Year End Tax Statements

A Christmas Message from our Pastor

It will soon be that time of year again. We are beginning to take requests for Year End Tax Statements. You may call the office at 610-932-5040 ext 1 or email: [email protected]. Please include the following information in your email or voice message: Name / Address / phone # / do you prefer an email copy of hard copy via US Mail? Statements will begin going out mid January to allow for all 2017 donations to be posted.

. Dear Parishioners and Visitors, Today and for 12 Days we celebrate the Feast of the Nativity of Our Lord: The Birth of Jesus, Son of God and Son of Mary. I think of three simple questions this Christmas. (1) What is our hope for Christ-mas? (2) What gift will I bring to Jesus? (3) Will I make room for Jesus? My hope in contemplating the mystery of our God who became man (the Word became flesh) in silence, humility, simplicity, poverty and purity in Bethlehem and out of His lavish love for us will be the anchor of my life each day. God’s love for us is so great, that He assumed our nature, so as to save us from sin and death and give us His Divine Life. What a gift offered. Along with the tradition of gift giving to others, I wonder what gift I could possibly give to Jesus who has everything. Then I recall the words ‘I thirst’! Jesus thirsts for our hearts, our faith, and our love. Jesus thirsts for our surrender of our will and our lives in order to bestow His healing love and mercy on us throughout the year. Jesus wants the gift of relationship. Lastly, I realize the inn of my life is my heart, for our hearts were made to hold God. I think of how I can make room for Christ, through regular prayer, worship, and service throughout the year so I can remain spiritually aware of Christ in all the times and seasons of my life. Christ’s vision has eternal significance and He wants to give Himself fully to us, now and unto eternal life. As we gather in prayer, let us remember that the Incarnation continues for us at every Mass, in the mys-tery of the Eucharist –Jesus truly and really fully present – to us, and who keeps us safe unto eternal life. Ordinary Bread and Wine, becomes the Body and Blood of Christ – the New Bethlehem. He who rested in a manger, now rests in our entire being, as we receive Him in the awesome gift of the Mass. This is Christmas Hope and Peace throughout the year. Have a Blessed Christmas and New Year, Father Mike

Sacred Heart School News

Pennsylvania Senate Bill 2 As it stands, the Pennsylvania Senate Education Committee is currently considering Senate Bill 2 (SB2), which is also known as the Education Savings Account plan. SB2 would help protect the most vulnerable children among us by focusing the savings ac-counts on the lowest-performing school districts in the Commonwealth. Specifically, SB2 would create state-funded, flexible spending accounts for individual students. Parents could use the funds to pay for Department of Education-approved educational expenses such as non-public school tui-tion, higher education tuition, textbooks, curriculum, testing and industry certifications. Unused funds would roll over from one year to the next, and unspent ESA dollars could even be used to pay for college. This is a plan to empower children with educational opportunity, especially those who currently attend the lowest-performing public schools, those is the bottom 15 percentile, in the Commonwealth. You can contact your elected official to voice support for SB2 at this link: https://www.pacatholic.org/resources/voter-voice/?vvsrc=%2fCampaigns%2f54999%2fRespond

Senate Tax Reform Bill, College Savings Plan 529 (United States House-Senate Conference Committee) The tax reform bills passed separately by the House and Senate will go to conference to reconcile differences between the two before a final law is passed. There are some critical provisions that are of importance to members of Catholic and other private school communities, which are outlined in the bullet points below.

Expansion of Section 529 savings accounts to cover elementary and secondary school expenses, as provided in the House version of the bill. Comprehensive 529 accounts would provide parents some practical assistance in saving for the criti-cal years of their children’s education.

Retention of Section 117(d), as provided in the Senate version of the bill. This section allows religious and independent ele-mentary and secondary schools to offer tax-free tuition to the children of teachers and other staff. It helps schools attract high-quality employees to settings that are favorable to parents and children.

Retention of Section 127(a), as provided in the Senate version of the bill. This section allows schools to cover up to $5,250 annually in tax-free educational expenses for employees, another attraction in recruiting qualified staff. It is also vitally important to certain innovative private school communities that have work-study programs in which low-income students receive tax-free compensation.

You can contact your elected officials to voice support for the expansion of the College Savings Plan 529 at this address: http://action.capenet.org/ctas/urge-congress-to-include-key-provisions-in-tax-reform

Legislative Action Alert from the Office of Catholic Education

Our 6th grade class making Jesse Trees.

The Jesse tree helps us connect the custom of decorating Christmas trees to the events leading to Jesus’ birth. The Jesse tree is named from Isaiah 11:1: “A shoot shall come out of the stock of Jesse, and a branch shall grow out of his roots.” Jesse was the father of King David. We adorn a Jesse tree with illustrated ornaments that represent the

people, prophesies, and events leading up to the birth of Jesus. The ornaments of the Jesse tree tell the story of God in the Old Testament, connecting the Advent season with the faithfulness of God across four thousand years of

history. The staff and students of Sacred Heart School wish you a wonderful Christmas.
