Grateful Giving - Joyful Living

My dear friends in Christ,

There are so many things to be grateful for on this Corpus Christi Sunday. Our greatest gift in the Church is our Lord Jesus Himself present for us body, blood, soul and divinity in the Holy Eucha-rist! Beyond this, there are so many other things to be so grateful for. At the Knights of Columbus Convention last weekend, Bishop John preached a beautiful sermon on complaining. He quoted from St. John of the Cross who once wrote, "Anyone who complains or grumbles is not perfect, nor is he even a good Christian." What a hard-hitting statement, but how true it is! Bishop John then went on to say that complaining con-tracts the heart, but gratitude ex-pands the heart to receive even God Himself. How beautiful! As I was saying, we have so many things to be grateful for. At this time, I would especially like to thank those who have been generous with God by giving to our capital campaign. You are seeing the fruits of your gifts. I would also like to continue to thank those who have continued giving weekly to you parishes. At first, the task seemed daunting! We were just able to pay our bills and the church struc-tures were continuing to deteriorate. I personally heard a lot of complaining in grumbling (to use the words of St. John of the Cross), but instead of wallowing in the negativity so many of us decided to take the perspective of faith. Knowing that we can never outdo God in generosity, many of us (including myself) stepped out in faith and began to give a little more to the church. And what do we have to show for it? The structures of the churches are being repaired and ministry has not only not grounded to a halt, but continues to ex-pand! I hope all of us translates this experience of the parishes as a whole into our day to day relationships with God and others. It's truly all about growing disciples, seeking the lost, and advancing the kingdom of God!

May God continue to bless and keep you in His love,

Fr Corey Litzner

Prayer for the Conversion of Terrorists

Heavenly Father., we ask in the name of your Son, Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, that terrorists be converted from

using violence to using peaceful dialogue. May they realize that deliberate killing of human life and destruction of prop-

erty is never in the plan of God to achieve justice and rights. Give wisdom to all to know that a war that deliberately kills

innocent human lives can never be “holy.”

Enable all people to live in purity and honesty pf truth. May all come to know in faith that Jesus Christ is the Way, the

Truth, and the Life. Through the intercession of Mary, Mother of the Church, we

ask that terrorists realize the error of their ways and come to the love and peace that only Jesus Christ can give. Amen
