    The Pre-Flood World

When YHVH created the Heavens and theEarth He separated the waters below from thewaters above on the Second Day. The watersbelow consisted of rivers, lakes and theoceans. The waters above the firmamentgathered and formed a water or ice canopythat enclosed and protected the earth abovethe atmosphere. Note that all the other days YHVH said that it was good, except this day. We will touch on this later in this study.Rain did not exist until after the flood came and we read from Scripturethat the earth was watered by mist that came forth from the earth. The floodcovered the whole earth including all the mountains. Where did all this watercome from? It came from the waters above that rained down for 40 days and40 nights.

Prior to the Flood people lived becoming close to 1000 years of age becauseof this protective water canopy above the firmament that filtered out all harmfulinfrared and x-rays. After the flood, the water canopy no longer existed, andmanonly became a maximum of 120 years old. (Gen 6:3)

Spiritual Application : The waters above had two functions, it preserved and

protected and later on it Judged and cleansed. The Word (water) of YHVH issimilar; it protects and keeps those who submit under it so that they willhave a long life, but to those who rebel against it, they will be destroyed by it.

The Bigger PictureThree cataclysmic things happened from Creation within the first 11 chapters ofGenesis that changed humanity forever:

    1. Adam & Eve ate of the forbidden tree which resulted in the ground beingcursed, bringing forth thorns, in toil ( etzev ) man shall eat of the earth andwomen will bear children in pain ( etzev).

    2. Then there was the Flood. It wiped out the world, all humans and animalsexcept 8 souls, 1 pair of each kind of animal were saved, and 7 pairs ofeach kind of clean animals were rescued (Gen 7:2). Why more cleananimals?

    3. Men build the Tower of Babel, and the language was confused into manylanguages resulting in the scattering of mankind all over all the earth.

All these things were a result of sin that came after YHVH’s creation. These things had a big impact on the Plan of YHVH and what His original intent was

and He had to do something to reverse the effect of sin and its consequencesso that He could Restore back His Creation its original design and purpose. The process was started through Y ’shua Who was sent into this realm to restore the effects of these major events:

    1. The first event had an adverse effect on YHVH’s Word; it brought lies and false doctrines distorting His Word.

    2. The second event had an impact on YHVH’s Creation; Human DNA weredefiled by the interference of the Fallen Angels. They mixed (sexual orscientific) with the daughters of man and produced Giants (Gen 6).

    3. The third event violated YHVH’s Authority, where man wanted to becomelike God where nothing would be impossible for them if they succeededbecoming One or Echad.

The Wickedness of Mankind – YHVH RepentedGen 6:6-7 And YHVH repented that He had made man on the earth, and He was angry to His heart. (7) And YHVH said, I will destroy man whom Ihave created, from the face of the earth, both man, and beast, and thecreeping thing, and the fowls of the air. For I repent that I have made them.

Q – Why did YHVH repent, did He have any sin to repent from?

Repentance is the Hebrew word “ nacham ” that means – to sigh, that is,breathe strongly; by implication to be sorry , that is, (in a favorable sense) topity, console or (reflexively) rue; or (unfavorably) to avenge or to takerevenge (oneself): - comfort (self), ease [one’s self], repent ( -er, -ing, self).

The word “ nacham ” means to be sorry; YHVH repented that He made man andHe wanted to take vengeance and destroy (judge) man. Another interesting

thing seen in the Hebrew is that the word for repent, “ nacham ” , xnalsoreveals what the judgment will be.

“Nacham ” ends with the “ mem ” , that means water that links perfectly with thecontext of this verse where this judgement will be by water.

  • 8/20/2019 Parashah 2 - Noach

    3/13

    3

What is even more fascination is when you remove the “Mem” or “water”,

indicating that the water resided, you are left with “ Nun Chet ” xn that spells“Noach”. Noah means ‘rest’ and ‘comfort’ and those who took YHVH Wordserious connected themselves with the “ Nun-Chet ” or Noah and entered HisRest (Ark) while the ones who rejected the Truth,

joined themselves with the “ Mem ” or water thatbecame their Judge. The Word of YHVH is His waterthat cleanses, and you can decide the cleansingprocess; out of free will, submitting under the water ofthe Word, or out of rebellion, rejecting the Word onlyto drown in judgement later on. The same is withY’shua ; you can accept Him as your Saviour or rejectHim and meet Him as your Judge. Another thing tonote is that Salvation is always happens in a time of Judgement, you are notsaved yet, you are in the process of being saved.

Q – What do you have to do to avoid Judgment? We find this is the opening words of John the Baptist as well as Y’shua’s ministry “Repent for the Kingdom is at hand ”. We saw how YHVH repented butthere is another word for repentance in Scripture that relates to us and that isthe word “ shoob ” that means; to turn back, to retreat, to return. Eze 14 explainswhat this repentance is all about:

Eze 14:6-7 Therefore say to the house of Israel, So says the Adonai YHVH: REPENT and TURN from your idols, and TURN AWAY your faces from allyour abominations. (7) For every one of the house of Israel, or of thestranger who lives in Israel, who separates himself from Me and sets up his

idols in his heart, and puts the stumbling-block of his iniquity before his face, and comes to a prophet to ask of him concerning Me; I YHVH willanswer him Myself.

This repentance has to do with people who separated themselves from YHVH.We saw last week that separation is part of the creation process and every daywas good except the 2 nd day when He separated the waters from the waters. When He separated the waters below from the waters above He knew that thewaters above will come down in the time of Noah in the form of Judgement onthose who have separated themselves from Him (v7).

Separating things that are different it is good, like the separation of light anddarkness, water and land, but when you separate things that are the same, likewater and water or people and people, then it is not good. Separating yourselffrom YHVH is like the separation of water with water because you are ofthe same substance as YHVH, made in His Image. People who separatethemselves from YHVH triggers the “separated water from above” down onto themselves in the form of Judgment that will destroy them. YHVH knew whenHe separated the waters from the waters on Day 2, what will happen in thefuture, and that was not good.

to bring forth what it is intended for, and that causes “delays” from ourperspective. That is why you must keep on standing in faith until you see theresult of your prayer. Some people lose patience and give up saying that YHVHwill not hear them. He does hear you; it only takes time and patience and faith isthe key to answered prayers.

Faith is the link and “bridge” you build between the Physical and Spiritual Realms to “connect” the outcome or answer to our prayer to us. For your prayerto be answered, the bridge must be maintained until the solution has “travelled”to you. Stand in faith until your prayer is answered. Another reason is becauseof the complex Spiritual Realm where things have to happen first before it canmanifest in the Physical. We find an example in Scripture where Daniel prayedand the answer did not come to him immediately because of a battle that had tobe won in the spiritual before he received his answer.

Nephilim or Giants on the EarthQ - Why did YHVH destroy the world in the time of Noah?

Gen 6:9 These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with Elohim.

Noah was perfect in hisgenerations, and that means thathe and his family were not defiledby the fallen angel defilement thatwe read prior in Gen 6:1-4:

Genesis 6:1-4 The sons of Elohim saw that the daughters ofmen were fair, and they tookwives of all that they desired andchose. . .There were giants in theearth in those days – and alsoafterwards – when the sons ofGod lived with the daughters ofmen, and they bore CHILDRENto them”

The Fallen Angels either had the technology to defile YHVH’s Creation or theyhad sexual intercourse with humans to contaminate the known human race inthe time of Noah. Noah and His family were just and righteous and kept theirdistance from this evil. This is the most plausible explanation of why YHVHmade the decision to judge the whole earth and destroy it. If you read the Bookof Enoch, you will get more insight into this topic andmore detail on the Giants or Nephilim that walked theearth in the time of Noah.

Today archaeologists find evidence not only of theseGiants skeletons that proof their existence, but also the

structures that were build that is not even possible withtoday’s technology which was the handy work of theNephilim or Giants.

The Covenant with Noah Adam and Eve were in a relationship with YHVH by having His Spirit; His Breathbreathed into them right from the beginning. When they sinned, they lost theSpiritual Connection with YHVH and were removed from His Presence.

In Noah’s time wickedness and violence ruledand YHVH decided to start with a clean slate, cleansing the earth from all wickedness. Thiswas the first example of salvation where YHVHsaved His people in the time of Judgement.

    Gen 9:8-9 And Elohim spoke to Noah,and to his sons with him, saying, (9) Behold! I, even I, establish My covenantwith you, and with your seed after you;

After the Flood, YHVH spoke to Noah and showed him the Rainbow, the sign ofthe Covenant regarding the past and future Judgements. The rainbow is notonly a sign that YHVH will not destroy the Earth with water again, but is areminder that He will cleanse the Earth with Fire.

2 Peter 3:3-7 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last daysscoffers, walking after their own lusts, 4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continueas they were from the beginning of the creation. 5 For this they willinglyare ignorant of, that by the word of Elohim the heavens were of old, andthe earth standing out of the water and in the water: 6 Whereby theworld that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: 7 But the

heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept instore, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition ofungodly men.

Y’shua said that His Second Coming would be like in the days of Noah wherepeople will go about their business and not be prepared for what is coming dueto a lack of knowledge and unbelief.

Matthew 24:37-39 For the Son of Man’s coming will be just as it was in the days of Noach. Back then, before the Flood, people went on eating anddrinking, taking wives and becoming wives, right up until the day that Noach entered the ark; and they didn’t know what was happening until the Flood came and swept them all away. It will be just like that when the Son of Man comes.

To be sure, the passage in 2 Peter also mentions the conditions in which wewill be living that will usher in the return of Messiah and the Judgment of YHVH.So now that we have been sufficiently warned in advance, what shall we do toprepare ourselves? Most believers are ignorant of the end times and what to doin order to prepare . Noah had the “plan” YHVH gave him to follow and we havethe Book of Revelation to study to prepare ourselves. Rev 1:3 states thateveryone reading and doing what is in the Book will be blessed. Are youignorant or do you understand Revelation so that you will be blessed prior to

His Second Coming. This is the message to His Covenant people to be ready,to be watchman and to warn others of the final Judgment that is at hand similarto the days of Noah.

Q – What is the purpose of a Covenant?

A Covenant is needed in order to have a relationship with “fallen man”. This Covenant agreement covers our “fallen state” while we are created into His Likeness, so that we can be reunited with Him in the “Garden of Eden” (New Jerusalem) at His Second Coming. Every Covenant has a sign that acts as areminder, like the rainbow, when you see it you think of what YHVH promised.

The Ark is a Picture of Messiah

There are some similarities between the Ark and Messiah:

The Ark was made using incorruptible wood -Messiah was a man without sin.

A dove descended upon the Ark while in thewater and a dove descended upon Messiah when

He was baptised. The purpose of the Ark to save mankind and thatis Messiah’s purpose as well.

People could enter the Ark out of free will, andyou accept Messiah as your Saviour out of freewill.

The entrance was on the side of the Ark where the Noah and his familycame out after judgement and Y’shua’s side was o pened where waterand blood came out when He died as a result of the judgement of sin.

Noah and his family found rest in the Ark during the time of judgementand we will enter into His rest while the earth is going to be judged.

YHVH’s Grace: YHVH said that He would not destroy the earth untilMethuselah died. Methuselah was the oldest person recorded in Scripture (969years old) and that shows YHVH’s grace and that He delayed Judgement in order to give humanity more time to repent. Methuselah was the 8 th born from

    Adam, 8 means new beginnings, and this is what the flood signify; newbeginnings for mankind. Y’shua also tarries before His Coming before HisJudgement so that more people can be saved. Grace is seen in Noah’s name;

“Noach ” xn means rest, but if you reorder letters you get “Chen” ]x that meansgrace. Even during Judgement YHVH takes care of His people giving them rest

    and grace.

Keep your BalanceNoah is described as “ ish adamah ”, the man of the earthwhen he planted a vineyard, made wine, got drunk andwas found naked in his tent by his son Ham.

Q – Ever wondered why Noah made wine and got drunk?

Was it the fermentation process that took him by surprisedue to climate change because the water canopy

vanished after the flood? Was it an indication to the righteous to show them thatthey can fall?

We all have a “ yetzer harah ” or evil inclination that tries to draw us away fromYHVH. “Yetzer ” means imagination and “ Rah ” means evil giving the meaning of“evil imagination”. The evil inclination or imagination always tries to convinceyou that bad is good and good is bad, trying to get you to stumble. Paul calls itthe “old man” or “old nature” that you battle against in order to live a holy life. The yetzer hara is not a demonic force, but rather man's misuse of things thephysical body needs to survive. Losing balance if you like; the need for foodbecomes gluttony, the gift of procreation becomes lust, etc., all because of theyetzer hara .

If you give ear to this voice in your head, it will convince you with your own logicto do something that might tip you over the edge into sin. This probablyhappened to Eve when that voice that told her to go closer to the tree just tolook at the beautiful fruit. Next thing, she was taking a bite .

Q - Was this the voice that tempted Noah to drink just one more unto a point ofoverindulgence?

In order to “keep your balance” and not sinning can be explained by theexample of a tightrope walker. A tightrope walker maintains his balance byleaning slightly to the opposite side of what he feels is compromising hisbalance. If you do not do this when you feel drawn to “the wrong side”, losingbalance, you will not compensate and move away from danger, loose balanceand fall to your death. Noah is described as “ ish adamah ”, the man of the earthwhen he planted a vineyard, made wine, got drunk and was found naked in histent by his son Ham.

Do not reason with your Yetzer Harah, and do not place yourself in situationsthat will tip your weaknesses loosing balance and fall into sin.

    Noah’s Sin, Ham’s Curse – Creating FutureEnemies

Gen 9:20 -26 And Noah began to be a farmer, and he planted avineyard. Then he drank of the wine and was drunk, and becameuncovered in his tent. And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw thenakedness of his father, and told his two brothers outside. But Shem and Japheth took a garment, laid it on both their shoulders, and wentbackwards and covered the nakedness of their father. Their faces wereturned away, and they did not see their father's nakedness.

We will all be tempted with the sin of Ham. Will your face be turned away notsee someone else’s nakedness?

Q - What does it mean to uncover someone’s nakedness?

After Adam and Eve had sinned, they realised they were naked, and we canmake the connection that sin and nakedness are related, sin exposes your truenature and others can see it. If we see a righteous person really messed up, areyou acting as Ham or as Shem and Japheth? Are you exposing them orcovering them in love? Ham exposed his f ather’s nakedness but Shem andJapheth covered his sin.

Shem means, “name” and he becamethe father of the nation of Israel as wellas the Arab nations. They moved tosettle in the Middle East and Asiaareas.

Japheth comes from the word “ patach ”that means “to open”, it also comesfrom the word “ yaphah ” that means“beautiful”. Japheth became the fatherof all the European nations and spreadand populated Europe.

Ham means, “heat” and that fits his sin where he operated in heat of themoment. Without thinking, he acted in the flesh and caused a curse to comeupon him and his descendants. They moved down to settle in the Northernparts of Africa. Ham was the father of Mizraim that became the father to thepeople of Mitzraim better known as Egypt. He was also the father of Canaanbecame the father of the nation called the Canaanites. He also had a son Cushwho was the father Nimrod, the king of the Babylonians. All three thesedescendants of Ham became future enemies of Israel; the Egyptians, theCanaanites and the Babylonians.

Q – What can we learn from this?

Every sin you commit has a consequence, and that consequence creates an

“enemy” waiting to attack, lurking in your future. It does not mean that you will not overcome these enemies but it would have been much easier for Israel ifthe Egyptians, the Babylonians and the Canaanites were friends and not

Nimrod wanted to be like YHVH, to be “Echad” or One and he build a tower toaccomplish that. The second possibility is, because he knew the historyof the flood, he wanted to avoid a similar future event, building something otherthan an Ark to save humanity. The spirit of Nimrod is trying to find alternateways of salvation. We know there is only one way and we find similar religionstoday that seeks alternative means of salvation other than through Y’shua theMessiah. Within this Parashah, we find two structures of Salvation; the Ark ofNoah and the Tower of Babel. Comparing these two structures will give usdeeper insights into YHVH’s Plan vs. Satan’s counterfeit plan.

Noah’s Ark Nimrod’s Tower of Babel

YHVH’s idea Man’s idea Expresses Grace & Salvation Expresses man’s Arrogance Living substance - wood Made from dead material - mudOne build Many buildOne saves Many savesMovable foundation in water / word Stationary – foundation in worldBuild in obedience to YHVH’s word Build in defilement of YHVH’s Word Looks to future - preparation Looks to past – was flood – want to

avoid itEnded in Salvation Ended in confusion and divisionBuild in Faith Build in fearCompleted Not completed

Ark rose higher than tower Not completed – lower than Ark.

Confining and restricting but saves Liberating but exposes to judgementBased on Life – Symbol of “Tree ofLife”.

Based on Knowledge – Symbol of“Tree of Knowledge”.

Q – What is the symbol of Tower of Babel, what does it represent?

Babylon means mixing and confusion, mixing and merging of religions causespeople to loose their true faith and change it for a watered down hybrid faithconsisting of different religions and philosophies, losing its power. The momentyou dilute truth with non-truths forms other faiths you remove the power from thepure Word of YHVH. We read the following in the Book of Revelation regardingthe Babylon system:

Rev 17:4-5 The woman was clothed in purple and scarlet, and adornedwith gold and precious stones and pearls, having in her hand a gold cup full of abominations and of the unclean things of her immorality, 5 and onher forehead a name was written, a mystery, "BABYLON THE GREAT,THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH."

The Tower of Babel not only caused issues in the time of Genesis, but is still isa problem today and referred to as “the Woman riding the Beast” and “the Mother of Harlots”. Everywhere you read in Scripture about a woman orfemale figure, it represents a religious organisation. She being the motherimplies that she has subordinates or daughters, which are other religioussystems and organisations that are founded on similar beliefs and who aresubject to Her authority, tactics and doctrines. This system confuses YHVH’speople and He commands us to come out of Her. (Rev 18:4)

    12/13

    12

The Tower of Babel had one language, and YHVH confused the language sothat the evil unity can be broken. In the same way, we see that the “Babylonian Religious System” today consists of “many languages” (Religions) and try to unify them into One Religion. YHVH will confuse them and scatter them in orderto show then His One true God.

We see an interesting example in the Book of Daniel. Daniel lived at theonset of the Babylonian Exile. He and his friends (Shadrakh, Meshakh, and Abednego) were part of the first wave of Jews to be exiled to Babylon byKing Nebuchadnezzar. In Chapter 3 of the Book of Daniel, we are toldhow Nebuchadnezzar erected a giant golden statue in “the valley of Dura,” the place where Nimrod had constructed the Tower of Babel. He calledall of his ministers and governors together from every corner of hiskingdom and commanded them to bow down to the statue, all peoples, nations and languages.

This Giant Golden Statue is synonym to the Tower of Babel, and we read in

Dan 2:24-29 that the Rock will come and smash the statue at its feet, destroying the systems created by man (political as well as religious) so thatYHVH’s Kingdom can be established before His Coming. This shows us that this Torah Portion is linked to the End Times and to the book ofDaniel and Revelation and the message is for us living in the last days so thatwe can prepare ourselves for His Coming.

Confusing the Speech YHVH created through speech, and he confused speech at theTower of Babel. Speech is the medium to translate an idea or

thought from one mind to another. All languages are symbolic.YHVH created through speech – everything He spoke intoexistence and that we see around us is symbolic of somethinggreater in the mind of YHVH. YHVH has wings, He has a righthand, He is a consuming fire, etc. These symbols help usunderstand Who He is. The Bible also uses parables to explaintruths. When YHVH gave His Torah He wrote it with His finger – notspoken, it is more real and robust than sound.

A language is a medium to translate and transfer an invisible spiritualreality or insight or truth from one intelligent being to another. Spiritual life is onlycommunicated through words. What does confusion of the languages bring, spiritual death? Cannot share with you what is in me. Sin destroyed the mediumto connect people spiritually. Pentecost – YHVH have Torah on Sinai – mixedmultitude heard YHVH in their own Language – Acts 2 HS placed T on theirhearts – mixed Multitude heard the T in their own language.

Like in the Days of Noah …End Times Context. Matthew 24:37-39 For the Son of Man’s coming will be just as it was inthe days of Noach. Back then, before the Flood, people went on eating anddrinking, taking wives and becoming wives, right up until the day that

Noach entered the ark; and they didn’t know what was happening untilthe Flood came and swept them all away. It will be just like that when the Son of Man comes.

The story of Noah and the Flood is the best picture of what salvation is all aboutand when that salvation will take place. Y ’shua connects the flood event with theSecond Coming where He will come again to judge the world. YHVH promisednever to destroy the world again by water as stared in our current Parashah(8:21), and in it’s corresponding Haftarah (Isaiah 54:9). Yet, because of the

continued evil condition of the hearts of men, he must render judgment onceagain, only this time the destruction will be by fire (2 Peter Chapter 3,specifically vs. 3-7). To be sure, the passage in 2 Peter also mentions theconditions in which we will be living which will usher in the return of Messiah, and the Judgment of HaShem. So now that we have been sufficiently warned inadvance, what shall we do to prepare ourselves?

The lessons to be learned from Parashat Noach are timeless. Moreover, thesolution to the dilemma that is facing mankind is still the same —the mercy andprovidence of HaShem. In our last parashah, B’resheet, we learned how the

Adversary tricked our first parents into “running to the tree” that God

commanded them to stay away from. By their disobedience, death and sin havebeen introduced into the world, and as a result of that disobedience, all men areslaves to sin. But in this current portion, we find a glimmer of hope, onerighteous man, of whom it is spoken, Babel is the Mother of all false religions.
