EARLY STAGE ONE NEWS

It is wonderful to visit each Kindergarten classroom and see every single child engaged in their

classroom learning experiences.

In Kindergarten we explicitly teach and encourage the school values of being Safe, Responsible

and Respectful by

*Keeping our hands and feet to ourselves

* Following all teacher’s instructions

*Using kind words to others

*No rough play

EASTER HAT PARADE

Start creating Easter Hats as the Samuel Terry Easter Hat Parade will be happening on Friday 12th

April!

A note will be sent home in the next week with more information about this exciting event!

CLASSROOM LEARNING

We are focussing on the following concepts in Kindergarten this fortnight

PHONEMIC AWARENESS – ‘R’ ‘O’ ‘G’

SIGHT WORDS-

Little, to, hungry, big, no

And, for, looked, you

MATHS CONCEPT – Position, length

NEWS TOPIC – ‘My favourite toy ‘

‘My favourite place to go.’

HOMEWORK, HOME READING, SIGHT WORDS

Please revise your child’s sight words and read with your children at least every other night.

Completing these homework tasks consolidate learning that occurs in the classroom.

PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS

Parent teacher interviews are being held on Tuesday 26th March.

Please speak to your child’s teacher if you have not already scheduled in a time. Please note that

interviews are scheduled for 10 minute allocations.

UNSUPERVISED SCREEN TIME

In recent weeks, the use of inappropriate, violent language has been concerning – all cases of this

language was based around the use of technology and viewing inappropriate clips and programs

on websites such as You Tube.

Some hints and tips that have been collated by the Australian Parent Council to assist in the moni-

toring of children’s use of technology is as follows; • Install parental controls so what children are accessing is appropriate

• Only use age-appropriate sites with high learning potential and not games.

• Bookmark favourite sites you have introduced your child to.

• Sit with children so you can explain how you are navigating and what they seeing.

• Always have the device in an area where you are able to see what they are doing

• Put a time limit on your sessions ad follow through with those time limits.

• Avoid just-before-bed computer time as it can be stimulating and interrupt sleep.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

Stage 1 News

Parent- Teacher Interviews: Interviews will be held next Tuesday, March 26th. If you haven’t already booked a

timeslot in with your child’s teacher, please ensure you do. If for any reason you cannot attend on this day, please

liaise with your child’s teacher to arrange a mutually convenient alternate day/time.

School Uniform: As the weather is starting to cool we ask that

all items of uniforms, such as jackets and jumpers, are clearly

labelled with the student’s name. This ensure prompt return of

student’s property. Generally speaking jewellery should not be

worn with our school uniform. If the children have pierced ears,

small studs are the safest earrings to wear. If the girls choose to

wear bows in their hair we ask that these be in school colours.

Thank you to all the families who have already paid for the software package. The programs are an integral part

of our class programs and great use at home. They also form part of the homework for each stage each week. It

would be greatly appreciated if you could pay for this as soon as possible.

Easter: The K-2 Easter Hat Parade will be held on Friday 12th

April (Week 11). More details are to follow in the coming

weeks. The Easter Service, which has been organised by the

scripture teachers, will be held for Years 1- 6 on Thursday

11th April (Week 11).

Valuable Items and small toys– The children are discouraged from bringing items of value to school as these

items may get broken or lost causing distress.

Penrith City Children’s Choir 2019 Activities

Project I Singing Day

Sunday 17 March, 3.00pm – 5.30pm

Join us for an exuberant afternoon of song. The hilarious ‘Out beyond the black stump’ where ‘the moz-

zies roam in herds’ is by Australian composer Stephen Leek. There’s a rollicking arrangement of Ameri-

can folk tunes in ‘Charlotte Town’. Plus, the energetic song and dance from the Torres Strait ‘Sesere

eeye’. We develop vocal technique, musicianship and part-singing skills in an encouraging and joyful

learning environment supported by experienced adult mentors. A great introductory ‘taster’ for new mem-

bers. Friends and family are invited to attend an informal performance at the end of the workshop.

Project II ‘Wai Bamba’

Sundays 5 and 19 May, 3.00 – 5.00pm

A chance to sing and play an array of percussion instruments kindly donated to Penrith City Children’s

Choir by music teacher and chorister Christine Tapsell-Timbs. We will explore African rhythms in the cel-

ebratory song ‘Wai Bamba’, build an atmospheric soundscape to the delicate Japanese folksong

‘Sakura’, then sway to the West Indian lilt of ‘Tinga Layo’. No instrumental experience necessary.

Friends and family are invited to attend an informal performance at the end of the final workshop.

Project III Ancient Echoes

Sundays 1, 15 and 22 September, 3.00 – 5.00pm with a performance at

4.00pm on the final workshop with special guests The February Consort.

A very special project culminating in a joint performance with the recorder ensemble ‘The February Con-

sort’. Connecting to times long past is the magical ‘Myoon-myoon’ by Stephen Leek, the mysterious

‘Lady dressed in white’ by Lin Marsh and the powerful spiritual ‘Joshua fought the battle’ for choir and

recorders.

Project IV The Family Christmas Concert

Workshops Sundays 10 and 24 November, 3.00 – 5.00pm

Combined rehearsals Wednesday 27 and Friday 29 November, 7.30pm – to be advised

PUBLIC CONCERT Sunday 1 December, 3.00pm with Penrith City Choir, Penrith Symphony Or-

chestra and Penrith Youth Orchestra at The Joan.

A thrilling opportunity to sing with Penrith Symphony Orchestra in the best concert of the festive season.

The children’s choir will feature in that iconic song ‘Walking in the air’ with harp accompaniment. Other

performers include Penrith City Choir and Penrith Youth Orchestra plus local singing sensation Brittanie

Shipway. With a special guest from the North Pole rumoured to make an appearance, this will be fun for

the whole family.
