The original school opened in 1922. In 1989, a new school was built on the school yard and the old building was then demolished. The school has approximately 200 students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 5. We have a diverse community comprised of students from 16 different countries and speaking 19 different languages. Seventh Street enjoys an excellent partnership with The Lakeshore Community Childcare Centre (LCCC), which offers an excellent before and after school program as well as daycare services for children 18 months and older. Academic Focus This Year • Improving literacy and numeracy programs (Professional Learning Communities) • Developing early intervention for literacy programs and serving our most needy students • Supporting English as a Second Language (ELL) students through support of FOS ELL • Increasing our math resources as part of our Mathematics initiative • Implementation of The Daily 5 & 6+1 Writing Strategies • Use of SMART BOARD technology to support student learning • Use of Netbooks/Playbooks • PLC (Professional Learning Communities) Teacher lead • Dovetailing STEM initiatives (Science/Technology/Engineering/Math) with Inquiry Based Learning.

Parent and Community Engagement

• Seventh Street has a very active and supportive SchoolAdvisory Council which meets every other month with the Principaland parent community to discuss activities and events at SeventhStreet.• Parents support the students by attending the monthly assemblies,helping out in the classrooms, volunteering on field trips and muchmore.• School Advisory Council enriches our educational communitythrough their fundraising efforts, which provides more resources forthe school and enables a number of special programs to enhanceour learning environment.• SAC hosts many functions such as:       • Family Dance Parties       • Family Pizza & Movie Nights       • Family Skate Night       • PRO Grant Parent Events    School Advisory Councils are an excellent way for you to getinvolved and support your child's education.
