Dear Parishioners,

There is am old expression that says art imitates life. Something happened last week where that situation was actually reversed, and life imitated art. I don’t know how many of you all have seen the 1944 movie “Going My Way”, in which Bing Crosby won an Academy award for his heartfelt performance of Father Chuck O’Malley, who was sent to the fictional Saint Dominic’s parish to help turn it around. In typical Crosby fashion, he did so with music, laughter, and a lighthearted spirit. But there was a scene in the movie where a Saint Dominic’s church caught on fire, and was totally destroyed.

As most of you know, our candle house was destroyed in a fire this past Tuesday. And just as Father O’Malley in the movie said, “We will rebuild”, so too will we rebuild the candle room at St. Luke’s. The losses were covered by insurance, and we have already begun the steps towards rebuilding a stronger and more fireproof candle house. I know many of you were also very dismayed to see the fire, as I was, but I certainly want to call out the St. Tammany Parish fire department for their quick and very professional work in containing the fire before it did any other damage. Thanks also to those very observant parishioners who noticed the fire, called in the alarm, and who even helped fight the fire with garden houses until the professionals got there to put the flames out. While we did-n’t pass buckets a` la the bucket brigades of Old New Orleans, the fire was put out, and as some of you have seen, the blessed mother statue survived. She will be placed again in the new candle house, to watch over us all. I’ve already received one promised donation of a new Saint Anthony statue, the small one, that was destroyed in the fire. If others among you want to donate smaller items for the candle house, they will certainly be well re-ceived. I will keep you posted as to when the design and construction of the new candle house takes place, but it is on the front burner to be done right away.

Yours in Christ,

Father Pat

iGive Catholic -November 29th, 2016

`The Good Samaritan Ministry is proud to par-ticipate in this year’s I Give Catholic Campaign. Organ-ized by the Catholic Foundation, this one day of giving highlights local Catholic charities, schools and parish projects in need of funding.

You can browse the vetted Catholic causes by visiting www.IGiveCatholic.org. The scope and breath of Catholic charitable initiatives is impressive and makes significant community impact, from providing morally grounded high scholastics to assisting the poor in your own community. Donations to one or more of your favorite charitable efforts can be made on the website as early as Nov 17th. Your approved donation will be charged to your account on November 29th.

Be proud to be Catholic. Support the organiza-tions that uphold our Catholic values.
