Central Zone Horse Trials 30th June.

This is the major Horse Trials event for our Zone in 2013.

The Zone is pleased to announce that this years Central Zone HT will be held at Melton on the 30th June 2013. All entries are via Event Secretary www.eventsecretary.org.au.

We encourage all of your members to attend this event as there is a perpetual shield donated by Equestrian Club Supplies for the club with the highest amount of points on the day in the zone. This is also a great event to encourage club team spirit and for the more experi-enced riders from your club to support the inexperience riders from the lower grades.

This year Zone will be presenting a perpetual trophy in lasting memory of an outstanding young rider from our zone, who competed in Pony Club Horse Trials at the highest level. The winner of the highest grade compet-ing on the day will be awarded the

"Mathew Slade Memorial Trophy"

Zone and RCPC would like to thank Melton for offering to host this event. Prior to this event our Club will hold X.C. training days to give our riders an outing and school before they tackle the Melton course. Those riders who would like to attend this clinic need to fill in a sheet on the table on Sunday.

Dates --- Weekend 22nd -23rd and/ or 15th -16th.June.

Sad News Towards the end of the May rally, Chikito, Laura Harding’s horse became lame, so he was taken home early. The next day his leg was very swollen. The Vet was called ands the news was not good. Once the swelling went down, the leg was examined again, and serious tendon trouble was diagnosed. This means that Chikito’s Eventing and Jumping days are probably over. A sad time for Laura and her family.

Special Thank you

Thank you to Ian Mustey and son Scott for donating their time to set up a system for the drainage of the Events parking area, while they were here spreading the granitic sand around the Clubrooms.

A drain has been formed to take the water from the Sutherlands Rd flow, through the existing dam and out into the natural fall which sends the water to the large dam for storage, on the Clarke property.

Master Painters at work.

Thank you to Kaylene Scott, Tina Cowley and Wendy Lovel who have painted the new showers for us. Not a paint spot, run or smudge anywhere.! ! !

A most impressive job.

OUT AND ABOUT—cont… State Championships (Eventing) Deniliquin 4th –5th May. Four of our

riders represented RCPC and Central Zone at this event. Below is a report of the weekend from Alice Poker. The photos were taken by our Zone rep. Leonie Lang. Thank you for allowing us to use them Leonie.

On the first weekend in May, four Riddell’s Creek members – Sarah French riding Victory (Gr1), Lucy Gunn riding Ray-mond K (Gr1), Lizzy Cox on Jaybee Flyer (Gr2) and Alice Poker on Jingle all the Way (Gr2) – competed at the Victorian Horse Trials State Championships. This year, Deniliquin Pony Club hosted the event, which is part of the Northern Zone. Team Riddell’s Creek all arrived at the venue on the Friday afternoon, set up camp and rode their horses in preparation for the big weekend to come. The organizing committee was still preparing the cross-country track throughout the eve-ning, using graders and tractors, which very rapidly coated everyone in a very thick layer of dust. On the first day of com-petition, all four riders completed their dressage tests. The standard of competition was high. Lucy, who rode an ex-tremely accurate test, was placed 5th after this phase. Sarah also produced a very obedient test, which attained her 6th place after the dressage in grade 1. In the grade 2, Lizzy was happy with her test, as Jay remained relaxed throughout it. Alice on the other hand, was disappointed with hers as Elf became uncharacteristically tense, due to his dislike of the photographer. Both combinations were placed mid-field after this phase. As the showjumping and the cross-country events were to be held the next day, riders had ample time to walk their courses. This was very lucky, as Bear Grylls like skill was needed to find your way around the cross-country, as it was set up in dense bush. Apart from navigational diffi-culties, the course seemed more challenging than past years, with many unusual questions. Some of the more notable jumps included a very large drop and a Murray Cod. Many of the jumps had themes linked to the Northern Zone, such as sheep, rice, farming and rivers. Later on Saturday afternoon, all of the grade 1 and 2 riders had the chance to participate in the official cross-country course walk. Emma Scott led this walk for the grade 1’s while Trevor Feldtmann directed the grade 2’s. Both gave advice on how best to ride each jump.

The traditional championship dinner was not so well done, as it left many people still hungry. However this was made up for by the novelty of a blind auction, where various sponsors donated goods for the competitors and their families to bid on, with all proceeds going to the Deniliquin Pony Club. Another surprise was when Lizzy won a first aid kit for having the tidiest camp. The Riddell’s Creek team then retired to their campsites, for a good night sleep, in preparation for their cross-country and showjumping. During the night, Ray and Elf made a bid for freedom. Luckily, they did not venture far in their search for grass and were returned to their yards.

The grade 2 riders were the first to tackle the cross-country. There were many difficulties experienced across the course. Lizzy unfortunately had a number of stops at the drop and at the water complex, which put her out of the competition. However, she then produced a lovely showjumping round which allowed her to finish on a good note. Alice was next out on the cross-country. The combination also had some difficulties at the apexes and the water complex. Alice went on to complete a clear showjumping round, which allowed her to finish the competition mid-field. Sarah and Victory went out on the cross-country for the last time as a member of RCPC. Unfortunately, they had a slight mishap at the drop. The combination went on to complete an otherwise clear (straight through the water!) and composed round. In the show-jumping phase, Victory jumped a jump awkwardly, which unbalanced horse and rider. Sarah rode extremely well to get Vic back on track for the rest of the course, which also enabled her to end up mid-field in grade 1.

Things were not right for Lucy and Ray on the Sunday, so Lucy chose not to compete. Overall, all riders gained a lot of experience from the weekend. Although we did not do as well as we had hoped, we tried our best and that is all that any-one can do! Thank-you to all of the families that helped support and encourage all of the team. A special mention to Judy Climas who drove all the way to Deniliquin to cheer us on! We couldn’t have done it without any of you! Well done to all riders, and hopefully we can improve next year! Remember Riddell’s Creek is hosting the Championships in 2014 and we

need as many members aiming to ride at this event as possible.

Final to be 24th August at Moonee Valley. All days for these clinics are on a SATURDAY. This Speed to Safety experience will help with riding the time you need for Cross Country, Show Jumping, Endurance

Oaklands Hunt Club is also celebrating a milestone this Year, It is the Clubs 125th Anniversary.

If you would like to hear this presentation put your name on the list on the table.

This years Children’s Hunt is being held at Pyalong on Sat. 29th June.

Talk to Will Poker who has recently taken up Hunting, if you are interested in attending.

Several of our members have experienced the fun of the Children’s Hunt. David Stammers can give you more information.

Lost basket

Sue Frost brought a cane basket full of goodies for our last event. All of the goodies were used during the day, but unfortunately the basket seems to have disappeared during “Clean Up”. If you know where the basket is, please speak to Sue or John Ma-honey.
