SCHEDULED MASSES FOR 2022 People rightly wish to remember their loved ones’ birthdays, weddings, anniversaries of death with an an-nounced Mass. Praying for their intentions helps

our living and deceased friends with our prayers to the Lord on their behalf, and strengthens our connection with them. We know that many of our parishioners patiently wait for the Mass intention book to open each year - and it is now open for the first six months of 2022 (January-June)

SAVE THE DATE: Sunday, September 12th. We will celebrate the 11:30 Mass outside on the Mary field, then move over to the Rectory field for our picnic. Of

course, we will have great selection of food, burgers, dogs etc., music and fun for the kids as well as volley ball, can jam etc. Tickets are $5.00 per person or $15.00 per family and will be on sale after Masses in the Nar-thex as well as the Rectory during the week starting August 23rd. OFFICE OF THE CARDINAL

1011 FIRST AVENUE

NEW YORK, NEW YORK 10022

Dear friends in the Lord:

Grateful to you for your past generosity of $143,000 in the midst of last year’s pandemic, I write to you today to ask for your solici-tude again as we prepare to collect an offering on Sunday, Au-gust 9 for the Solidarity Fund for the Church in Africa. Founded on the basic principles of Saint John Paul II’s call to action in Ec-clesia in Africa, we are enabled to express love ‘in deed and in truth’ (1 John 3:18), a love that creates no borders and sets no limits to what might be accomplished together in Christ.

Africa faces the economic and social hurdles of enormous debt, epidemic, severe poverty, persecution, and political unrest. In spite of these challenges, the Church in Africa has almost tripled in size in the past 30 years.

However, it is difficult for the Church there to sustain its growth and maintain essential pastoral outreach. The Fund provides grants to finance pastoral projects including programs, schools, evangelization, and education of clergy and lay ministers. Our solidarity is necessary to help the “salt of the earth” Church in Africa realize its potential as a “light of the world.”

Your participation will assist in making a difference in the lives of our brothers and sisters in that part of the world. You can learn more at www.usccb.org/africa.

With prayerful best wishes to you and your families for a blessed summer, I am,

Faithfully in Christ,

+Timothy Michael Cardinal Dolan

Archbishop of New York

THAT MAN IS YOU! Is a meeting for men who are Catholic and helps to fortify men in the deal-

ing with the pressures and temptations of our modern culture, especially those relating to their roles as hus-bands and fathers. The program harmonizes current social and medical science with the teachings of the Church and the wisdom of the saints to develop the vision of man fully alive! This is a men’s group which has had a great impact in many parishes, and we are planning to form it here at St. Gregory’s; Men—be ready to participate! For more in-formation - see the link on the Parish website or go to: https://paradisusdei.org/that-man-is-you.

(RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS) This program is for adults 18 and older who would like to receive one or more of the follow-

ing sacraments: Baptism, Communion, Confirmation. It is for adults who may have grown up in a different religion and who would like to become Catholics and also for people who bap-tized Catholic but might need to receive First Holy Communion and or Confirmation. Our RCIA program will have introductory meetings in September and begin shortly thereafter. We are planning for the meeting to take place on Sundays in the Par-ish Center Meeting Room at 10:15 a.m. Those participating in RCIA will receive their sacraments at the Easter Vigil on April3, 2021. Perhaps you know a family member, or friend who may wish to participate in our Parish RCIA Program. If you have questions, please call the rectory at 845-947-1873.

BIBLE—Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth

Join us at Saint Gregory’s to better understand God’s word in the Bible. The Bible can be de-scribed as a collection of love letters from God

giving us the information, we need to achieve eternal salva-tion. Saint Gregory’s scripture study group wants you to join them to participate in a new study titled The Gospel of Matthew. This study addresses this book standing at the start of the New Testament. This Gospel provides a bridge from the Jewish world awaiting a Messiah to the emerging Christian world of Jesus and His followers. We start this program on Thursday, September 16 in the afternoon at 3PM in the new parish center with a second repeat session, at 7PM in the evening in the same location. Each session is independent of the others, so even if you miss a week or two, you can participate and learn a great deal. No prior experience in our study group is needed to participate. Part one will last for five weeks, and a second five-week session will complete the study of this gospel. All you need is a Bible and a pen; other materials will be provided. To learn more about this program please call Deacon John Kelly or Lucy Kelly at 845-947-2095.
