n This over-the-range oven is designed for use over ranges nowider than 36.It may be installed over both gas and electriccooking equipment.

n Do not operate this appliance if it has a damaged powercord or plug, if it is not working properly, or if it has beendamaged or dropped. If the power cord is damaged, it must

be replaced by General Electric Service or an authorizedservice agent using a power cord available from GeneralElectric.

n Install or locate this appliance only in accordance with theprovided installation instructions.

n To reduce the risk of fire in the oven cavity:

Do not overcook food. Carefully attend appliance whenpaper, plastic or other combustible materials are placedinside the oven while cooking.

Remove wire twist-ties and metal handles from paper orplastic containers before placing them in the oven.

Do not use the oven for storage purposes. Do not leavepaper products, cooking utensils or food in the oven whennot in use.

Do not pop popcorn in your microwave oven unless in aspecial microwave popcorn accessory or unless you usepopcorn labeled for use in microwave ovens.

If materials inside the oven ignite, keep the oven door closed,turn the oven off and disconnect the power cord, or shutoff power at the fuse or circuit breaker panel. If the door isopened, the fire may spread.

Do not use the oven to dry newspaper.

ARCINGIf you see arcing, press theCancel/Off button and correct the problem.

Arcing is the microwave term for sparks in the oven. Arcing iscaused by:

n Metal or foil touching the side of the oven.

n Turntable ring support not installed correctly.

n Foil not molded to food (upturned edges actlike antennas).

n Metal, such as twist-ties, poultry pins, or gold-rimmed dishes,in the microwave.

n Recycled paper towels containing small metal pieces beingused in the microwave.

FOODSnDo not pop popcorn in your microwave oven unless in a

special microwave popcorn accessory or unless you usepopcorn labeled for use in microwave ovens.

nDo not boil eggs in a microwave oven. Pressure will buildup inside egg yolk and will cause it to burst, possiblyresulting in injury.

n Operating the microwave with no food inside for morethan a minute or two may cause damage to the ovenand could start a fire. It increases the heat around themagnetron and can shorten the life of the oven.

nFoods with unbroken outer skin such as potatoes, hotdogs, sausages, tomatoes, apples, chicken livers andother giblets, and egg yolks should be pierced to allowsteam to escape during cooking.

n SUPERHEATED WATER

Liquids, such as water, coffee, or tea, are able to beoverheated beyond the boiling point without appearing tobe boiling. Visible bubbling or boiling when the container isremoved from the microwave oven is not always present.THIS COULD RESULT IN VERY HOT LIQUIDS SUDDENLYBOILING OVER WHEN THE CONTAINER IS DISTURBED OR ASPOON OR OTHER UTENSIL IS INSERTED INTO THE LIQUID.

To reduce the risk of injury to persons:

Do not overheat the liquid. Stir the liquid both before and halfway through heating it.

Do not use straight-sided containers with narrow necks.

After heating, allow the container to stand in themicrowave oven for a short time before removing thecontainer.

Use extreme care when inserting a spoon or other utensilinto the container.

nFoods cooked in liquids (such as pasta) may tend to boilmore rapidly than foods containing less moisture. Shouldthis occur, refer to the Care and cleaning of the ovensection for instructions on how to clean the inside of theoven.

nAvoid heating baby food in glass jars, even with the lidoff. Make sure all infant food is thoroughly cooked. Stirfood to distribute the heat evenly. Be careful to preventscalding when warming formula. The container may feelcooler than the formula really is. Always test the formulabefore feeding the baby.

nDont defrost frozen beverages in narrow-necked bottles

(especially carbonated beverages). Even if the containeris opened, pressure can build up. This can cause thecontainer to burst, possibly resulting in injury.

nHot foods and steam can cause burns. Be careful whenopening any containers of hot food, including popcornbags, cooking pouches and boxes. To prevent possibleinjury, direct steam away from hands and face.

nDo not overcook potatoes. They could dehydrate andcatch fire, causing damage to your oven.

nCook meat and poultry thoroughlymeat to at least anINTERNAL temperature of 160F and poultry to at leastan INTERNAL temperature of 180F. Cooking to these

temperatures usually protects against foodborne illness.

MICROWAVE-SAFE COOKWAREDo not operate the oven in the microwave mode without the turntable and the turntable support seated and in place.The turntable must be unrestricted so it can rotate.

Make sure all cookware used in your microwave oven is suitable for microwaving. Most glass casseroles, cooking dishes,measuring cups, custard cups, pottery or china dinnerware which does not have metallic trim or glaze with a metallicsheen can be used. Some cookware is labeled suitable for microwaving.

n If you are not sure if a dishis microwave-safe, use thistest: Place in the oven boththe dish you are testing anda glass measuring cup filledwith 1 cup of waterset themeasuring cup either in ornext to the dish. Microwave3045 seconds at high. If the dish heats, it should not beused for microwaving.

If the dish remains cool and only the water in the cupheats, then the dish is microwave-safe.

nIf you use a meat thermometer while microwaving, makesure it is safe for use in microwave ovens.

nOversized food or oversized metal cookware should notbe used in a microwave oven because they increase therisk of electric shock and could cause a fire.

nSometimes the oven floor, turntable and walls canbecome too hot to touch. Be careful touching the floor,turntable and walls during and after cooking.

n Do not use recycled paper products. Recycled papertowels, napkins and waxed paper can contain metal

flecks which may cause arcing or ignite. Paper productscontaining nylon or nylon filaments should be avoided, asthey may also ignite.

nSome foam trays (like those that meat is packaged on)have a thin strip of metal embedded in the bottom. Whenmicrowaved, the metal can burn the floor of the oven orignite a paper towel.

n Do not use your microwave oven to dry newspapers.

nNot all plastic wrap is suitable for use in microwave ovens.Check the package for proper use.

nPaper towels, waxed paper and plastic wrap can be usedto cover dishes in order to retain moisture and prevent

spattering while microwaving. Be sure to vent plasticwrap so steam can escape.

n Cookware may become hot because of heat transferredfrom the heated food. Pot holders may be needed tohandle the cookware.

nWhen microwaving boilable cooking pouches and tightlyclosed plastic bags, they should be slit, pierced or ventedas directed by package. If they are not, plastic could burstduring or immediately after cooking, possibly resulting ininjury. Also, plastic storage containers should be at leastpartially uncovered because they form a tight seal. Whencooking with containers tightly covered with plastic wrap,

remove covering carefully and direct steam away fromhands and face.

nUse foil only as directed in this manual. When using foil inthe microwave oven, keep the foil at least 1 away fromthe sides of the oven.

nPlastic cookwarePlastic cookware designed formicrowave cooking is very useful, but should be usedcarefully. Even microwave-safe plastic may not beas tolerant of overcooking conditions as are glass orceramic materials and may soften or char if subjectedto short periods of overcooking. In longer exposures toovercooking, the food and cookware could ignite.

Follow these guidelines:1 Use microwave-safe plastics only and use them in

strict compliance with the cookware manufacturersrecommendations.

2 Do not microwave empty containers.

3 Do not permit children to use plastic cookwarewithout complete supervision.

GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS

This appliance must begrounded. In the event ofan electrical short circuit,grounding reduces the risk ofelectric shock by providing anescape wire for the electriccurrent.

This appliance is equipped with a power cord having agrounding wire with a grounding plug. The plug mustbe plugged into an outlet that is properly installed andgrounded.

Consult a qualified electrician or service technician if thegrounding instructions are not completely understood,or if doubt exists as to whether the appliance is properlygrounded.

If the outlet is a standard 2-prong wall outlet, it is yourpersonal responsibility and obligation to have it replacedwith a properly grounded 3-prong wall outlet.

Do not under any circumstances cut or remove the third(ground) prong from the power cord.

Do not use an adapter plug with this appliance.

Do not use an extension cord with this appliance. If thepower cord is too short, have a qualified electrician orservice technician install an outlet near the appliance.

For best operation, plug this appliance into its own electricaloutlet to prevent flickering of lights, blowing of fuse ortripping of circuit breaker.

WARNING: Improper use of the grounding plug can result in a risk of electric shock.

THE VENT FANThe fan will operate automatically under certain conditions(see Automatic Fan feature). Take care to prevent thestarting and spreading of accidental cooking fires while thevent fan is in use.

nClean the underside of the microwave often. Do not allowgrease to build up on the microwave or the fan filters.

nIn the event of a grease fire on the surface units belowthe microwave oven, smother a flaming pan on thesurface unit by covering the pan completely with a lid, acookie sheet or a flat tray.

nUse care when cleaning the vent fan filters. Corrosivecleaning agents, such as lye-based oven cleaners, maydamage the filters.

nWhen preparing flaming foods under the microwave, turn

the fan on.

n Never leave surface units beneath your microwaveoven unattended at high heat settings. Boilovers causesmoking and greasy spillovers that may ignite and spreadif the microwave vent fan is operating. To minimizeautomatic fan operation, use adequate sized cookwareand use high heat on surface units only when necessary.

Ensure proper groundexists before use.

Express Cook

This is a quick way to set cooking time for 1-6minutes

Press one of the Express Cookpads (from 1 to

6) for 1-6 minutes of cooking at power level 10.The power level can be changed as time iscounting down. Press Power Level and enter1-10.

NOTE: Express Cookfunction pertains to pads1-6 only.

Add 30 Sec

This will add 30 seconds to the time countingdown each time the pad is pressed. Each touchwill add 30 seconds, up to 99 minutes and 59seconds.

Add 30 Seccan also be used like an express30 seconds button. The microwave oven willstart immediately when pressed.

About the defrost features.

Weight Defrost

Use Weight Defrost for meat. UseTimeDefrost for most other frozen foods.

Defrosting Tips

n Remove meat from package and place onmicrowave-safe dish.

n When the oven signals, turn the food over.Remove defrosted meat or shield warm areaswith small pieces of foil.

n After defrosting, most meats need to stand 5minutes to complete defrosting. Large roasts

should stand for about 30 minutes.

At one half of selected defrosting time, turnfood over and break apart or rearrange piecesfor more even defrosting. Shield any warmareas with small pieces of foil. The oven willcontinue to defrost if you dont open the doorand turn the food.

Noises may be heard during defrosting. Thisis normal when oven is not operating atHigh

power.

Defrosting Tips

n Foods frozen in paper or plastic can bedefrosted in the package. Closed packagesshould be slit, pierced or vented AFTERfood has partially defrosted. Plastic storagecontainers should be partially uncovered.

n Family-size, prepackaged frozen dinners canbe defrosted and microwaved. If the food isin a foil container, transfer it to a microwave-safe dish.

n Foods that spoil easily should not be allowedto sit out for more than one hour afterdefrosting. Room temperature promotes thegrowth of harmful bacteria.

n For more even defrosting of larger foods,such as roasts, use Time Defrost.Be surelarge meats are completely defrosted beforecooking.

n When defrosted, food should be cool but

softened in all areas. If still slightly icy, returnto the microwave very briefly, or let it stand afew minutes.

Ground meat (1 lb) 4 to 6 min. Turn meat over after first half of time.

Roast: beef, lamb, veal,pork

9 to 13 min.per lb.

Use power level 10.

Steaks, chops and cutlets 4 to 8 min.per lb.

Place unwrapped meat in cooking dish. Turn over after first half of time andshield warm areas with foil. After second half of time, separate pieces withtable knife. Let stand to complete defrosting.

PoultryChicken, broiler-fryer, cutup (2 to 3 lbs.)

14 to 20min.

Place wrapped chicken in dish. Unwrap and turn over after first half oftime. After second half of time, separate pieces and place in cooking dish.Microwave 2 to 4 minutes more, if necessary. Let stand a few minutes to finishdefrosting.

Chicken, whole (2 to 3 lbs.) 20 to 25min.

Place wrapped chicken in dish. After half the time, unwrap and turn chickenover. Shield warm areas with foil. To complete defrosting, run cold water in thecavity until giblets can be removed.

Ground meat (1 lb) 7 to 13 min.per lb.

Place unwrapped hen in the oven breast-side up. Turn over after first half oftime. Run cool water in the cavity until giblets can be removed.

Turkey breast (4 to 6 lbs.) 3 to 8 min.per lb.

Place unwrapped breast in microwave-safe dish breast-side down. Afterfirst half of time, turn breast-side up and shield warm areas with foil. Defrostfor second half of time. Let stand 1 to 2 hours in refrigerator to completedefrosting.

About the convenience features.

Popcorn

To use the Popcornfeature:

Press Popcornonce for 2.0 ounce bag, twice

for 2.5 ounce bag, or three times for a 3.0ounce bag.

Cooking starts immediately. You can changethe selection during the initial 30 seconds.

If food is undercooked after the countdown,use Cook Time for additional cooking time.We recommend 30 seconds and watchcarefully.

Use only with prepackaged microwavepopcorn weighing 2.0 to 3.0 ounces.

NOTE: Do not use this feature twice insuccession on the same food portionitmay result in severely overcooked or burntfood.

Beverage

Use the Beveragefeature to heat various

amounts of liquids measured in ounces: Placethe liquid into the microwave oven.

Press Beverageup to four times to choose

the correct selection.

Press once for a 4 ounce beverage.

Press twice for an 8 ounce beverage.

Press three times for a 12 ounce beverage.

Press four times for a 16 ounce beverage.


Reheat

The Reheatfeature reheats servings ofpreviously cooked foods or a plate of leftovers.

Place the cup of liquid or covered food in theoven.

1 Press the Reheat button up to six times tochoose the correct selection.

Press once for a pizza.

Press twice for vegetables.

Press three times for a plate of leftovers.

Press four times for soup.

Press five times for meat.

Press six times for pasta.2 Press the 1, 2, or 3 pad to select the serving

size. For a plate of leftovers, only oneservicing size is valid.

3 Press Start/Pause.Cooking will start when the countdownbegins in the display.

After removing food from the oven, stir,if possible, to even out the temperature.Reheated foods may have wide variationsin temperature. Some areas of food may beextremely hot.

If food is not hot enough after thecountdown use Cook Time for additionalreheating time.

Some Foods Not Recommended for UseWith Reheat

It is best to use Cook Timefor these foods:

Microwave terms.

Arcing Arcing is the microwave term for sparks in the oven. Arcing is caused by:

n metal or foil touching the side of the oven.

n foil that is not molded to food (upturned edges act like antennas).

n metal such as twist-ties, poultry pins, gold-rimmed dishes.

n recycled paper towels containing small metal pieces.

Covering Covers hold in moisture, allow for more even heating and reduce cooking time. Venting plastic wrap orcovering with wax paper allows excess steam to escape.

Shielding In a regular oven, you shield chicken breasts or baked foods to prevent over-browning. When microwaving,you use small strips of foil to shield thin parts, such as the tips of wings and legs on poultry, which wouldcook before larger parts.

Standing Time When you cook with regular ovens, foods such as roasts or cakes are allowed to stand to finish cooking orto set. Standing time is especially important in microwave cooking. Note that a microwaved cake is notplaced on a cooling rack.

Venting After covering a dish with plastic wrap, you vent the plastic wrap by turning back one corner so excesssteam can escape.

About changing the power level.

Power Level

The power level may be entered or changedbefore or during cooking. Power Levelis set forLevel 10 (high) unless it is changed.

1 Press Cook Time.

2 Enter your cooking time.

3 Press Power Level.

4 Enter new power level by using the numberpads.

5 After you have selected the power level,wait five seconds. The display will go backto the Cook Time (Enter Time)screen

6 Press Start/Pause.Variable power levels add flexibility to microwave

cooking. The power levels on the microwave ovencan be compared to the surface units on a range.Each power level gives your microwave energya certain percent of the time. Power level 7ismicrowave energy 70% of the time. Power level3is energy 30% of the time. Most cooking will bedone on High (Power Level 10) which gives you100% power. Power Level 10will cook faster butfood may need more frequent stirring, rotatingor turning over. A lower setting will cook moreevenly and need less stirring or rotating of thefood. Some foods may have better flavor, textureor appearance if one of the lower settings is used.

Use a lower power level when cooking foods thathave a tendency to boil over, such as scallopedpotatoes and some casseroles.

Rest periods (when the microwave energy cyclesoff) give time for the food to equalize or transferheat to the inside of the food. An example of this

is shown with Power level 3the defrost cycle. Ifmicrowave energy did not cycle off, the outsideof the food would cook before the inside wasdefrosted.

Here are some examples of uses for various powerlevels:

High 10 (100%): Fish, bacon, vegetables, boilingliquids.

Med-High 7 (70%): Gentle cooking of meat andpoultry; baking casseroles and reheating.

Medium 5 (50%): Slow cooking and tenderizing

for stews and less tender cuts of meat.Low 2 or 3 (20 or 30%): Defrosting; simmering;delicate sauces.

Warm 1 (10%): Keeping food warm; softeningbutter.

NOTE: You can also change the power level duringmany cooking modes by pressing the power levelbutton entering a valid power level.

Automatic Fan

An automatic fan feature protects themicrowave from too much heat rising from thecooktop below it. It automatically turns on if itsenses too much heat.

If you have turned the fan on you may find thatyou cannot turn it off. The fan will automaticallyturn off when the internal parts are cool. Itmay stay on for 30 minutes or more after thecooktop and microwave controls are turned off.

TurntableFor best cooking results, leave the turntableon.It can be turned off for large dishes.

Press Turntable once to turn the turntable off.Press again to turn the turntable back on.

Sometimes the turntable can become too hotto touch. Be careful touching the turntableduring and after cooking.

Turntable can be turned off during CookTimeor Express Cook features by pressingTurntable. Note: At the conclusion of CookTime and ExpressCookfeatures, the turntablewill automatically return to ON.

Sound On/Off

Press and hold 0 for 3 seconds to switch thesound on or off. Fault beep signals cannot beturned off.

Insert Food Reminder

A reminder will show on the display if the user tries to start thecooking cycle without placing food inside the microwave ovenwithin 5 minutes prior to starting the cooking cycle.

Cooking Complete Reminder

To remind you that you have food in the oven, the oven willdisplay End and beep once a minute until you either open theoven door or press Cancel/Off.

An occasional thorough wiping with a solution of baking soda and water keeps the inside fresh.

Be sure the power is off before cleaning any part of this oven.

How to Clean the Inside

Walls, Floor, Inside Window, Metal and Plastic Parts on the Door

Some spatters can be removed with a paper towel; others may require a damp cloth. Removegreasy spatters with a sudsy cloth, then rinse with a damp cloth. Do not useabrasive cleaners or sharp utensils on oven walls.

Never use a commercial oven cleaner on any part of your microwave.

Removable Turntable and Turntable SupportTo prevent breakage, do not place the turntable into water just after cooking. Wash it carefullyin warm, sudsy water or in the dishwasher. The turntable and support can be broken if dropped.Remember, do not operate the oven in the microwave mode without the turntable and supportseated and in place.

How to Clean the Outside

We recommend against using cleaners with ammonia or alcohol, as they can damage theappearance of the microwave oven. If you choose to use a common household cleaner, firstapply the cleaner directly to a clean cloth, then wipe the soiled area.

Case

Clean the outside of the microwave with a sudsy cloth. Rinse and then dry. Wipe the window clean

with a damp cloth.

Control Panel

Wipe with a damp cloth. Dry thoroughly. Do not use cleaning sprays, large amounts of soap andwater, abrasives or sharp objects on the panelthey can damage it. Some paper towels can alsoscratch the control panel.

Door Panel

Before cleaning the front door panel, make sure you know what type of panel you have. Refer tothe eighth digit of the model number. S is stainless steel, L is CleanSteel and B, W or C areplastic colors.

Stainless Steel (on some models)

The stainless steel panel can be cleaned with Stainless Steel Magic or a similar product using a

clean, soft cloth. Apply stainless cleaner carefully to avoid the surrounding plastic parts. Do not useappliance wax, polish, bleach or products containing chlorine on Stainless Steel finishes.

Plastic Color Panels

Use a clean, soft, lightly dampened cloth, then dry thoroughly.

Door Seal

Its important to keep the area clean where the door seals against the microwave. Use only mild,non-abrasive detergents applied with a clean sponge or soft cloth. Rinse well.

Bottom

Clean off the grease and dust on the bottom often. Use a solution of warm water and detergent.

Cooktop Light/Nite Light

Replace with a 130 volt, 50 watt (max.)halogen bulb. Order WB08X10057 from yourGE supplier.

1 To replace the cooktop light/nite light, firstdisconnect the power at the main fuse orcircuit breaker panel, or pull the plug.

2 Remove the screw from the side of the lightcompartment cover and lower the coveruntil it stops.

3 Be sure the bulb is cool before removing.Break the adhesive seal by gentlyunscrewing the bulb.

4 Screw in the new bulb, then raise the lightcover and replace the screw. Connectelectrical power to the oven.

Remove screw.

Vent Fan

The vent fan has two metal reusable vent filters.

Models that recirculate air back into the roomalso use a charcoal filter.

Reusable Vent Filters

The metal filters trap grease released by foodson the cooktop. They also prevent flames fromfoods on the cooktop from damaging the insideof the oven.

For this reason, the filters must always be inplace when the hood is used. The vent filtersshould be cleaned once a month, or as needed.

Removing and Cleaning the Filters

To remove,slide them to the rear using thetabs. Pull down and out.

To clean the vent filters, soak them and thenswish around in hot water and detergent. Dontuse ammonia or ammonia products becausethey will darken the metal. Light brushing canbe used to remove embedded dirt.

Rinse, shake and let dry before replacing.

To replace,slide the filters into the frame slotson the back of each opening. Press up and tothe front to lock into place.

Charcoal Filter

The charcoal filter cannot be cleaned. It mustbe replaced. Order Part No. WB02X10943 fromyour GE supplier.

If the model is not vented to the outside, theair will be recirculated through a disposablecharcoal filter that helps remove smoke andodors.

The charcoal filter should be replaced when it isnoticeably dirty or discolored (usually after 6 to12 months, depending on usage). See Optional

Kits, page 8, for more information.

To Remove the Charcoal Filter

To remove the charcoal filter, first disconnectpower at the main fuse or circuit breaker, or pullthe plug.

To remove the top grille:

open the microwave door remove 2 screws from the top slide the grille to the left and forward to

remove

You may need to open the cabinet doors toremove the screws.

Slide the filter down and out.

To Install the Charcoal Filter

To install a new charcoal filter,remove plasticand other outer wrapping from the new filter.

Insert the top of the filter up and into the

grooves on the inside of the top opening. Pushthe bottom of the filter in until it rests in place.

Replace the grille by aligning the tabs with thecutouts on the frame and sliding the grille to theright. Replace the grille screws.

Arco Elct r ico Arco elctrico es el trmino que se usa para definir la produccin de chispas en el horno microondas. Los arcoselctricos son producidos por: Metal o papel de aluminio en contacto con el lateral del horno. Papel de aluminio no moldeado a la comida (los extremos doblados actan como antenas). Metales, tales como precintos, pinchos de ave, o platos con rebordes dorados. Toallas de papel reciclable que contengan pequeos trozos de metal.

Tapa Ventilar los envoltorios de plstico o cubrir con tapas con papel para alimentos permite la salida de vaporexcesivo.

Cubrir En un horno normal, usted cubre las pechugas de pollo o comidas asadas para evitar que se doren en exceso.Al cocinar en el horno microondas, deber usar pequeas tiras de papel de aluminio para cubrir partes peque-as, tales como puntas de alas y patas de aves, que se podran cocinar antes que las partes grandes.
