Welcome to the Church of St. Timothy! We are glad you are here, whether it is your first visit or you have been part of our parish community for years. If you have any special needs or questions please just approach one of our friendly greeters or ushers.

How to support St. Tim’s at this time Many people have asked how they can continue to support St. Timothy’s, and the work we are continuing to do, even though we are not gathering to celebrate the Mass together. The best way is to set up an online donation. Please visit this page on our website to get started and to learn more about the other ways you can support us. https://churchofsttimothy.com/supporting-st-tims. We appreciate your generosity very much! Cover photo by Libby Huebner

Where to Find the Most Current Information for St. Tim’s While this bulletin is a great source of information about what is happening at the parish, please note that it is put together and printed about ten days in advance of the date on the cover. We do have several other means of communication that are much more fluid and are updated frequently.

Our website is the definitive source for the most current information, particularly in times when situations may be changing rapidly. We will post the most important updates and communications on the homepage.

We also utilize an email program called Flocknote and typically we send out a Flocknote, to all who have subscribed to this service, each week and it contains brief reminders about things coming up in the next few days. Flocknote has also been used when we have urgent information to share with all of you. You can sign up for Flocknote on our website on the communications page,(churchofsttimothy.com/bulletin) or you can sign up by texting the word Blaine to 84576.

We also are active on Facebook and will update our page with important news as appropriate. You can find us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/StTimothyBlaine.

To reach us you can send an email to [email protected].

Question of the Week: Source of Light Life Everlasting

Jesus said to Martha, "I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?" (John 11:25–26) Ezekiel 37:12-14 - Prophecy of restoration Romans 8:8-11 - The flesh and the Spirit John 11:1-45 - The raising of Lazarus ♦ Adults: Christ calls us from death to new life. To

what new life are you being called during this Lent? ♦ Kids: How does Jesus help you do what is good and

avoid what is not?

The Layers of Holy Thursday by Deacon Joe Frederick

In this series — “Pausing for Lent,” it seems we’ve paused everything for a virus. So we will continue with a transition past Lent towards our Easter celebration. With our individual Lenten preparations nearly complete, we collectively consider Holy Thursday, and together, enter into the most holiest celebration of the year, our three-day Triduum. Holy Thursday, in a certain sense, is like a gateway into a profound 72-hour liturgy, culminating with the Easter Vigil and Easter Sunday Masses.

Looking closely at Holy Thursday, we notice it reveals layer upon layer of increasingly deeper spiritual significance for us. Combined with the rich history of the Church’s liturgy — we discover more love-connections between Jesus, the Holy Spirit, God, and us. We can only begin to scratch the surface in a brief article such as this. Memories. Holy Thursday Mass became very special to me back in 1995 when I was ordained. The Archbishop was clear in helping me understand a central charism of the diaconate ministry, it was, and still is, revealed in the activity of the foot-washing Jesus. Daily, our servant-model, the foot-

washing Christ informs and guides my thoughts and decision-making when I’m faced with responding to life’s daily challenges. During our Holy Thursday Mass we will (if health allows) ask members to wash each other’s feet, modeling that inner spiritual reality that we are all to serve each other at all times. This was Jesus’ message when He said, “If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet.” John 13:14

This offers us an easy model to remember: when I serve others, I feel closer to God, which also generates a snowball-effect which helps develop for us, “grace upon grace” John 1:16 which brings us closer to God. This ‘servant roll’ had been adopted by various Popes’ over the years with the self-title, “servant of the servants of God.” An upside-down model that clearly shows the approach to almost every situation – one of humble service. Quite literally, serving God, my family, and the Body of Christ.

When the church celebrates Holy Thursday Mass, the start of our three-day triduum, we commemorate the apostles Last Supper gathering with Jesus, and His establishment of the priesthood with all those present. At the Last Supper, the big word,

‘transubstantiation’ was made available for all future theologians to discover. At this meal, God joined with us in a new and unique way, in a deep covenantal exchange where He promised salvation to all those who believe. The moment Jesus spoke those words ‘this is my body and blood,’ He changed everything we understood about love, worship, mercy and forgiveness - forever. Eternally infusing Himself into humanity in this way, He invites us to join with God in an inseparable union which brings real life to us; I live for that.

At this Mass we also remember the stark contrast of those events: the betrayal, praying in the garden, the arrest. The immense cost to Jesus became the incredible blessing to us; we can refer to Jesus’ Passion as that great and terrible day. Holy Thursday allows us time to embrace His temporary death and our eternal blessing with profound gratitude as one community. No virus can take your gratitude away. As God’s resurrection people, we look to what is coming for Jesus during our celebration of the triduum, and together we will voice appreciation with renewed hope, and strength to follow Him and serve others.

The moment Jesus spoke those words ‘this is my

body and blood,’ He changed everything we understood about love,

worship, mercy and forgiveness - forever. for Lent Pause
