Dear Friends in Christ, Peace and Joy to you and your family! There are so many kinds of fathers in the world. To name a few, there are natural fathers, single fathers, divorced fathers, widowed fathers and spiritual fathers. I have been first called Father on July 7 of 1990, 30 years ago. That was when I was ordained a priest. My fatherhood is far from ordinary. Since priests are married to the Church, then their wife/common and spiritual partner/spouse is the mys cal body of Christ. (Our bishop is an in-law, maybe?, if we have to pursue this analogy) We, priests, are fathers to so many children. This is also where the gi of voca on comes to the fore because fathers are fathers in rela on to their children. There are five sacraments in which our fatherhood, as priests, is pronounced and punctuated. Through the Sacrament of Bap sm, we have ushered in new members of our Church. Through the Sacrament of Reconcilia on, we have welcomed those who have lost their path. Through the Sacrament of the Eucharist, we were charged to make our God visible and real in this earth. Through the Sacrament of Marriage, we united those who willed to spend their years together. And through the Sacrament of the Anoin ng of the Sick, we have shared health and wellness to those who are feeble and weak. In celebra ng Father’s Day this weekend, I am also encouraged and inspired by what Jesus said to the Twelve Disciples in the Gospel—”Fear no one.” And to further calm us and our worries, especially as we s ll traverse this pandemic crisis, Jesus says to us, “You are worth more than many sparrows,” and in another verse, “Even all the hairs of your head are counted.” (With apologies to those whose hairs are long gone and departed). Decision! Decision! DECISIONS !!!! Our whole life is made up of decisions. Even just reading this H.O.P.E. is either a conscious or unconscious decision you have made. Do you read H.O.P.E. searching for gramma cal or punctua on errors, searching for words of enlightenment, hoping this week you will figure out why things are wri en in this message the way they are wri en? H.O.P.E. is wri en specifically to have you think!! That is correct, to THINK! Wri en to be er understand your reason for living, your interpersonal rela onship with your surroundings, your interac ons with others, your religion, and most importantly your interac on with The Blessed Trinity.

Why is it when it comes to making decisions or having a problem that we feel needs an answer, we ask others for their opinion? The word Opinion as a noun is “a view or judgement formed about something not necessarily based on a fact or knowledge”. Based on the defini on of opinion, from whom should we be asking help in order to assist us with those difficult decisions? Well, here is what I believe. We each have the inner knowledge to answer our own ques ons and solve our problems through the gi s of free will and through prayer to any member of the Blessed Trinity, our Lady or any Saints we feel close to.

It is hoped that you have used these last couple of months and the months to come to help you realize what is important in life and in death. Only you can make the correct decisions. Yes, decisions through posi ve choices, having to do with your reason for being, and your interac on with God. Free will and posi ve decisions equal happiness here on earth.
