From the Pastor’s Desk 2 Over the past few months we have experienced many changes. We have journeyed through the season of Lent, seeking to find God through the works of fasting, almsgiving and penance. We are now experiencing the joy and peace of the Risen Jesus, who brings light into our world and our lives. We have and are experiencing a new way of living brought about by the Covid-19 virus, which has changed our lifestyle. The separation of people from each other, the precautions we take to make sure we don’t spread the virus to others and the fear that we may catch this virus have brought such separation from each other that it is hard to imagine how or if things will ever return to our “old” normal. The separation from Mass and the Eucharist have also changed our lives. No longer are we able to join together to experience the community of God’s people worshipping together as one. Because of the limited spaces open at Mass due to social distancing, many are unable to share in the Eucharist, the food that feeds our soul and our body, the food that makes us Jesus to one another and calls us to spread the Good News of God’s love to others. We see the change in seasons from Winter to Spring to Summer The grass and farm land have turned various shades of green as the plants grow, flowers bloom and trees budding tell us that summer has arrived and the earth once again shows its life. The cool temperatures of Spring have gone and now we face the heat and humidity of Summer. It would be nice to spend time at the pool, gather for outdoor picnics and relax with family and friends. Maybe we had planned a travel vacation which had to be cancelled. The covid-19 pandemic has changed our summer. Still God is with us in these times. Last Sunday’s reading from the prophet Elijah and Matthew’s Gospel of Jesus walking on the water in the midst of the storm tells us that no matter what problems we have, God is with us. He is with us in the silence and in the storm, reassuring us with Jesus’ words, “Do not be afraid.” Through prayer and the Sacraments, may we open our eyes and ears to his presence in our lives. Reminder: With the opening of the School year this Thurs, Aug 20th, the 5:30 PM Mass will be discontinued. The Mass time will move back to 8:00 AM so the students will be able to attend the liturgy.
