Pastor’s Perspective

With summer officially here, many of our parish families (especially the schoolchildren) are getting ready to experience a new routine of life. From family holidays to camps with friends or just plain old taking it easy at home and enjoying family BBQs—summer is a very important part of the year in that, around Calgary, it’s usually short-lived. While it's good for all of us to recharge, refocus, and rest up for that which lies ahead in the not-too-distant future —the inevitable month of September—when school life and routines begin all over again, please watch that you don’t take a vacation from God!

Carry the words of St. Augustine with you over the next couple of months: “You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in you!” Remember to stay connected with Our Blessed Lord, Our Lady, the Angels and Saints by means of daily prayer cause if there's one thing I've learned over the years, it's that there is no such thing as ‘taking a break’ from the ‘Spiritual Life’.

May Our Lady envelop each of you and your family members in her Protective Mantle as we all enjoy the seemingly never-ending days of summer.

In Christ, Fr. Jerome

LIVE THE LITURGY—INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK “No one who sets a hand to the plow and looks to what was left behind is fit for the kingdom of God.” Jesus’ words may seem a bit harsh but are directly on target. The life of discipleship can be costly. Upholding the tenets of the Gospel can put us at odds, even with those most close to us. Jesus never misses an opportunity to spend time with outcasts and sinners. It matters little to him whether doing so breaks a Sabbath law. The Gospel may seem unrealistic, but it is the Gospel nonetheless. We respect the dignity of all persons, from conception to natural death. We work on behalf of justice, which calls us to be with the poor, lonely, confused, and broken. The old “eye for an eye’ mentality no longer applies when it comes to dealing with those who hurt us. When Jesus asks you to follow him, will you go?

Jesus said, “No one who sets a hand to the plow

and looks to what was left behind is fit for the kingdom of God.” (Lk 9:62)

URGENT: Extraordinary Eucharistic Ministers Needed!

As the numbers of parishioners and Mass times have increased in our parish, so have the demands on our Eucharistic

Ministry. We do not have enough Extraordinary Eucharistic Ministers to meet our flourishing parish’s needs, and our

current volunteers are being stretched thin. We need you to help fulfill the needs of our church and to help lighten the

load of others!

We are in need of more ministers at all Mass times, but urgently need more ministers at the Sunday Masses at 10:45

a.m., 12:30 p.m., 5:00 & 7:00 p.m.

Please prayerfully consider contributing your time and talent to join this very fulfilling ministry and to participate in the

Mass on a whole new spiritual level.

No prior experience is necessary as training will be provided.

Anyone interested in becoming a New Extraordinary Eucharistic Minister please contact Shirley at

[email protected] | 403-256-9795 to answer any questions regarding responsibilities and expectations of

this ministry.

Note: Volunteers will be required to fill out parish volunteer forms as well as the following pledge card:

*St. Patrick Church: Extraordinary Eucharistic Minister Pledge Card

As a Minister of the Eucharist for St. Patrick’s Parish, I testify that I am

a baptized, confirmed, practicing Catholic in good standing with the

Church. My marriage was celebrated/blessed by the Church. If

remarried, any previous marriages have received an official

annulment from a Church Tribunal. To the best of my knowledge,

there is nothing in my life that contravenes Church teaching.
