Week 2, Term 4
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
I encourage the whole school community to support the ‘Fiver for a Farmer’ fundraising event being held on November 7. Students are allowed to wear mufti for the day and to come to school dressed as a farmer. Donations can be paid online via the school website or to your child’s class teacher on the day.
Liven’ Deadly Showcase
It was great to see our Aboriginal students showcasing the cultural education that they have been receiving as part of the ‘Liven’ Deadly’ program with Jie Pittman at the end of Term 3. Not only did the students share their cultural knowledge, they invited non-Aboriginal students to showcase some of their skills in a gesture of inclusivity and mutual respect. Congratulations to all involved.
Sporting Success
Congratulations to our boys touch team for qualifying for the state final which will be held at Parramatta next Monday. To reach the final 8 for all of New South Wales is a tremendous achievement. Congratulations also to the senior boys relay team who have qualified for the state athletics carnival and to Jhett for his individual qualification in the 100m and 200m events. – an amazing achievement! Further details and photos are in Mr Sloane’s sports report.

Term 4 Project and Presentation
This week a note went home regarding the project Stage 1 is doing this
term as part of their homework. The project is an integral part of the ge-
ography work the children are completing on the features of places.
Please see your child’s teacher if you have a question regarding this.
The project is due on Monday 12th November.
FUN DAY
The children have started to bring in money to buy their tokens for the Year 6 Fund Day on 13th Novem-
ber. Each token costs 50c. The money must be given to their class teacher who will record the amount
and give the child tokens on their Fun Day Card. Each year the children look forward to this day with great
excitement.
SWIM SCHOOL
On Monday, Year 2 children received notes about the Swim School, which is on in week 7 and 8. There
are limited places so it is advisable to return the forms as soon as possible if you want your child to attend.
K-2 Assembly
The next assembly is on Monday 12th November at 12:20pm.
Hats and Water
As the weather heats up it is essential that the children come prepared each day with a bottle of water and
their hats. The children are frequently reminded, of the importance of having these with them each day.
A Fiver For A Farmer
Stage 1 is looking forward to coming dressed as a farmer for
this fundraising event. There has been discussion in the classes
about drought and the impact this has on the lives of many peo-
ple. Donations can be paid online via the school website or to
your child’s class teacher on the day.

chosen an activity that they would like to run as part of Fun Day. Students will be
given some time to work with their groups in preparation for the day. Some of the
activities that students will run on the day include; face painting, spider drinks,
obstacle course, tattoos, coloured hairspray, sponge throwing, carnival games, footy
passing, haunted house, nail painting and many more.
We are now asking for donations of prizes and other items needed for the day. Some
items include soft drinks, plastic cups, straws, lollies, coloured hair spray, face paint
and face painting equipment and tattoos to name a few. Please note Year 6 students
are responsible for ensuring all items needed for their activity are ready prior to the day. All token money
raised from Year 6 Fun Day will go towards the Year 6 Farewell and end of year celebrations.
C.A.R.E.S:
Year 5 students will this term be given the opportunity to take part in the C.A.R.E.S road safety program.
C.A.R.E.S. is a total road safety education program created to assist in the reduction of
risk, injury and death for young road users. This program links closely with our Term 4
PDHPE unit on safety. More information including dates and cost information for this
excursion will be provided in the coming weeks. We encourage all Year 5 students to
take part in this very valuable road safety education program.
Gold awards:
Students are reminded that there is only one assembly left for 2018, Monday 12th November (Week 5).
This assembly will be the last opportunity for students to be presented with gold awards at assembly for
the year. Students are also reminded that participation awards are not able to be counted towards gold
awards. Awards of merit, achievement or other significant awards are accepted and must display the
Samuel Terry Public School logo. For clarification please see Mrs Hudson.
School public speaking competition:
The school final for the public speaking competition will be held on Tuesday 23rd October at 11.30am in
the school hall. Congratulations to the Stage 3 representatives from each class who will present their
speeches in front of Years 3-6 at this final. We wish all Stage 3 students the best of luck and look
forward to hearing these wonderful speeches.

boys and white socks for girls. It has been noticed that some students are not wearing the correct socks

STAGE 3 NEWS!
Year 6 Farewell/Graduation ceremony:
As we approach the end of the year, teachers and students are starting to get excited about all the
wonderful end of year celebrations that Year 6 take part in. The Year 6 graduation ceremony will take
place on Monday 17th December in the school hall. This is a formal ceremony where students will be
recognised for the completion of their primary school education. Parents are invited to attend this
ceremony and celebrate with their children.
The Year 6 farewell will be held on the Monday night and the venue for this year’s farewell is Penrith
Paceway. All students have been given a note outlining the details for this night. Please ensure all
permission/RSVP slips are completed and returned to classroom teachers by Monday 5th November.
This will assist us to give final numbers and any dietary requirements to the venue.
Year 6 DVD:
One of the traditions at Samuel Terry is the development of a Year 6 DVD where we get to share how
much our Year 6 students have grown and changed during their time at primary school. We are
therefore asking each student to provide a photo of themselves in Kindergarten (preferably their school
portrait) to form part of this DVD. Students may also provide any other photos that are relevant to their
time in primary school e.g. book character parade, friendship photos, carnival photos, camp photos,
which may also be used (limit 5 per student including the kindergarten portrait). All photos must be
submitted electronically no later than Monday 5th November (Week 5).
Photos can be emailed to Mrs Hudson at [email protected] or can be given to Mrs
Hudson on a USB stick that is labelled with the child’s name and class. We thank you for your
cooperation and look forward to the many exciting end of year events coming up for Year 6.
Year 6 overnight excursion 2018:
Year 6 students from Samuel Terry have recently undertaken an educational tour of the national capital.
Students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on
Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy.
The Australian government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the
national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of
the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding of $20 per student under the Parliament
and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school
upon completion of the excursion.
All students who attended this overnight excursion had a wonderful time, demonstrated excellent
behaviour and represented Samuel Terry Public School with pride. Following, some students have
recounted their favourite experiences from the excursion:

The highlight of camp for me was Questacon because you got to see different areas and different
things and the free fall slide. It took me 3 attempts to do it and I was very proud of myself—Ellie

My favourite part of Year 6 camp was the Australian Institute of Sport because we got to have a look
at where the gymnastics and volleyball players train. I got a new soccer ball, now I have 5 soccer
balls—Annaliese 6S
One of my favourite things we did at Year 6 camp was when we had movie night because we just
hung out with our friends and ate food. I also like the Institute of Sport, Telstra Tower and the
