    The compact, space-saving

    design and lightweight

    construction make the DSM

    series of rotary actuators

    ideal for tight-space, robotic

    applications.

    The low-friction piston vane

    design transfers force directly

    from the vane to the splined

    output shaft, providing fast,

    smooth acceleration, even force,

    and zero backlash. Optional

    shock absorbers can be

    mounted directly to the actuator

    on one or two ends to further

    reduce bounce effect. High

    torque output up to 176 lb-in

    (20 Nm) is comparable to rack-

    and-pinion designs.

    The polyurethane vane and

    sealing system together with

    precision-molded housing

    assures maximum protection

    against leakage, providing

    long-life, trouble-free operation.

    Available with keyed shaft

    (DSM) or with integral rod

    flange (DSM-FW).

    Type DSM-6 to DSM-10 Designed for fast

    and simple adjustment

    Adjustment

    Apply pressure to one side of

    the drive module and move to

    the sensor and sensor holder

    until the LED lights up (the

    sensor switch), the screw in

    the sensor holder can then

    be tightened.

    The drive module is then

    moved to the opposite end

    position, the second sensor

    holder is shifted until the

    LED lights up, the screw in

    the sensor holder can then

    be tightened.

    The adjustment is now

    complete, and the drive

    module is ready for use.

    Reference:

    If a rotary drive with

    contactless sensing is to

    be attached to a ferritic

    component, the diagrams

    opposite should be observed.

    This is to ensure reliable

    switching of the sensors.

    A rotary module DSM-25-270-P

    is to be used to rotate a gripper

    and mass through 180 in 0.4 s.

    The mass moment of inertia of

    the gripper and mass is 4.5 x

    104 kgm2.

    Question:

    Is the value for the mass

    moment of inertia still

    permissible?

    Answer:

    The graph on page 20 indicates

    that the permissible mass

    moment of inertia for an angle

    of rotation of 180 is 6.5 x 104

    kgm2. This means that the

    rotary module can be used

    without flow control valves.

    If the permissible mass

    moment of inertia were to be

    exceeded in this example, it

    would be necessary to reduce

    the angular velocity by means

    of flow control valves or fit the

    DSM-25 with a shock absorber.

    Note:

    In the diagrams, the rotation

    time up to impact on the stop

    levers is specified on the shock

    absorbers for variants

    CL/CR/CC.

    To obtain the total rotation

    time, it is necessary to add the

    specified cushioning time of

    the shock absorber.

    Rotary actuators Type DSM-6

    to 10 are double acting vane-

    type cylinders. End position

    cushioning is achieved via

    flexible cushioning plates on

    the rotation vane. These

    actuators are available in two

    variants with or without

    sensing. Contactless sensors

    must be ordered separately.

    Rotary actuators can be

    retrofitted at any time,

    provided that the necessary

    fitting space is available. Only

    one kit is required for the

    attachment of two sensors.

    The rotary actuators are

    splash-water and dust proof.

    vane-type cylinders; the

    adjustable throughout the

    range. End positions can be

    adjusted by means of stop

    screws and lock nuts.

    In the case of the basic

    versions, the impact energy

    of the stop lever is absorbed

    by elastic cushioning plates.

    With Types CL/CR/CC,

    end-position cushioning is

    by means of self-adjusting

    shock absorbers Type YSR-...-C.

    The rotary vane itself is not

    suitable for use in defining

    end positions, i. e. the stop

    lever and stops must not be

    removed. The interior of the

    housing is protected against

    water splashes and dust.
