Painting and drawing with pleasure

This slideshow offers some

ways to learn to teach

drawing and painting

without losing this freedom

and ways to bridge the gap

between freshness and

learning.

Constellation,

L’art pour faire grandir et relier les enfants

Children paint like they play, with spontaneity and freshness.

To grow as artists, they have to acquire certain skills and follow certain approaches.

Before even picking up the brush, we start by…

Piquing interest

Putting them at ease

Giving themconfidence

Stimulating the imaginationDeveloping their sense of

observation

Putting them at ease

« When I notice a new face in the

group, I start by welcoming them to

the workshop, because they came to

share their knowledge. They learn

from me and I learn from them. I make

sure they know that there are no

grades and that there is no such

thing as a bad drawing, there are simply drawings which are different, because

each person is different and so what they do is going to be different.».

This is what Sylvia, a painter and group leader in Equator, does:

Page 4: Painting and Drawing

Not being afraid to make mistakes and being confident in your abilities

Ideas for group building and for helping new members and shyer children to become confident in themselves:

Take a moment to RELAX before painting,

Sing a SONG or do a DANCE,

Do some GYMNASTICS moves or YOGA

Giving them confidence

Thinking together and creating a dialogue with others is a way to stimulate the

imagination and give everyone new ideas

Stimulating their imagination

«The children start a brainstorming session which will give them several ideas. I make certain that each person is able to express themselves». Nelly, Bolivia.

Whether this is based on a theme or free drawing, each child’s mind must be stimulated to get the best results.

The group leader talks about the theme and asks the children questions to get their imaginations going.

Through observational drawing, that is drawing in person directly from your

subject.

What’s the purpose of observational painting?

To discover that a tree looks like no other tree,

a mountain no other mountain, a house no

other house, and that even a person’s two

profiles are different.

Developing their sense of observation

Page 7: Painting and Drawing

By looking with an eye for all details

You can for example:

•look at the shape of each object,

•observe each figure,

•look at what’s found up high,

•look for what’s the same height,

•look for the vertical lines

and the horizontal lines,

•look at what’s far and near,

•and look until you’ve seen all there is to really

see.

Take your time!

How do you look with an eye for detail?

Some examples for observing differences

Look at this work.

Each tree has its

height, its shape,

its color, and its

leaves.

Each tree is

different from the

others. Each tree

is unique.

Some examples for observing differences

In this painting, each field and each

mountain is unique.

Each mountain has its height, its

shape, and its color.

The rocks are different sizes and

colors.

The colors of the fields are also

different

Some examples for observing differences

The houses are square or round,

big or small, in different lively

colors.

What’s farther away is smaller however…

You can also take liberties in terms of

space and put everything on the same

plane or vary the sizes as you wish.

Everyone can draw and color

according to their own

imagination.
