residential parks all over England. Since then they have undertaken a development programme that has seen many new homes added, as well as upgrading of some of the park’s infrastructure. Future plans include the addition of a brand new clubhouse for residents, which is due to be delivered to the site in 2021.

‘We love the bungalow lifestyle’Keen to find out a bit more about what it’s like to live on the park, I wandered around and chatted to some of the residents. The first of these were Ruth and Harry Coaker, who moved to the park in 2019, buying a brand-new Stately-Albion Kensington.

Ruth explained: ‘We were living in a flat in the local area but, both having lived in bungalows in the past, we liked the idea of finding another. Looking at this park, we fell in love with this home, which has a lovely modern, open plan interior, so we decided to go for it. We’ve only been married for three years, having both been in previous marriages where our partners sadly died, but we’ve actually known each other for 31 years, as I used to work at the company run by Harry!’

What do they think of their new life on the park? Harry enthused. ‘There’s a great community here and people actually take the time to speak to each other and help out if needed. It’s also very peaceful, with no traffic noise. The location is also excellent as it’s just a 20-minute drive to the seaside and there’s plenty of good walking on the golf course and heathland surrounding the park.’

‘We designed our own home’I then met up with couple Richard Maxted and Pauline Moore, who moved to the park four years ago. Pauline explained: ‘We used to live locally but were looking for a smaller place and we fell in love with this park when we first

An amazing locationThe park is reached via a leafy residential road, on the outskirts of the Dorset town of Ferndown, with many of the large houses lining the road looking like they are for millionaires only. Being 100 years old, the park actually pre-dates most of these homes and enjoys a great spot, on the edge of heathland and overlooking an upmarket golf course. In fact, some of the homes with golf course views have sold for in excess of £500,000.

Residents can walk off the site directly onto the heathland, which is perfect for a daily walk.

A relatively small town, Ferndown boasts all the amenities you’ll need, such as GP and dental surgeries, plus a range of shops and several large supermarkets.

There’s a regular bus service, with a stop close to the park entrance. This provides access to popular seaside resorts like Bournemouth, which is home to nearest major hospital.

It’s a family-owned park, owned and run by Mark and Sally Barney. Enthusiastic Mark was only too pleased to show me around. He explained that he and Sally bought the park in 2014, to add to their small portfolio of

RUTH AND HARRY COAKER moved to the park in 2019, buying a new Stately-Albion Kensington. Ruth had lived in a park home before, some 34 years ago, so she was really impressed when she saw how amazing modern homes are!

RICHARD MAXTED AND PAULINE MOORE bought a new Stately-Albion home on the park four years ago, which they designed to their exact specifications. They love their social life on the park, regularly entertaining on their large decking area.

BRIAN PEARCE moved to the park just over a year ago with his wife Eileen, who has since sadly passed away. He loves the tranquil nature of life on the park, with plenty of walking opportunities in the surrounding heathland, and he says walking helped him to deal with the loss of his wife.

looked round. We used to run a construction company, so Richard took it upon himself to design our own unique layout for the home, which Stately-Albion then built for us.’

What did they choose as part of this unique layout? Richard explained, ‘Pauline wanted a separate dressing room, so our master bedroom has this, as well as two separate en suite washrooms, one for each of us. We also wanted a study room, as well as a second bedroom for guests. We also designed the layout to suit our existing furniture, such as a large L-shape settee that we brought with us.’

What do they think about life on the park? Pauline continued: ‘We love the social life here, regularly inviting people around for drinks, and have made friends with all our neighbours. We’ve got a large area of decking and we regularly sit out and watch the world go by, chatting to friends as they pass.

‘It’s a great place to live and we’re glad we made the move.’

‘We sold our penthouse fl at’Finally, I stopped and chatted to Brian Pearce, who moved to the park in 2019 with his wife Eileen, who sadly passed away at the beginning of 2020. Sitting outside his home, taking in the sunshine, he explained, ‘We used to have lovely penthouse flat in Bournemouth, which we modernised to our taste, so we weren’t looking to move. However, when a glossy flier came through the door, advertising this park, our curiously meant that we came here to look round. We loved the place and also this particular home, which boasted an island kitchen that Eileen had always wanted. I am a retired lighting engineer, having worked in television for many years (Brian designed the original studio lighting set-up for TV’s Who Wants To Be a Millionaire programme), so I loved the light interior of the home.

‘We also loved the leafy location of the park and its tranquil nature, so we decided to go for

The neighbours are friendly and supportive, plus I found that long walks in the surrounding heathland have been a good way to help me recover. Our verdictLone Pine is one of the prettiest parks I’ve come across. Most homes look amazing, with the tall pines providing a dramatic backdrop and the mature planting giving an established feel even to the brand-new homes. The surrounding area, with the heathland and golf course, are equally stunning and rural in feel, yet the park is on the edge of a town, with amenities within a reasonable walking distance. With popular seaside resorts like Bournemouth a short drive

away it’s also good for when the grandkids visit. Most of the residents here were living fairly local before moving onto the park, which is also a good sign, as it shows that the park has a good reputation within the local community and people are keen to move here.
