Audience feedback

questionnaireI have decided to create a questionnaire in order to gain audience feedback, I did this by thinking of questions that would help me receive effective feedback from my audience.

Who did the questionnaire?

I uploaded my video onto YouTube and Facebook, I then linked up the questionnaire so that people that watched my video were also able to give me feedback through both comments and completing my questionnaire. There was also a question to answer male or female so that I could compare how both genders perceived my music video.

Page 3: Evaluation question three

Explanations of the different questions:

1) How much did you enjoy our music video? This question allows me to see if the music video interested anyone, or appealed to them. They had the choice of four answers, these were; Not at all, It was okay, enjoyable, and very enjoyable. Depending on the answers this will allow us to see how well our video targeted our audiences as we can see if it fits into their favourite music genre. We will also know if the video went wrong somewhere if the majority of answers directed to the ‘Not at all’ choice.

2) Was the music video too short, long or just right? This question will allow me to see what the audience thought of the length of the song and video, this means we can see if the video seemed to drag out, or the opposite as the video may have not featured enough footage. Although we will not be changing the length of our video it will be interesting to see how our audience perceived the length of it.

3) What was your favourite part of the video? (Please specify)This will help us identify the strongest points of our video according to each person that have watched our video, this means that we know what went right so therefore will help us in the future as we will know what worked well and what did not.

4) Was there anything you didn’t understand? (Please specify)This question is designed to help me pick up on things that the audience may not have understood; this could be the storyline, the costume, the song etc. This will therefore help me make any changes that may be needed in order to make sure that the audience will understand our video fully.

5) What was your least favourite part? (Please specify) This question will allow me to see if there are parts of the video that didn’t work, or things that the audience really didn’t like. This will then help if we needed to make any more changes to our video as we want our fans to enjoy all aspects of our work. Things that they didn’t like could also be use of costume, song choice etc.

6) Rate our camera workThis question is simply to know how effective our camera work was, for example the different angles and different types of shots. I want to find this out so that I am aware what the audience feels went well or did not, so by finding if our camera work was not effective this means that we know what to do in order to gain success next time.

7) Rate our editingThis question is similar to the previous question however it focuses on our use of editing skills. I want to find this out as I am interested in finding out what are audience thought of how we edited our video, this will also help us see if our audience found our video flowed smoothly or did not.

8) What genre do you think it fits best? This question lets us see what the audiences think the genre is, this will help me see if the audience have taken in our use of conventions and applied this to work out the genre. If they choose anything other than Indie then we will know that the conventions used were not strong enough.

9) Would you listen to more songs like this? This will help us see if the audience that listened to our song actually liked the genre, and especially our band. This will help see if the audience found our music enjoyable and see if the video was effective enough to grab an audience for more than just one song.

10) Do you think use of costume was effective? This will allow us to see the audiences perception on if the costume in our music video worked or not. This means that we can see if it matched conventions of the Indie genre, or if people thought it was out of place.

How much did you enjoy our music video

These were the results from the questionnaire for question one, as you can see the majority of the people found our video to be very enjoyable which was closely followed by the option of ‘Enjoyable.’ This means that people did like our video so we know that our band could become popular as it clearly worked with the audiences. From this question I have learnt that most of the people who took part in the questionnaire did enjoy our work, I also found that nearly all females who watched the video answered very enjoyable. This could mean that our band clearly targets females more than males, which makes sense as the storyline is focused on love and typically females would prefer that kind of story.

From the feedback we also found that are audience thought our video was the right length, as only one person found the video to be too long and no one answered too short. This means that we found the correct length to make our video so that our audience were content. This will help in future as we would know the typical length to make things to keep our audience happy and entertained meaning that they will not become bored and stop listening to our music.

Our audience feedback

Our questionnaire allowed me to see that the most common answer to the favourite part of the music video was the balloon scene. Some people specified that this was because it worked well, and they liked how the lyrics linked with the visuals. This is good as it shows the strongest aspect of our video was the scene with the motif of our band. This therefore shows that it was a good idea as we also included the balloon into our Digipack, which means that if the balloon scene was a strong point then that will become more recognizable and they can link it with our band.

I also found that the scene that the audience found the weakest part was the scene which was darker than the rest. This also was the case for the next question asking if they didn’t understand anything. This shows that the scene didn’t work as well as we hoped and may need more explaining to make clear that our idea behind this was to represent the darkness of breaking up. However, this also shows that the majority of the video did work well as this scene was the only criticism we received from this question. I found that it was mainly males that found this scene to be less strong than the others as most females did not write anything on the question.

better than average

I found that most people found are camera work and editing to be effective, this shows that the way we used and editing our video was to a good standard and it was accepted by our audience so therefore we would be able to use a similar thing again. However some people did say they thought both were ‘basic,’ this shows that it did not work for everyone, and when asked why they had put this I was told that they found that the clips lacked a change in camera angles. From this we have tried our best to mix it up more however it was hard to set up the exact same scene to redo it so we used editing in order to make flow more.

Genre feedbackWhen asked what genre our audience thought the song and video fit into the majority of people answered ‘Indie,’ this is good because it means that we used conventions of the Indie genre effectively as they were able to recognize these and know the genre that we aimed to show. They also linked the questions of this and the effectiveness of costume as they also found the costumes to be effective as they were able to represent the Indie genre.

Our audience feedback

We also looked for feedback through social networking sites; we used sites such as Facebook and YouTube. This was so we could show our video to a wide range of people quickly and with minimal effort required, we were able to ask for feedback and people could choose if they were to take part or not. This also helped as it allowed us to show our video to people with different tastes of music etc. We found from our feedback that a lot of people did enjoy our video as we got a lot of positive feedback such as ‘Would watch it again’ and ‘Nice storyline.’ We also found that people were able to give constructive criticism so we could see where areas of improvement were, for example we found that people picked up that our miming wasn’t 100% effective as the female member of the band mimed to a part of a song that was intuitionally sung by a male, however this is something we don’t feel we should change as we wanted more of a focus of the female member even if she wasn’t the main vocal point of the band.

From the feedback I learnt the strongest aspects of the video and the weakest, I was able to see what worked and make up my mind personally if I wanted to change the scenes that some members of our audiences didn’t enjoy as much or understand as much. Audience feedback has helped me make the video to the highest standard that I could so that the people watching could enjoy our video without finding anything difficult or not effective.
