ANNOINTING OF THE SICK SCHEDULE

PRAYER CONCERNS

READINGS FOR THE WEEK

Page 3 WEEKLY REFLECTION

RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD Today’s readings invite us into prayer, into relationship with God. Because relationships feel more natural when we know one another well, Sirach encourages us to know God better. In his wisdom, Sirach tells us what God is like: fair,

open-minded, compassionate, and attentive. “The Lord will not delay,” he says. Knowing that God’s help comes right on time, whenever we need it, calms our hearts and helps us trust the Lord. In his second Letter to Timothy, Saint Paul demonstrates his own trust in God. Despite the grueling struggles Saint Paul has faced because of his Christian faith, he praises the Lord for rescuing him time and again. Today’s Gospel draws us close to Jesus too, revealing his special love for the poor and humble. As Jesus tells his parable about the prayer habits of a Pharisee and a tax collector, our hearts long to become as gentle as Christ’s. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

ST. JOSEPH SCHOOL COUGAR UPDATE

1132 Lincoln Way (Next to St. Joseph’s Church)

All Saints Day Is Almost Here Let’s Have Some Fun! Oct. 29th to Nov. 2nd

Saint Quiz Is Back ♦ This Saint was from a very poor family and his early years was

spent as a shepherd ♦ Had Influential Dreams that began at 9 years of age ♦ Performed magic tricks to collect a crowd and then repeated the

Homily he heard earlier in the day ♦ Began an order in the 1860s ♦ Has had movies made about his life

First 6 people to have correct answer receives a small gift.

Everyone will receive a Holy Card of this Saint.

Our Homecoming Gala was an evening full of letterman jackets, fancy dresses, balloon arches, and corsages! Due to

the generosity and support of St. Teresa of Avila parish (that is you!) our event was a success! Every detail was attended to by our enthusiastic and passionate team, and we are thrilled to announce we met our budget and raised $76,370 (before

expenses). Thank you to all of our parish families who contributed in some fashion to this event. The evening let us

relive our high school days! Last Thursday our students participated in a religion enrich-ment series entitled Understanding the Liturgy of the Word with Mrs. Manley. Students delved into the Holy Mass and

learned the postures of each of the rites so that they can fully participate in mass, and furthermore understanding the why.

We are looking forward to our enrichment next month! At Saint Joseph Catholic School, we recognize the incredible

potential of each student to develop into the person that God has authored them to be. Our dedicated staff is ready to serve the needs of your child in a safe and nurturing learning

environment. If you are seeking this exceptional way of education for your child, do not hesitate to contact our school office for an appointment with Mrs. Jenny Oliver, school principal. Let us show you what Catholic education has to offer in 2019-we would love to have you as part of

our SJCS family!

ATTENTION PARISHIONERS: PHISHING SCAM! SAINT VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY

Thanks for your generosity with the SOCK drive (SOCKTOBER) Like last year, your help will comfort our brothers and sisters as the weather changes. The needs are great and gratefully appreciat-ed, A BEAUTIFUL WAY TO SHARE GOD. ..........Don Wilford.............

The Diocese has received multiple reports from parishioners receiving scam emails from an

imposter who creates an email address using the pastor's name and then sends a phony email asking for money in the form of gift cards. The scam has

recently evolved and parishioners are now receiving text messages from the imposter/

scammer using the pastor's name and a local telephone number.

Typically, the scam is initiated when the parishioner receives a casual email or text message from the im-poster with a subject like, "Many Blessings." The

body of the email is written something like, "Good morning, how are you doing?" "I need a favor from you, email me as soon as you get this

message." Then the email is signed using the pastor's name.

Unbeknownst to the recipient, he or she replies to an address that is not the pastor's, but an imposter's

email address. This type of social engineered attack is commonly referred to as Phishing or CEO Fraud (the latter because the imposter uses the name of a person you trust or have a close relationship and

plays on a sense of urgency). The next email usually asks the parishioner to buy gift cards and to transmit the photo of the gift cards with the numbers revealed

to the imposter.

REMEMBER: A pastor or clergy member will never ask for gift cards electronically via email or

text message!! If you believe you are a victim of an internet crime

(no matter what the dollar value), go to the following website to file a report with the FBI Internet Crime

Complaint Center. For more information, go to their website https://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx.

Señor no tarda” dice. Copyright © J. S.
