During my time at EIT, I took part in many labs and practicals which were designed to mimic real world systems. These labs cover many different areas of the IT spectrum, such as:

Setting up and configuring many DNS servers. Creating an Internet Information Services (IIS) server, used to host websites. Managing virtualized systems using many popular hypervisors e.g. Oracle’s Virtual Box,

Window’s Hyper-V and also VM-Ware Server ESXI. Working as part of a group, to produce an in-depth IT plan for a local business. Setup and configured a Microsoft Exchange Server, to host an emailing service between

users on the system. An increased understanding of Linux distributions that covers the file system layout,

run-levels/systemd, scripting, sharing/mounting files, kernel creation and remote accessing.

As part of my final semester at EIT, I was required to take part in an Internship. I was fortunate enough to be taken on as an Intern at the GDC. While there I was integrated into their IT department where I:

Helped support the system wide rollout of both Office 2013 and Lync 2013. This includes, staff training and problem solving/troubleshooting.

Helped them organize their asset management document, clear up their store rooms and dispose of old hardware assets such as, phones (post Lync rollout)

Participated on their IT service desk, handling calls and logging tickets. Gained experience in a multitude of previously unused business applications. Such as

Outlook, Lync, Objective, Ozone and Track-it.

Other duties include:

Providing 1st line technical support Answering support queries via phone & email. Ordering new equipment/resources. Setting up new staff members in the required IT systems. Providing IT Inductions to new staff. Determining the nature of faults and the steps required to rectify it. Creating and maintaining email profiles and distribution lists for users. Using remote control software tools to provide fault resolution and diagnosis. Conducting training sessions.

Hobbies:I really enjoy problem solving activities and love puzzles like the Rubik’s Cube. I also like to keep active by going to the Gym, as well as cycling. In my spare time I like to watch TV shows/Movies with friends and family. I also really want to travel the world one day. I haven’t been to any places outside of NZ or Australia, but I love looking at photos of beautiful landscapes and holiday locations.
