The Ascension is about following the Lord in His

Absence. The Lord ascended and he was glori-

ous, but the fact is that he is no longer the

earthly being or the resurrected companion that

he was; he is gone are we are alone. How does

one con nue when the Savior is gone? The disciples have

memories but one cannot live on memories alone. How does

one have faith when there seems no longer to be signs of God’s

presence?

The disciples knew that Jesus lived on in them.

They believed in their hearts that His Spirit was

always with them. The New Testament letters

were full of verses telling where Christ is to be

found: “Christ lives in me.”

“We are all temples of the Holy Spirit.”

“Christ is in the least of the brothers

and sisters.”

“Nothing can separate us from the love

of Christ.”

Absence is not the end but a new beginning.

St. Cyril of Alexandria in the 4th century said:

“Those who have a sure hope, guaranteed by the

Spirit, that they will rise again lay hold of what lies

in the future as though it were already present.”

The power of resurrection is something that

comes not only in the future but also today, to

help us live the life of the master as whole and

healthy people, pulling our own weight, full of a

sense of mission.

Difficulties remain for the disciples, but underlying everything is

our sense of joy. It is this joy which sustains us. We no longer

have to fear, for Jesus is “with us all days to the end of the

world.”

La Ascensión significa seguir al Señor en Su Ausencia. El Señor

ascendió y fue glorioso, pero el hecho que ya no sea un ser

terrenal o el compañero resucitado que era, y que se haya ido,

¿significa que nos hayamos quedado solos? ¿Cómo con nua-

mos una vez que el Salvador ha par do? Los discípulos enen

recuerdos, pero uno no puede vivir sólo de los recuerdos.

¿Cómo tener fe cuando ya no parece haber señales de la

presencia de Dios?

Los discípulos sabían que Jesús vivía en ellos;

creían en sus corazones que Su Espíritu estaba

siempre con ellos. Las cartas del Nuevo Testamen-

to están repletas de versos diciéndonos dónde

encontrar a Cristo:

“Cristo vive en mí.”

“Todos somos templos del Espíritu Santo.”

“Cristo está en los más pequeños de los hermanos

y hermanas.”

“Nada puede separarnos del amor de Cristo”.

La ausencia no es el fin, sino un nuevo comienzo.

En el cuarto siglo, San Cirilo de Alejandría dijo:

“Aquéllos que enen la esperanza asegurada

(garan zada por el espíritu) de que resucitarán, se

aferran a las promesas del futuro de igual manera

que se aferran a las del presente.” El poder de la

resurrección no se manifiesta sólo en el futuro

sino también en el ahora, para ayudarnos a vivir la

vida del maestro como personas íntegras y sanas,

dando lo que tenemos que dar, con total sen do

de misión.

Los discípulos aún deben afrontar dificultades, pero detrás de

todo está nuestro sen do de alegría. Esta alegría es lo que nos

sos ene. Ya no debemos atemorizarnos porque Jesús está

“con nosotros para siempre hasta el final del mundo”.

May 24, 2019 Brothers and Sisters in Christ, A matter of great urgency related to our ability as Catholics to freely provide and receive the Sacrament of Confession in California has arisen in the form of a proposed law, Senate Bill 360. The “Seal of Confes-sion” – so important for the penitent to feel that they can freely confess their sins and find Reconciliation with God – would be broken by SB 360. This proposed government intrusion into such a central Catholic practice is an affront to our faith and it should be viewed by all as a threat to religious liberty. Our Church is fully supportive of legal initiatives to prevent child abuse and we have devoted an entire ministry in our Diocese to training, protective measures and reporting on this issue. It is important that we as Catholics make our voices heard to those lawmakers who will decide whether this bill becomes law. I encourage you to contact by phone or email the State Senator in the District in which you live immediately. Tell them to vote ‘No’ on SB 360. You may also make your voice heard through the Action Alert process of the Catholic Legislative Network at: www.cacathol ic .org Thank you for your attention to this matter and may God continue to bless you and your families. Durante los últimos 10 años María Elena comparte

su alegría por la vida y bondad con los demás al

desempeñar sus labores como custodia en nuestra

parroquia, tambíen sirve en varios ministerios,

como en el Ministerio de la Eucaris a, es líder de

equipo en el Ministerio de Bau zo y es catequista

de niños para la Liturgia de la Palabra (C.L.O.W).

María Elena es un ejemplo y modelo de valores

diocesanos como la Hospitalidad, Compar endo

la Fe, Colaboración y Reconciliación en todos los

aspectos de su vida. Es una mujer de gran fe, la

cual comparte con compañeros, visitantes y en sus

ministerios, es agradecida, amable y siempre ansiosa

por ayudar a los demás. Honramos a María Elena con la

Condecoración San Bernardino, por su generosidad,

liderazgo y dedicación para servir a la gente en la

Comunidad Católica del Santo Nombre de Jesús.

Kathleen Cejka

Kathie Cejka ha sido una feligresa ac va en el

Santo Nombre de Jesús durante 39 años.

Con nua sirviendo como un Ministro Extraor-

dinario de la Eucaris a, sacristán, lectora,

miembro del gremio del altar, desempeña un

papel vital en el equipo del Ministerio del

Apoyo de Duelo con liturgias y ha apoyado en

los eventos de Fe Familiar. Desde el 2009,

Kathie Cejka es la catequista principal del Rito

de Iniciación Cris ana para niños. Kathie fue

honrada rencientemente por su compromiso

de 10 años con el programa de alfabetización de adultos de

Smiley Library, donde ha enseñado a adultos a aprender a leer

desde el 2009. Su nominador comenta: “Las capacidades de

Kathie Cejka, su corazón servicial, junto con su fuerte devoción

por Nuestro Señor, le permiten servir mientras envejece con

gracia y gra tud por cada día”. Nos complace honrar los

esfuerzos de Kathleen Cejka con la Condecoración de Nuestra

Señora de Guadalupe.

La  Condecoración  San  Juan  Pablo  II  se otorga en reconocimiento, apoyo y es mulo a una persona joven católica entre los

16 y 20 años de edad, que demuestra activamente un profundo compromiso, responsabilidad y un servicio voluntario sobresaliente.

Este joven porta el espíritu de San Juan Pablo II, de construir puentes entre los pueblos e inspirar

a otros a crear paz y armonía.

Jeff Enriquez

Jeff Enriquez es un estudiante en la escuela

secondaría, Aquinas, y un parroquiano del

Santo Nombre de Jesús. El nominador de

Jeff dice: “[Jeff] vive de acuerdo a los

mandamientos que se ecuentran en las

Santas Escrituras, Lucas 10:27 ‘Ama a Dios

con todo tu corazón… [y] ama a tu

prójimo como a mismo.’’’ Al vivir con estos man-

damientos, Jeff es un líder en el Campamento Bíblico

de Verano del SNDJ, también sirve comida a las familia

necesitadas en la Asamblea de Dios en Covina. Y

respondió al llamado para ser el padrino de dos de

sus compañeros para sus Confirmaciones. Jeff, quien

fue confirmado en El Santo Nombre de Jesús, fue

nominado para esta condecoración por la escuela

Aquinas, porque es una inspiración para sus com-

pañeros y amigos, llevando el amor de Cristo a

quienes lo rodean.

Oliver Garcia Tirado

Oliver García Tirado se desempeña

como catequista para el programa

de Confirmación Juvenil y como

voluntario en el Ministerio Juvenil

del Santo Nombre. Él prepara a

los alumnus de 5to grado para los

Sacramentos de Reconciliación y Primera Comunión, apoya en

los re ros, sirve en el altar cuando se necesita y par cipa como

bailarín “matachin” para las celebraciones de nuestra parroquia

en honor a Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe. Oliver recientemente

solicitó una carta de recomendación para ingresar a la Casa de

Formación Serra para discernir un llamado al Ministerio Sacerdotal

en nuestra Diócesis. Oliver ha sido un modelo a seguir, no solo

para la juventud a la que sirve, sino también para el equipo con el

que trabaja. Oliver en ende ampliamente la Fe católica y como

vivir su Fe en la vida co diana, mostrando a todos con los que se

rodea, como vivir y amar a Cristo. Con gran placer, honramos a

Oliver con la Condecoración San Juan Pablo II.

El 20 de mayo de 2019, el día de la iesta de Nuestro Patrón San Bernardino en la Catedral de Nuestra Señora del Rosario,

el Obispo Gerald Barnes honró a algunos feligreses con las siguientes condecoraciones

iglesia (parroquia o centro diocesano) con al menos diez años

consecu vos de servicio y que han impactado significa vamente

en el cumplimento de la vision y misión de la iglesia, mediante un

servicio y/o liderazgo generoso.

Laudato Si’! When you see comment cards or online surveys for hotels, restaurants, and other businesses, give them feedback! First, thank them for all of the good environmental efforts you observe. Then, encourage them to reduce throw-away utensil and drink cup usage, and to incentivize customer use of wash-able items. “We must not think that these efforts are not going to change the world. They benefit society, often unbeknown to us, for they call forth a goodness which, albeit unseen, inevi-tably tends to spread. Furthermore, such actions can restore our sense of self-esteem; they can enable us to live more fully and to feel that life on earth is worthwhile.” (LS, 212).

Sacrament Classes for Children ‐ Clases de Sacramentos para Niños: Catechesis of the Good Shepherd: Ages 3—9 years old In these highly unique, interac ve classes, children work with materials that develop their understanding and rela onship with Jesus, the Good Shepherd.
