30TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME - WORLD MISSION SUNDAY October 24, 2021 From the Pastor’s Desk, Last Sunday Bishop Mark launched in our diocese the first phase of the Churchs Synod on Synodality that will take place in our diocese from October 2021 to about April 2022. In his homily for the celebraon he remarked that we might be shaking our heads wondering what a synod on synodality means. Breaking it down he shared that the synod is a coming together of the enre church for a special reflecon / consideraon to on what it means to be the enre church. Parcularly he focused us on the queson of how we parcipate in the ministry of Jesus Christ in the world today. The emphasis being that we together are church, that it takes everybody along-side one another to reflect on how God calls us and empowers us together to be servants in the world. In his leer to the diocese he defined synodality as indicang a way for the People of God to journey together in a posture of aenve listening to the Holy Spirit and to one another. The diocese will be sending out reflecon and discussion tools along with support materials from the Canadian Conference of Bishops to help us parcipate in the synodal process. The Holy Father is offering us the opportunity to parcipate in a me of listening and reflecng to the Holy Spirit and to one another. The hope is that this will help us to discern how Gods presence comes into our life and what the Spirit of God is calling us to do as we share in the call to renew the face of the earth. The more aenve we are to the Spirit of God in our life and in the life of our community the more alive and creave will our response be to the call of Jesus, who is calling us to parcipate in his way, truth and life. I like the way our bishop describes it as a move from maintenance to mission. For the church does not impose itself upon us to do a bunch of things, but rather proposes to us through the invitaon of the Holy Spirit to parcipate in the life of Jesus, to be his witnesses in the world. Many have shared that during the pandemic they have had new opportunies to reflect on the processes of life, the way we have gone about doing things in a busy and hecc manner, and how they have come to queson what they give priority to in their daily life. As we move out of the pandemic as a community it is good for us together to discover anew what it means to be Church. In the guide for this process from the Vacan it clearly states that the purpose of the synod is not to produce more documents, but rather it is intended to inspire people to dream about the church we are called to be, to make hopes flourish, to smulate trust, to bind up wounds, to weave new and deeper relaonships, to learn from one another , to build bridges, to enlighten minds, warm hearts and restore strength to our hands for our common mission.(Vademedum 1.3) May the Lord bless our me together as we come before the Holy Spirit and pray for the outpouring of new life, Fr. 30TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME - WORLD MISSION SUNDAY

October 24, 2021

From the Pastor’s Desk,

Last Sunday Bishop Mark launched in our diocese

the first phase of the Church’s Synod on Synodality

that will take place in our diocese from October

2021 to about April 2022. In his homily for the

celebration he remarked that we might be shaking

our heads wondering what a synod on synodality

means. Breaking it down he shared that the synod

is a coming together of the entire church for a special reflection / consideration to on what it means to be the entire

church. Particularly he focused us on the question of how we participate in the ministry of Jesus Christ in the world

today. The emphasis being that we together are church, that it takes everybody along-side one another to reflect on

how God calls us and empowers us together to be servants in the world. In his letter to the diocese he defined

synodality as “indicating a way for the People of God to journey together in a posture of attentive listening to the Holy

Spirit and to one another.” The diocese will be sending out reflection and discussion tools along with support materials

from the Canadian Conference of Bishops to help us participate in the synodal process.

The Holy Father is offering us the opportunity to participate in a time of listening and reflecting to the Holy Spirit and to

one another. The hope is that this will help us to discern how God’s presence comes into our life and what the Spirit of

God is calling us to do as we share in the call to renew the face of the earth. The more attentive we are to the Spirit of

God in our life and in the life of our community the more alive and creative will our response be to the call of Jesus,

who is calling us to participate in his way, truth and life. I like the way our bishop describes it as a move from

maintenance to mission. For the church does not impose itself upon us to do a bunch of things, but rather proposes to

us through the invitation of the Holy Spirit to participate in the life of Jesus, to be his witnesses in the world.

Many have shared that during the pandemic they have had new opportunities to reflect on the processes of life, the

way we have gone about doing things in a busy and hectic manner, and how they have come to question what they give

priority to in their daily life. As we move out of the pandemic as a community it is good for us together to discover

anew what it means to be Church. In the guide for this process from the Vatican it clearly states that “the purpose of

the synod is not to produce more documents, but rather it is intended to inspire people to dream about the church we

are called to be, to make hopes flourish, to stimulate trust, to bind up wounds, to weave new and deeper relationships,

to learn from one another , to build bridges, to enlighten minds, warm hearts and restore strength to our hands for our

common mission.” (Vademedum 1.3)

May the Lord bless our time together as we come before the Holy Spirit and pray for the outpouring of new life,

Fr. Gerard Cooper

Prayer to St. Joseph

Hail, Guardian of the Redeemer,

Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

To you God entrusted his only Son; in you Mary placed her trust;

with you Christ became man.

Blessed Joseph, to us too, show yourself a father

and guide us in the path of life.

Obtain for us grace, mercy, and courage,

and defend us from every evil. Amen
