Some frozen imported fish available in the market are Pangasius fillets (Vietnam), Salmon (Denmark), Cod (Netherlands), Halibut (Denmark) and Seabass (Spain). In terms of potential growth for Norwegian whitefish in India, the major sources & suppliers are: - Hotels, restaurants and caterers - Supermarket & retail chains - National fish cooperation retail outlets Sanitary certificate In April 2013, the sanitary certificate issue which was prevalent for the past 3 years was finally resolved. There are no entry barriers for Norwegian seafood in India. The import duties are high but those are being negotiated under the EFTA agreement. FACTS - India is among the top 5 nations in terms of fish & seafood consumption - Most fish consumed in India is white fish - Only 56% of India’s population consumes fish. - India’s population is 1.2 billion. - Per capita fish consumption is 9Kg per year Innovation Norway.
