The receiver makes sure he or she understands what the sender is saying. First, the sender gets the attention of the receiver and clearly states the message. Second, the receiver repeats the message in a paraphrased form, which helps the sender know if the receiver understands the message. (Many organizations required verbatim repeat-backs.)
