5 Project Planning and Startup with Windows® 7 Embedded5.1 General information

5.2 Initial start of the Windows® operating system after deliveryThe initial start process of the Windows® 7 Embedded operating system includes sev-eral setup screens that allow you to adjust the operating system to your requirements. You will be prompted to confirm the system time and set the user name. The conven-tional Windows® dialogs allow you to adapt the currency and date format to your region.

The setup of the operating system is completed by initially starting the MOVI-PLC®

power apps. The "Addresses" window is called up automatically. This window lists thepreset IP addresses (LAN1 and VNET). SEW-EURODRIVE recommends to adoptthese standard settings. This especially applies to the virtual network card (VNET set-tings) as it is otherwise not possible to establish a direct connection of Windows® andcontrol section. For further information refer to chapter "Using MOVI-PLC® power apps".

5.3 Switch-off and reboot behavior of the UHX71B controller5.3.1 General information

If the UHX71B controller is operated with the OMW71B /72B Windows® memory cardand the OMH71B CFast memory card, it represents a combined device. The UHX71Bcontroller comprises a control section as well as a Windows® section. In this case, theWindows® switch-off and reboot behavior is different to normal desktop PCs.

• Windows® reboot.

Windows® reboots. The control section keeps running without a reboot.

• Windows® shutdown.

Windows® and the control section are shut-down. Switch the controller's voltage sup-ply off and back on to start the system.

5.3.2 Use of an on/off button on X1You can use terminal X1 on the UHX71B controller to connect an on/off button for thecontroller. The button works like a PC on/off button.

• Press the button briefly to switch the controller on or off during operation.

• Press the button for at least 5 seconds to switch off the controller.

INFORMATION• The Windows® 7 Embedded operating system on the OMW71B/72B memory card

5MOVI-PLC® power appsProject Planning and Startup with Windows® 7 Embedded

5.7 MOVI-PLC® power appsMOVI-PLC® power apps is part of a software package on the OMW71B/72B Windows®

memory card and only on the UHX71B controller. MOVI-PLC® power apps bundles allfunctions that exceed the normal Windows® scope of functions. MOVI-PLC® powerapps are started automatically when Windows® is started as there are also system ser-vices for the operation of the Windows® section. The following chapters are to describethe most important functions.

5.7.1 Start screenThe start screen allows you to directly call up MOVITOOLS® MotionStudio and changeimportant Windows® system settings. You can perform these settings conveniently inMOVI-PLC® power apps or use the Windows® dialogs.

5.7.2 Setting the LAN and VNET addressSelecting "LAN address/VNET address" on the start screen opens the "Addresses" win-dow. The "Addresses" window is split has the following content:

• On the left side (LAN settings), you can set the name, the IP address and the subnetmask for the physical network card (LAN 1).

• On the right side (VNET settings), you can set the name, the IP address and the sub-net mask for the internal virtual network card (Windows section). If you change theVNET settings of the Windows® section, you also have to change the correspondingsettings on the control section as it is otherwise not possible to establish a connectionbetween the control section and the Windows® section.

5.7.3 Write protection setupYou have to shutdown Windows® before you switch off the supply voltage of the con-troller. Otherwise you may encounter data loss. You can use the "Write protection" func-tion to switch off the supply voltage of the controller before you shutdown Windows®. Inaddition, this function minimizes the write access to the CFast memory cards.

As long as the write protection is enabled, there is no write access to the blocked sec-tions of the CFast memory card. To make sure that Windows® programs keep workingflawlessly, the actual write accesses are routed to the main memory.

This means, for example, that a newly created text file is no longer available after a sys-tem reboot. The changes made to a file are lost as well after a system reboot. Note thatWindows® does not generate a message when you try to write on a write protected me-dium.

The "Write protection" function allows you to except certain folders or files (e.g. log files)on the hard drive from the write protection.

The "Write protection" function can only be set via MOVI-PLC® power apps. It is not pos-sible to perform the setting via Windows®.

INFORMATIONFor detailed information on how to use MOVI-PLC® power apps, refer to the onlinehelp.

INFORMATIONUse the Windows® control panel for further settings.

Reserved RAM You can set the size of the reserved memory according to your requirements. Each writeaccess of a program is routed to this reserved section.

The reserved memory should be large enough to cope with all memory accesses andsmall enough to make sure there is sufficient memory left for the correct execution ofprograms.

The currently used memory of the reserved section is displayed to allow you to correctlydetermine the exact value.

5.8 Startup and visualizationIn order to use the OMW71B/72B Windows® memory card as visualization platform, usethe HMI-Builder.PRO software that is included in the MOVITOOLS® MotionStudio engi-neering software. In addition, you require a suitable monitor, e.g. OPT71C-120 orOPT71C-150, and the ORV71C USB-Dongle to permanently enable the visualizationruntime of the HMI-Builder PRO software.

5.8.1 Configuring the Windows® section during startupDuring startup, you should activate the Windows® swap file and deactivate the "Writeprotection" menu in the MOVI-PLC® power apps. Due to the Windows® swap file, thereis more memory available for applications. Deactivating the "Write protection" menu isrequired as otherwise it is impossible to save a changed MOVITOOLS® MotionStudioproject to the hard drive.

INFORMATIONDo not use the activated "Write protection" function in combination with an activatedWindows® swap file.

6.3.2 Selecting the connection mode (online or offline)Proceed as follows to set the connection mode:

1. Select the connection mode:

• "Switch to online mode" [1] for functions (online tools) that should directly influ-ence the unit.

• "Switch to offline mode" [2] for functions (offline tools) that should influence yourproject.

2. Select the unit node.

3. Right-click to open the context menu and display the tools for configuring the unit.

INFORMATION• The "online" communication mode is NOT a response message which informs you

that you are currently connected to the unit or that your unit is ready for communi-cation. Should you require this feedback, observe chapter "Setting the cyclical ac-cessibility test" in the online help (or the manual) of MOVITOOLS® MotionStudio.

• Project management commands (such as "download" and "upload"), the onlineunit status, and the "unit scan" work independently of the set connection mode.

6 Communication via EthernetProject Planning and Startup with MOVITOOLS® MotionStudio

6.4 Communication via Ethernet6.4.1 Direct communicationOverview The figure shows the network with direct communication using Ethernet:

Function Parameter requests from MOVITOOLS® MotionStudio are transferred to a switch [3] viaEthernet [2] from a PC [1] using the Ethernet TCP/IP interface.

The switch [3] then directly passes on the parameter requests to the Ethernet interfaceof the units [4].

6.4.2 Address EditorOverview The Address Editor is a freeware tool offered by SEW-EURODRIVE GmbH & Co KG.

It is available once the "MOVITOOLS® MotionStudio" engineering software is installed. However, it is used separately.

You can use the Address Editor to establish a communication for your units via Ethernetand to address the units.

If you use a patch cable to connect the Ethernet interface of your engineering PC to theEthernet, the Address Editor detects all Ethernet nodes in the connected networksegment (local network).

Unlike with "MOVITOOLS® MotionStudio", you will not have to adjust the IP address ofthe engineering PC to the local network.

This means the Address Editor is a useful addition to "MOVITOOLS® MotionStudio".

Proceed as follows if you have added other Ethernet nodes to an existing network:

• Start the Address Editor
