School Council Elections 2018 Our ‘new’ School Council will meet for the first time on Monday 19th March. This is also the Annual General Meeting and is an open meeting to members of our school community, which starts at 7.30pm in the Prep building (staffroom still being renovated). Congratulations to our newly appointed Council members and I hope they will be able to contribute in a positive and productive way to the overall functioning of our School Council, to policy development and strategic planning in particular. I also thank our ‘retiring’ members who we will refer to in next week’s newsletter. New parent representatives: Robyn Bohun, Rowan Costin, Mathuri Subramaniam and Phil Tanner. New DET employee representative: Tom Fleming.

National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence On Friday 16th March we will be engaging in a range of activities (contextual to the age of each community – Preps, Juniors, Middles and Seniors) which align to the purpose of this national day – as called upon to do by our Prime Minister. These will include a definition of what bullying is and the impact bullying can have upon individuals; the use of videos to prompt open and relevant discussions; when, where and why bullying may occur and strategies to respond and seek support / help and links to specific positive behaviours from our SWPBS matrix. At Mano we teach, prompt and encourage a positive school community through our positive behaviours, where we can feel safe and our community is bully free. We hope some students can share their thoughts and learnings from Friday, at the whole school Assembly at 9am on Monday 19th March.

The national definition of bullying for Australian schools says: Bullying is an ongoing misuse of power in relationships through repeated verbal, physical and/or social behaviour that causes physical and/or psychological harm. It can involve an individual or a group misusing their power over one or more persons. Bullying can happen in person or online, and it can be obvious (overt) or hidden (covert). Online bullying refers to bullying through information and communication technologies, e.g. the Internet or mobile devices. Bullying of any form or for any reason can have long-term effects on those involved, including bystanders. Single incidents and conflicts or fights between equals, whether in person or online, are not defined as bullying. In short, bullying is an ongoing misuse of power in relationships involving a pattern of harmful verbal, physical or social behaviour. Website: http://

The Carnivale is not far away! This big event is now only 6 weeks away. There is a great deal of support required and we appreciate families being able to help prepare for this biennial event. Various donations are being asked for and rosters for help on the day of the Carnivale itself are open for volunteers to indicate their availability. You will be able to login online through Volunteerlocal by using the below link to select the stalls and timeslots that you are interested in http://manifoldheightsprimaryschool.volunteerlocal.com/volunteer/. All volunteers must have a valid Working With Children Check.

Cross Country Event at Fyansford Common On Friday 17th March our Middles and Seniors will participate in this annual event with some students to be selected (on times) to go on further to run against students from other local schools early next term. Buses will leave from Mano at 10 am on this day and return students to school in time for their regular lunch break. We welcome parents and supporters to this event – behind the Fyansford Hotel, near the Barwon River.

Grade 4 Camp Next week our Grade 4 cohort head off to Anglesea for their 3 day camp. We trust it will be a fabulous time and create many positive memories for years to come. They have an action packed program planned for these 3 days including body boarding. Whilst the Grade 4s are on camp, our Grades 3s will join together for activities over the 3 days including a trip to the Melbourne Zoo.

Last Day of Term 1 The last day of this school term is THURSDAY 29th MARCH and classes will be dismissed at 2:30pm on this day. (The Good Friday public holiday is Friday 30th March and is the start of the term vacation). Term 2 commences on MONDAY 16th APRIL at 9 a.m. On the day prior to this we will be holding our regular ‘back to school’ Working Bee – SUNDAY 15th APRIL at 9 - 11am. Please come along and join us as we ensure the school grounds are ready for Term 2 to begin.

healthy facts. We are enjoying the sun while playing outside. Luka found Chess to be an interesting board game. There was a lot of
