THE CARDINAL’S APPEAL SUPPORTS OUR PARISH SCHOOLS: by giving $2 Million to help enrich our youth through faith and teaching. The Catholic schools serve more than 36,000 students. In addition to coursework in Catholic religious and sacramental preparation, our schools also provide young people with service opportunities—and provide an exceptional academic education.

PRESIDENT’S DAY will be observed on Monday this week and the parish offices will be closed until 9:00 AM on Tuesday morning. There will be a recorded greeting on the telephone with the opportunity for you to leave a message in our frequently-monitored voice mailbox. Pray for President Trump and all of our elected officials, that each may do God’s good work. Like every president before him, he is a single human being, created and loved by Our Father in heaven and he needs our prayers.

When faced with a crisis situation, people need as many prayers as possible. If you have an urgent prayer need, call Cheryl at 429-4223 or email [email protected].

NOTES FROM THE SCHOOL….. Registrations for grades PK 3-8th are still ongoing and touring can always be made by calling the school office at (845) 947-1330

The Pre-K through 1st grades presented their counting projects that celebrated the 100th Day. They presented their shelters, games, weapons and even some clothing.

Well the Parish Council meeting went well, amongst the various topics we discussed in-cluded starting a First Friday Holy Hour, which we will initiate on the next First Friday which is March 1. The time will be from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM. It was also mentioned that some parishioners would appreciate having

Stations of the Cross in the evening on Fridays in Lent, so that is also something we will begin. Now granted, Stations and First Friday will be a conflict on April 5th, so on that day, Stations of the Cross will be moved to the morning after the 9:00 Mass. This allows people who might not want to travel at night an opportunity to pray Stations at least once during Lent. Donut Sunday was also discussed. We will have our first Donut Sunday after the 9:30 Mass next Sunday. This initial event will be some-thing of a trial balloon, presuming things work out well, the next time we will roll out coffee and donuts to the 7:30 and 11:30 masses as well. Moving some meetings to the Narthex was also discussed, and as such, scripture study will now transi-tion to the Narthex beginning this week.

The Community Room was also discussed at Parish Coun-cil and we looked at some tentative renderings of the build-ing. I will be meeting with the architect again in the coming week and hopefully the planning stage will soon be com-plete. When it is finished the final rendering will be placed in the Narthex so people from the Parish can see what it looks like. At this point, it will be a large meeting room as well as a smaller meeting room so two meetings could happen at the same time. Hopefully we will soon be putting the minutes from the Parish Council meeting on the bulletin board in the Narthex for anyone who is interested in reading about the proceedings. Finally – the Adoration chapel could use some more vol-unteers. One hour a week can change your life. Please drop by the chapel and experience a bit of contemplative prayer.

Yours in Christ,

CYO BASKETBALL PLAY OFF GAMES The regular season games are beginning to wind down and play off games begin on February 16th and 17th. Come out and support our teams that are fighting for a spot in the archdiocesan championships. All home games will be played in the cozy St. Gregory Barbarigo school gymnasium. Grab a delicious bite to eat at our refreshment stand, and see some great basketball. For more information, you may contact Tom or Kyle O’Grady at [email protected].

ALTAR FLOWERS MEMORIALS Flowers on the altar today are donated by Patricia Heinemann in memory of Mary Rynne. If you would like to remember a loved one or a special intention, you may call the parish office (947-1873) to arrange for a memorial basket for a donation of $50.00. Reservation slips are available in the Narthex or the Parish Office. RENEW + REBUILD CAMPAIGN PLEDGE PAYMENTS If you made a pledge to this campaign, please remember to stay current with

the reminders that are being sent from the central office. Your campaign pledge can be honored in any combination of cash, trust, appreciated securities or property. Your gift has made it possible to address the critical needs of our parish, as well as support the greater community of the Archdiocese of New York. Thank You. Statements which you could use for your income tax will be mailed from the central office. If you have not received one, please call the rectory.

MEMORIAL CANDLES reach Catholics on a spiritual level and remain a source of inspiration and a symbol of Christ as a worthwhile expression of faith. They have always been seen as sentinels, keeping watch while a person cannot be there. By lighting a candle, people know their prayer will continue throughout the day, long after they leave the church. Our candles are designed to also serve as perpetual memorials for a specific intention which will remain lighted day and night for a whole year for a donation of $200. You may inquire at the parish office or reservation slips are in the Narthex. If you had a candle for the past year, please let us know if you would like to renew it.

THE HEATHER LEIGH COLON SCHOLARSHIP is available for 8th grade CYO basketball players that are planning on attending a catholic high school in the fall of 2019. For more information contact Barbara or Mark Colon at (914) 447-5962 or email: [email protected].

BURNING OF PALM BRACHES Where do the ashes which begin the Season of Lent come from? They come from the palm branches that were blessed and distributed during Holy Week. Because they are a “sacramental”, they must be disposed of in a proper way. There is a container in the narthex. You may leave your palm branches there, and we will burn them in anticipation of Ash Wednesday. Please do not leave palm in baggies or with rubber bands.

BOY SCOUTS AWARDS MASS Next Sunday, February 24 at the 9:30 AM Mass, we observe the 109th anniversary of the Boys Scouts of America and award emblems to those who have completed their requirements. Light of Christ recipient is Brody Lillo. What a pleasure to recognize this fine young man.

DONUT SUNDAY—Next Sunday after the 9:30 AM Mass, please stay for a donut, coffee or juice and some good conversation, in the Church narthex.

THE GOSPEL FOR NEXT WEEK….. A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke 5:27-38

Jesus said to his disciples: “To you who hear I say, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. To the person who strikes you on one cheek, offer the other one as well, and from the person who takes your cloak, do not withhold even your tunic. Give to everyone who asks of you, and from the one who takes what is yours do not demand it back. Do to others as you would have them do to you. For if you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do the same.

If you lend money to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, and get back the same amount. But rather, love your enemies and do good to them, and lend expecting nothing back; then your reward will be great and you will be children of the Most High, for he himself is kind to the ungrateful and the wicked. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.

“Stop judging and you will not be judged. Stop condemning and you will not be condemned. Forgive and you will be forgiven. Give, and gifts will be given to you; a good measure, packed together, shaken down, and overflowing, will be poured into your lap. For the measure with which you measure will in return be measured out to you.”
