50th Anniversary Year Saturday 9th November 2—5 PM
A sumptuous spread will be provided by the Club. We are arranging most of the catering, but if current members could bring a plate of cakes and slices as well, it would be very helpful as knowing the final numbers for the day is diffi-cult. Wendy Lovel, Heather Coates, Nicole Martin and Rachael Phelan ( Gillespie) are steering this event.
All current members are invited to be part of this cele-bration. Over 100 replies to the invitations have been received.

CANDLEBARK HORSE TRIALS.
The true Spring weather for our district did not detract from the success of this event .Despite the cold showers, the wind interspersed
with the sunny breaks, this two day event was a great tribute to the members who were able to be part of the team who made it possi-
ble.
Judy Climas, Event Director and her team of coordinators ran a very successful event.
Setting up the event prior to the weekend takes a large effort. The long Spring grass in the club area and on the competition areas was a concern .
The Crawford Crew, our very newest members arrived on the Monday after the rally with a trailer, three mowers and three drivers and brought
the club area back into respectable condition. On Tuesday Brad Cocks arrived with Stewart Murray’s tractor and slasher and attacked the float
parking area. On Wednesday David Stammers arrived with another tractor and slasher.
This tractor and slasher has been donated to the club by John Francis, a regular instructor and long time supporter of our Club.
Our Club is very grateful for your generosity John.
Over the remainder of the week Brad, Ben Coates and David Stammers did “Tag” teaming and cleaned up around the X.C. course and the parking area.
Ian Brewer’s tractor and mower cut large areas the previous week and members and their whipper snippers tidied up around the X.C. fences.
The X.C. was coordinated by David Stammers with assistance from Bryan Wilson. Bryan spent many, many hours on the course paint-
ing, trimming around fences’ flagging and numbering the course etc, etc. Tom Christensen took home two discarded metal framed jumps which
were given to the Club, and returned then in pristine condition ready to be included in the course. Thank you to you both.
David Stammers was also busy on the course building and repairing jumps, as well as mowing. His major effort was put into making sure that we
had a good water supply for the event. Over the past few months the water pressure at the Club has been down and was not suitable for a large
event. David located the trouble and repaired and replaced where necessary. Thank you for your overall contribution to the success of the
event David. As part of his Coordination role, it was David’s responsibility, with Bryan’s help, to make sure that X.C. day ran smoothly.
Joanne Heintz was X.C. marshal, a role that she has taken for a number of years, and Colin Pope an ex-member was Starters Assistant. Peter Ro-
daughan was on the finish, a position he has taken over a number of years.
Meanwhile “back in the Clubrooms” Rhonda Franks and her team had the Canteen well stocked and operating smoothly from early on Saturday
morning to Sunday afternoon. The Canteen is a very important part of the weekend and Rhonda has coordinated this area for several years. Many of
her assistants this year were riding members of the Club. Jenny and Ramzy Kurban attended to Sunday morning breakfast as they have done for
a number of years.
Tina Cowley and the team dealt with competitors over the weekend via the Office. It was very nice to see ex members Sharon Green in the Office
again for the two days, and Susannah Clarke opened the office on Friday evening for the early arrivals.
In the weeks leading up to the event it was Leanne Pearce who coordinated the entries and allocated the yards and had all the information
ready for the office.
The Scoring room was coordinated by John Mahoney with assistance from Leanne Pearce, and others. The team provided the competitors with
regular up dated scores. One of the “perks” of working on the scoring is that the catering table is just outside the door.
Food Glorious Food—Catering for the Judges and Officials on Saturday and Sunday was from the kitchen of Wendy Lovel and Helen
Cocks with several other parents donating slices. Tom and Wendy Christensen with assistance from donations from members coordinated the
Saturday night dinner. About 80 people sat down for dinner on Saturday night. Serving, clearing and washing up after the dinner was shared by Adult
and Junior members of the Club. RCPC is renowned for the quality of catering during our big events.
Show Jumping which is a very busy arena over the two days was under the control of the Poker family with assistance from the Brewer fam-
ily. With the highly respected and experienced Jenny Muir as Course designer and the equally highly qualified FEI judge Anne Jones in this ring,
success was assured.
Dressage coordination was again the responsibility of Sue French. With a good turn up of parents on the Friday prior to the event the arenas were
erected quickly. Sue has taken this role for many competitions and with the large arena and modern equipment she has the set up procedure down to
a fine art. By coordinating this area regularly’ she has a good list of Judges and Marshals from which to draw.
Parking has caused problems in the past because of wet weather. A new drain preventing the water from the road spreading across the parking
area has helped this problem. Brad Cocks and Ben Coates coordinated the team over the two days and with good
preparation prior to the event had this role well and truly sorted. A few more truck loads of fill could improve this even
further.
Snake in the grass. Yes, the slashing of the X.C. course disturbed a couple of “wriggly” friends who live in the country
side.
Special thanks to all Sponsors, particularly Horseland Sunbury.

OUT AND ABOUT
Candlebark—Only three of our riders competed. Bessie Dimery on Agent Orange was pleased with their clear round in S.J.and X.C. This event was a learning experience for Hayley Marciniak on Windarra Czar, after being placed 4th after Dressage had a memory lapse on X.C.
Lucy did a great job in the dressage, but had trouble on the cross country course.
Oaklands Horse Trials—Hayley Marciniak on Windarra Czar and Laura Frost on Owendale Kelvin were our only representatives at this event. After a clear round in both X.C. and S.J. , Laura and Kelvin were placed sixth. The windy weather made it difficult for some horses to pro-duce a good test. Well done Laura. Hayley and Czar were not phased by the weather and were first after Dressage. One rail down in S.J. and trouble at the water in X.C. pushed
Hayley down the list. Czar is very new to eventing and shows promise.
Sunbury Show—Even though Bianca Fiorentino has left Pony Club is good to hear that Oscar
won a Champion Led Class at this event.
Lancefield Show—Lauren Cocks went to Lancefield show with Rachael Phelan and her daughter Olivia. Rachael kindly let Lauren ride her new pony and they came 3rd in their class. Olivia did very well winning her pony club riding Rachael went well in the open ring too. Edwina and Felicity Sutherland were having a fantastic day as well. Thanks for this report Helen. The Brand girls also competed at this event, and the Euroa show as well. Sharona Brewer had a good day in the S.J. ring. Starting in the 60cm, progressing to the 75cm, and then with a little appre-hension on to the 90cm, Sharona surprised herself with the good round that she jumped. Some-
times it is just “the wanting to do it” that takes you to the next level. Well done Sharona.!
Kayla Young has been out showing this month. Show Horse Council junior showcase in Tatura - finalist in child's hack. Geelong Royal - pony club 2nd in best presented handler, 4th pony club
rider & 4th pony club mount.
Fimister Shield—Seven of our riders entered for this competition. In “E” grade Hayley Neagle had a Sixth placing. and Laura Frost was also entered. Gabbie Malin was entered in the “D”grade. In C grade Isabelle Cowley and “Marlee” had a big day and was very pleased with their first start in Cgrade. She is hoping for
a place in the CZ team for the State Champs in March.
Bridget Mouat and Lauren Cocks competed in F grade at the Fimister Shield. Lauren and her pony Digger placed 5th in the two phase, 3rd in the two round competition, and 3rd overall. Lauren also received the equitation award. Bridget and her pony Ember were 5th in the two round, and 6th overall. Well done to all
our riders.
Victorian Equestrian Interschool Series Presen-tations were held at Ayr Hill Equestrian centre last Friday the 25th October. Throughout the year the 3 girls, Genevieve and Lizzy Brand and Abbey Martin competed at approx 12 Interschool dressage com-petitions and points were awarded for each placing they achieved at these competitions. These points were then tallied and Genevieve Brand was the
Champion for the Medium dressage section riding Regal Tiarnah, Elizabeth Brand was the Champion in the Primary Preliminary section riding Helden Park Pennywise and Abbey Martin was the Champion in the Preparatory section riding Beauparc Melody. Rather an
amazing result as all 3 kids are at RCPC??? Thank you for this report Nereda.
We should have a large number of riders vying for positions in the CZ Dressage team for the State
Champs in 2014.
Dear RCPC members,
I just wanted to write a brief message in this month’s newsletter to thank
all our volunteers in the recent Candlebark Horse Trials.
Our profit is yet to be finalised with refunds and invoices still to arrive, but by all
accounts it looks to have been a successful event.
The amount of time, effort and cost that goes into running events of this magnitude
is enormous. Many hours have been spent on preparing the grounds (especially the
xc course), baking/making food for the canteen, judges lunches and the Saturday
night dinner, co-ordinating the event, marshalling/scoring the three disciplines and
manning the office/front gate from dawn till dusk.
On the two event days there were many members busily working on their given
tasks or what I like to call organised chaos. The way in which everyone worked to-
gether to form a well oiled machine was amazing to watch. Remember we are not
professional event co-ordinators, just parents of our riders trying to raise some
funds to make our pony club environment better.
I have been watching the online horse forums going around and have seen positive
comments about our event. We have received both verbal and emailed positive
comments about our event too. We should all be proud of what was achieved.
I would like to thank some of the younger riders who came and donated their time.
They worked just as long and hard as the adults, so to you all, a big thanks.
Lastly and most importantly I would like to personally thank the organising com-
mittee and co-ordinators for all their work behind the scenes as without this team,
the event could not have been run.
It’s times like these that make me feel honoured and proud to be President of this
remarkable pony club.
Thank you all,
John Mahoney.
