School Motto Reliability” FROM THE PRINCIPAL: Cyber Safety Thanks to all the parents and staff that attended the Cyber Safety workshop last week. I learnt a few things to try with my teenage children in terms of keeping them safe in an online environment so it was well worth the effort. The children also had the ‘be cyber safe’ message repeated during their workshops. The Office of the eSafety Commissioner is the website to use for the reporting of illegal content https://esafety.gov.au/. The Cyber Savvy website is also a good one for children and families to check out in regards to using the Internet and social media safely. The families page in particular will be useful for parents of children entering the teenage years. https://cybersavvy.telethonkids.org.au/ Student Assembly Well done to Mr Liddle and the Room 6 children, their assembly ‘Keep Calm and Carry On’ was both informative and very humorous. I certainly learnt something that I did not know before in regards to the origin of the saying. Congratulations to the Merit Certificate, Reliability and Aussie of the Month award winners. Well done also to the Student Councillors for their first assembly, they spoke very articulately and without appearing to have any nerves which I am sure they must have had. Sponsorship/Donations A big thankyou to the IGA Supermarket (Community Chest program) and to the Bendigo Bank (School Banking program) for their donations to the school and P&C at the assembly. Their support is greatly appreciated and is a reflection of the use that the Mount Tarcoola community has of their businesses. National Day of Action Against Bullying Mount Tarcoola Primary School is again taking part in the 2019 National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence (NDA) which is on this Friday. This year there is a new theme: Bullying. No Way! Take action every day. Each class is conducting several activities across the course of the day around the theme. We are also linking the anti-bullying message with Harmony Day which is about inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians, regardless of cultural or linguistic background, united by a set of core Australian values. More information can be sourced from the following websites. https:// bullyingnoway.gov.au/ and https://www.harmony.gov.au/ School Council The School Council is due to meet later this term. However we are still short a parent representative and an Aboriginal parent representative. If anyone is interested in filling one of these positions please contact the front office for a nomination form. The council is a great opportunity to participate in and learn more about the school and how it operates. The council meets once a term and meetings are generally no longer than 90 minutes with most taking much less than that. Continued over …....

“Reliability”

FROM THE PRINCIPAL:

Cyber Safety Thanks to all the parents and staff that attended the Cyber Safety workshop last week. Student Assembly

Well done to Mr Liddle and the Room 6 children, their assembly ‘Keep Calm and Carry On’ was both informative and very humorous.

More information can be sourced from the following websites. https://bullyingnoway.gov.au/ and https://www.harmony.gov.au/

School Council The School Council is due to meet later this term. However we are still short a parent representative and an Aboriginal parent representative. If anyone is interested in filling one of these positions please contact the front office for a nomination form. The council is a great opportunity to participate in and learn more about the school and how it operates. AIEO

We are currently advertising for a new AIEO (Aboriginal & Islander Education Officer). This has come about due to the resignation of Shane Edwards who previously held the position. The position is for 3 days a week and we are looking for someone who is able to work with our Aboriginal parent community, the wider Mount Tarcoola community, children and the school in improving outcomes for our Indigenous children. The position can be applied for through the following web link: https://search.jobs.wa.gov.au/page.php?pageID=160&windowUID=0&AdvertID=234084

Cricket Nets Due to the vandalism that occurred last year to the cricket nets and ongoing concerns regarding them they are being removed and the area fenced appropriately. As part of the fencing project we are also fencing off and gating some of the other entrances to the northern end of the school. The main reasons for this are to put a physical barrier between the school and people walking through the school grounds and to encourage foot traffic to the top and bottom of the carpark opposite the basketball courts. This will direct children away from walking/running through the car park and encourage them to use the footpaths when leaving and entering the school.

CHAPLAIN’S CHAT

Growing With Gratitude is a programme being used in the school. Over the next few weeks I would like to chat about the topic of gratitude.

The Importance of Gratitude Gratitude in the most basic terms is being thankful and appreciative of the good things you have. A sense of gratitude can benefit children (and adults) in a variety of ways: decreases stress less time is spent comparing him or herself with others reduces feelings of envy increases empathy cultivates a sense of belonging in classrooms and community

Here are some questions you can ask to get your kids talking…

#1. What is the best thing that happened at school today?

#2. How did somebody help you today?

#3. Tell me one thing you discovered today?

#4. When were you the happiest today?

#5. Where did you play the most at recess?

#6. Who would you like to play with tomorrow that you haven't played with before?

#7. What did you do for someone that was kind?

#8. Who did you sit next to in class?

#9. How would you describe your teacher using three words?

#10. What are you most looking forward to doing tomorrow at school?

P&C AGM MONDAY 25th MARCH

The P&C AGM will be held in the Staffroom on Monday 25th March starting at 7.00pm. All Parents are welcome to attend. We have a fantastic P&C but some positions will be vacated as Parents have left the school. We meet twice a term in Weeks 3 and 8. Many hands make light work.

Mount Tarcoola Students and staff will be participating in the National Day of Action against Bullying and

Violence. Classes will be doing a variety of activities to display in our undercover area. Students are asked to wear BLUE this Friday 15th March to recognise the importance of this day and to support our school in the action
