It can be given by an individual or group to an individual or group to express joy, sorrow or best wishes, often in commemoration of a special occasion.

Wanted – Pictures for the Commemorative Book and Historic Memorabilia for the Centennial Celebration

The Centennial Committee is reaching out to past and present parishioners of Sacred Heart Church to provide photographs that were taken between the years of 1915-1984 along with pictures dating from 1994 to present that depict Sacred Heart Church events that took place at either the old Sacred Heart Church or the current Sacred Heart Church. The pictures will be scanned for the purpose of incorporating them into the history of the church for a centennial book that will be made available after the close of the centennial year in 2016. Pictures may also be used for display purposes throughout the celebration. We will need your permission to use the pictures that will be featured in the commemorative book. Pictures may be dropped off at the Welcome Desk or the parish office to attention of Maddie Sapp. Please supply your contact information so we may return them to you after they have been scanned. Sacred Heart School News

Twenty students participated in the FIRST LEGO League (FLL) club at Sacred Heart this school year. The students were led on a weekly basis by parent volunteer coaches and assistant coaches in using problem solving, critical thinking, and imagination to overcome a series of challenges provided. This

involved the use of LEGO, Jr Robotics Kit, LEGO Mindstorms EV3, and computers, as well as, traditional techniques such as coach facilitated and independent

discussions, whiteboard level analysis, and take home creative assignments.

Upcoming Events

Monday, April 20th– Pre K, K and 1st Grade Conferences Friday, April 24th- Senior Prom at Ware

Friday, May 1- 6th grade School Liturgy and May Crowning Thursday, May 7th- Spring Show

Friday, May 8th- Energized for Education and Family Picnic Friday, May 15th– Golf Tournament

We are accepting registration for the 2015-16 school year. Please contact the office to schedule a tour.

Eight 2nd and 3rd grade students used the LEGO kits to explore creativity and teamwork. They focused on the LEGO Think Tank challenge, which was

this year’s theme. The Think Tank challenge required them to explore places to learn and tools they used to learn. This beginning introduction to FIRST

gives exposure to different ways to learn, to the engineering design process, and to simple machines. As the final result, the team works together to

combine what they learned in order to demonstrate their interpretation of the challenge. The final build must meet specifications including the use of a

motorized component in the LEGO model and presentation.

Twelve 4th and 7th grade students were introduced to the concept of building a robot to perform autonomous tasks. Initial meetings consisted of discussions on

engineering principals and exploration of Robotics Kits and WeDo software to learn about individual simple machines and basic programming concepts. This resulted in

several simple LEGO-based structures that incorporated motors and sensors including an alligator that snapped its jaws when something was put in its mouth. Students then moved on to using the full LEGO Mindstorms kit to build a more sophisticated robot. In this portion of the season, the students did everything

from physically assemble a robot to program it to perform autonomous operations with the Mindstorms EV3 on-board controls and the Mindstorms EV3 & PC software. Specifically they learned how to create a robot to respond to

environmental stimuli to meet predefined goals using sensors for gyro, color, touch, and ultrasonic inputs.

Tickets are on sale now for the 2014-2015 SHS CYO Banquet. The CYO Banquet is open to all 5th-8th grade athletes and younger CYO athletes who participated in Cross Country and Track and Field. When: Saturday, May 9, 2015, 6:00-9:00 PM Where: Chester County Technical College High School, 280 Pennocks Bridge Road, West Grove, PA Cost: $40.00 per family (parent(s) and sibling(s) and athlete(s)) OR $15.00 (athlete only). Tickets will be available after weekend Masses and in the School's Front Office or contact Lisa Kelly at [email protected] or [email protected]

What do you do with old worn and torn American Flags? Boy Scouts from Troop 13 in Oxford will be at Sacred Heart on April 24 and 25 after all Masses to collect old and worn American Flags so they can be retired correctly with honor and dignity. They will be retired at a community ceremony on Flag Day, June 14th at 2:00 pm. Please bring your old and worn flags to church for the Scouts to collect. Please contact Garland Hamilton at 610-932-9992 with any questions. This event will support his Eagle Scout Service Project.

The March for Marriage

2015 marks the third annual March for Marriage and this is the most critical march ever. It is our last, best opportunity to reach the U.S. Supreme Court before they decide whether marriage as it has existed throughout our history is unconstitutional.

The Archdiocese of Philadelphia Office for Life and Family is sending a bus from the counties of the Archdiocese to attend the Marriage March in Washington, D.C.

The day begins at 11:30 am and concludes at 2:00 pm. Archdiocesan buses will aim to arrive at 11 :00 am for the rally.

A seat on a bus costs $15 per person. To reserve seats on a bus, please contact the bus captain directly. Mail your payment to the parish listed below in an envelope marked “Attn: March for Marriage”. Checks should be made out to the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Seating is limited, reserve your seats soon!
