21st November Night Market

As we approach the end of the term, I want to say a big well done to all our

students and staff for another great term. As always, we pack a lot in. The

recent camp, show team, excursions, sporting trips and wellbeing week

certainly have kept us busy.

With the recent focus on positive wellbeing (which we try to do year round)

through our wellbeing week last week, we know that sometimes small acknowledgements and

gestures can mean a great deal to somebody. We encourage words of encouragement and

promote kindness between students. As a school, we use opportunities such as

Principal / Deputy Principal Awards, Secondary Subject and Values Awards etc, to acknowledge

and encourage our students. These are on top of what teachers do in their classrooms.

With our staff, we recently did our own bucket filling exercise where staff wrote some

encouraging and supportive messages to each other and helped ‘fill’ each other’s buckets. This

is a lovely, private way of recognising, thanking or encouraging staff for their individual efforts.

Our staff also have a special weekly award that is passed from one staff member to another

called the Barack O’Llama Award. Each week the staff member who previously received the

award nominates the next recipient at our staff meeting. This is often a public

acknowledgement of the ‘above and beyond’ stuff that our staff do. Staff get to keep Barack

O’Llama for a week as a trophy to show off. It’s a bit of fun but serves an important purpose to

recognise the amazing staff we have here.

Our most recent recipient was Kristy Clark who was nominated for her amazing leadership and

organisation of our wellbeing week.

Previous award recipients from this year include

Well done to all recipients and we thank them for their valued

contributions to our school.

As a final note, I want to thank and acknowledge Mrs Kristy Clark for

her amazing leadership and coordination of our wellbeing week last

week. What an amazing week with the highlight being the expo on

Tuesday. Thanks again to the Tatiara Council for their support with

the expo.

Finally, thanks to Mrs Watts, Mr Crane, Mrs Keatley, Maddie, Aaron and the many volunteers for

their support of our Ag Show Team. Their recent trip to Adelaide had the animals and students

represent the school really well. As a bonus, we returned with quite a few ribbons. Well done to

everyone involved.

Canteen news

Our canteen manager Nola has reported that the use of the QKR app for canteen is working very well. The system is very

easy for her to use, and produces excellent reports for her to use in the canteen to prepare the lunches. Thank you to

everyone who updated their child's profile so that lunches are sent to the correct classroom!

Facilities news

Over the next school holidays we will have the refurbishment work to the secondary toilet block actioned – the year 9

students have chosen the colours for the walls, and we will use the same effect on the floor as we have in the primary

block. The product used to coat the walls and floors has assisted greatly in reducing the "smelliness" of the student toilets,

as well as giving them a much needed "fresh, new look"

We also hope to see the shade structure go up over the playground at the front of the school – this will be done in two

stages, with the posts going in first, and a few weeks later the shade over the top. We will also see the continuation of the

external painting of the school, this year continuing on from the junior primary walls and onto the senior secondary external

area.

Finance

Please remember that with all the camps and excursions provided by the school to enhance our curriculum and learning

areas, we are able to assist you with any financial obligations. Please contact me at the school if you wish to set up

payment plans or need assistance – we will always do our best to help our families by providing different options which

may suite you better.

From the Deputy Principal - Mrs Alicia Keatley

Congratulations

It is amazing some of the extra things that our students do and I would like to recognise

a couple of these.

On 6th September, Caitlin attended the SA Training Awards as a finalist in the School

Based Apprentice of the Year Category. This is a fantastic recognition of her hard work

and training in Dental Assisting. Whilst she did not win the overall award, being one of

only 4 finalists from all the schools in South Australia, is a massive accolade. As well as

this, before Caitlin even leaves year 12 she is a qualified Dental Assistant. This all

started with a school based apprenticeship after doing work experience in year 10.

Macy applied for and won a position in an Australian Defence Force work experience,

attending an Air Force Aviation camp in August. Macy has previously been accepted into

a Defence Force work experience, but this time she was able to attend a 4 day

programme for women exploring many aspects of a career in the Air Force.

Jaikeb has also been accepted into a work experience with the Defence Force and will

be attending Woodside Barracks in the last week of this term. Jaikeb will get to see

more of what it is like in the Army, which will also be a fantastic experience.

School Based Apprenticeships

At this time of the year students start thinking about school based apprenticeships for next year. A school based

apprenticeship (SBA) gives students who have decided on a career path, the opportunity to start their competence based

training while still at school, and use this training as part of their SACE credits. We currently have a number of students

involved in school based apprenticeships in building, dental assisting, child care, metal fabrication, agriculture, light

vehicle mechanic, commercial cookery and agricultural machinery mechanic.

We have a broad range of businesses approaching the school looking to take on students in an SBA, which is fantastic.

I regularly advertise with students that employers are looking to take on either SBA students or full time apprentices.

If your child is looking into an SBA, discuss with them their career interests and then seek out an employer to get some

experience first.

It is wonderful to see all the local businesses that are currently looking to take on SBA students or full time apprentices,

which opens lots of opportunities for our students. We thank you for your support of our students.

Check out the new Limestone Coast facebook page, which provides some information on apprenticeships and

traineeships. This is a new page that will hold more and more information about careers into the future.

Year 4,5 & 6 Camp

In Week 7, Miss Premrl, Miss Ellis and Ms Price took their classes on camp to Woodhouse Activity Centre. With 78 students

and 8 adults in tow, it was set to be a great camp! Students participated in activities such as orienteering, survivor,

disc golf, team building, The Labyrinth, ice blocking, Challenge Hill, and the overall favourite, tube sliding. With the

exception of rain on our last day, forcing us to re-evaluate the day’s activities, we lucked out with the weather. We arrived

back at school with some very tired children, but they were full of memories and skills that will last a lifetime!

We would like to extend a huge thank you to Mrs Culley, Bron Gurr, Jess Smart, Paul Ruchs and Troy Kammerman for

coming along with us and making this camp possible. Thank you to all the students for being so well behaved, constantly

having smiles on their faces and tackling all the challenges with a growth mindset!
