By tracking the likelihood that people are looking to move jobs, the reasons for doing so, and the most attractive benefits that employers offer, this report helps organisations retain and recruit the best.

As the economy improves, and pay levels rise, employers are at risk of losing valuable skilled people who feel the grass is greener elsewhere. Our poll reveals that staff continue to feel unvalued in their work and poorly managed, leading to unhappy, unsatisfied workers. UK businesses could be looking at a Job Exodus Timebomb in 2016.

Workers are getting itchy feet15.3 million* people, or 49% of UK staff, are considering moving jobs in 2016. Our poll of 2000 employees reveals ongoing dissatisfaction over poor management and a feeling of being unvalued in their jobs.
As the economy improves, employers are running the risk of losing valuable skilled staff if they don’t address these concerns.

The UK paints a varied picture in terms of job satisfaction across the country. These are the
regions at the bottom of the unhappy league.
Headline statistics:
26%believe the jobs market has improved in the
last year. 18-24 year olds are the most optimistic, with 34% seeing an improvement.
Information technology is the most at risk sector with 58% of employees thinking about changing jobs, followed by health and social care (57%).
Businesses in the West Midlands, London and Scotland fact the biggest staff exoduses, with over half the employees
in each region considering a move.
Pay (27%), Lack of career progression (23%) and the hours worked (19%) are the three biggest gripes for workers across the UK.
The one thing (other than a payrise!) that employers can do to make increase overall happiness, according to employees, is ‘say thank you more’.

Jobseeker outlookWhat does 2016 look like for jobseekers? As the economy recovers we are seeing strong positive signals for staff looking to make their next move. For August to October 2015, 73.9% of people aged from 16 to 64 were in work, the highest employment rate since comparable records began in 1971. The unemployment rate for August to October 2015 was 5.2%, down from 6.0% for a year earlier.

Why are people looking to move?It’s important to understand the key drivers behind employees’ motivations. Poor management continues to top the table as the main reason for employees being unhappy in their role. In sharp contrast to previous years, more people are saying they feel unvalued in work, pushing ‘pay’ down to third place as a reason they are unhappy.
What are the main reasons for you not being happy in your job?
Since 2015 we have seen some major shifts in job satisfaction and the feeling their skills will be more valued elsewhere. 38% feel they will be more valued by another employer.
Poor management is the main reason for unhappiness amongst staff, cited by 43% of employees, followed by not feeling valued (39%) and pay (38%).
