness and love of others, in life itself and the gifts of the earth to sustain that life. May God grant us the vision that the blind man receives in today’s Gospel: to see the love of God present in all things.” (ConnectionsMediaWorks.com , March, 2017, 3/26/17, Jay Cormier.)

COMMUNAL PENANCE SERVICE – LANSING REGION Sunday, March 26, this weekend, St. Gerard Parish on the west side and St. Thomas Aquinas Parish in East Lansing, will both host the Lenten Communal Penance Services, both of which start at 2:00 pm. Along with song and prayer, Scripture and homily, there will be an examination of conscience to help people reflect on their lives since they last celebrated the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Individual confessions will be made available with the help of from 10 – 12 priests at each site. Please consider taking advantage of these opportunities. Confessions are heard here at St. Mary Cathedral on Sat-urdays from 2:00 – 3:30pm (not Holy Saturday, April 15), and most Thursdays from 11:30 am until all are heard (not Holy Thursday, April 13). PLEASE CONSIDER SUPPORTING THE CATHOLIC RELIEF SERVICES COLLECTION This weekend we are receiving your donations to The Catholic Relief Services Collection to respond to Jesus in disguise. This collection helps six Catholic agencies to provide relief and support to struggling communities and to work toward peace and reconciliation among our marginal-ized brothers and sisters here and around the world. Please prayerfully consider how you can support the collections. Learn more about the collection and the good it does and the services it provides at www.uscb.org/catholic-relief . A LETTER OF THANKS A letter of Thanks arrived just after the deadline for last weekend’s bulletin so I am including the message here to-day.

HOLY SPIRIT ORATORY The Holy Spirit Oratory Eucharistic Adoration Chapel is an intimate prayer chapel that has been in existence for 17 years. It is open 24/7 and is conveniently located at 3815 South Cedar Street, North of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. This is the perfect place to enter into the Holy Presence of Jesus as he is exposed in the Blessed Sacrament for your adoration. Please, take some time out of your busy day and come and experience Him radiating His love upon you. He patiently waits for your visit. We are in need of individuals who are willing to commit to one hour of adoration each week. Please contact Jack Chan at (517) 668-8113 if you are interested.

HOSPITAL MINISTRY Lansing Catholic Hospital Ministry is looking for addition-al Eucharistic Ministers to distribute Communion to Cath-olic patients at Sparrow Hospital and McLaren greater Lansing. Each hospital has an application process fol-lowed by a general orientation which is provided to every hospital volunteer through their Volunteer Services De-partment. Once this is completed, a more specific train-ing is provided which focuses on our visits with patients

and their families. Time commitment is generally one day per month for 2-3 hours at Sparrow or 1– 1/12/ hours at McLaren. For more information, contact Cassian at 364-2902 or [email protected].

A REMINDER IF YOU ARE HOSPITALIZED When you or someone you love is hospitalized, I and all our parish pastoral staff and parish community want to be a support to you. But we can’t, due to changes in pa-tient privacy regulations (HIPPA) that have been enacted by the federal government. It is important to remember the following if you are going to be hospitalized for any length of time; When you register or are admitted, tell the hospital: • That you are Catholic; • That you worship at St. Mary Cathedral, Lansing; • Give the hospital permission to tell us that you are

hospitalized. If you don’t tell them, the new regulations prevent the hospital from telling us! If they aren’t able to tell us, we may not know that you are hospitalized. Also, most folks don’t seem to realize that the hospitals do not automati-cally notify us when a parishioner is hospitalized. If you happen to be admitted through the emergency room, this is doubly true, as questions about religious preference and place of worship often slip through the cracks. The best way to make sure that we know that you’re hospital-ized is for you or a loved one to call the parish office to let us know.
