Dear Friends in Christ,

Peace and Health to each and everyone of you!

“It was the best of times; it was the worst of times.” Those were the opening words of Charles Dickens’ novel “A Tale of Two Cities. I have used that phrase for two Holy Thursday homilies in my priestly ministry. I refer to my ordination year, as NOT the best of times, or the worst of times. Then I end the homily by saying that my priesthood is a “ far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done.” A little dramatic, which I will spare you this year from hearing.

That opening phrase resonates well with me, especially the second part. This first quarter of the year is turning out to be the worst of times. Contagion and disease, fear and worry, uncertainty and unease are spoken and muted catch words in this age of Corona Virus. I could write on and on about what is bewildering me now, but still, it does not make sense. It all seems surreal.

I miss you all.

I miss your presence in our Churches I miss your participation at Mass. I miss your voices. I just miss you being there, as part of our congregation, and as part of our parish family.

It took a lot of adjustment celebrating Masses without a congregation. I am just thankful to our Religious Filippini Sisters for their presence. At least, there is a response to every prayer I say. I am not just talking to myself.

Just imagine if it were just me—The Lord be with me. Response: And also with me. Lift up my heart. Response: I lift them up to the Lord. Let me give thanks to the Lord, my God. Response: It is right and just. This third response is the only one that makes sense.

Our Sisters are at our daily Masses and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. We maintain our physical distance and we remain in front of our Blessed Lord till 12 noon, praying the 10 and 11 AM Rosary. I have also phone patched some of parish families for the rosaries. I love to hear the voices of our children saying their prayers with their parents. This is what makes us one. This is what makes our quarantined lives now more fulfilling and gratifying.

As we begin the holiest of all weeks in the church’s calendar, please make an effort to be one with us in prayer. Unite with our Blessed Lord in His Passion, Death and Resurrection. Use this extra time to realize What and Who really matters in our Christian journey together.

A prayer: May our Holy Week this year usher in the best of times, that we hope to come in weeks ahead. Amen.

Sincerely yours in Jesus, the Christ, Fr. PJ

Here’s One Positive Encouragement

Written by a fellow parishioner

Here we are, it is Palm Sunday, the Sunday that, for centuries, we have celebrated Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem with our fellow Chris ans at mass. What are you doing today on Palm Sunday with no church building to celebrate as you usually would? How about celebra ng this Palm Sunday with your own triumphant celebra on? You're going to resolve if you have not already, that this last month of lifestyle changes will not get you down or upset you. Know that our worldwide situa on will improve. Put your trust in God that food supplies, your source of income, your bills will be paid, and this health problem will be controlled. We have gone through two genera ons without a significant war or worldwide catastrophe. Why should we have not had to endure a catastrophic problem as others have in the past? We each can be triumphant in our daily lives if we have a posi ve a tude and decide today that we will overcome the current situa on and triumphantly enter our Jerusalem of peace and tranquility each in our own way. Con nue to uphold our Catholic beliefs that Jesus is the Savior of the world (here to defeat evil), show kindness and love for each other, pray to Jesus, asking for his help and the ul mate outcome will be posi ve for all.
