Evaluation Question No.2

HOW EFFECTIVE IS THE COMBINATION OF YOUR MAIN

PRODUCT AND ANCILLARY TASKS?

Page 2: Evaluation Question No.3

The font I used in my main product and ancillary tasks fits the horror genre because it stands out and is bold. Also the font stands out to the audience because it is personal to the movie meaning it will be remembered wherever people see it reminding them of the film, this makes it highly effective.

The font is used on all three of the trailer, poster and website, this is effective because instantly when seeing either of them the audience knows exactly what it is. In my opinion he combination of these is vital and is very effective in the work I have done.

I think that it is effective because it is simple and ordinary, it fits the genre and the plot of the movie making it effective in my opinion, however I did not only just this font but also another for the date in the release date. This meant it would standout from the rest of the text on either of the products or ancillary tasks making it very effective.

Coloured texted is used throughout the trailer, poster and website. The main colour of the text is often white, due to the background being black, this is effective because it stands out and often horror films tend to use black to represent the unknown so by using that background it meant that I had to use white for the text colour.

The other colour I use for the text is red, this is typically a colour linked with horror, this is effective yet again because it stands out from the background but also with the chosen font it represents.

I think the use of colours I have used are effective because they all represent the horror genre in someway, also by minimising the use of colour it adds a eerie effect to all the products therefore making it effective to the audience. The as a combination between the three products are then effective, allowing you to keep everything simple but effective.

The images I use throughout the products are very limited but usually the same. When creating a trailer, poster and website I didn’t want to five anything away so by limiting the images used it allows you to do so, but also be effective in how you do it. The images links to the plot, and is used in all three products. It shows the audience what to expect in the film, and when seeing the image on either of these they instantly know what movie it is from.

The combination is effective because the main image is used in all three products and ancillary tasks, you’re able to link each product to each other through the image/s used. However, in my opinion it is less effective than other combinations, using less images means that it would be harder to link to the plot, or gain an idea of who was in the movie.

There are social media links on each product or ancillary task however, all in different ways, each having their own effect.

Trailer – At the end of the trailer, the URL links appear at the end of the movie, this being effective because it means that the audience see it almost last so it will last longer in their conscious and means they are more likely to visit the URLs.

Poster – The poster yet again uses the URLs at the bottom. In my opinion it is less effective on a poster because the main thing you want the audience to see is the image and the title. However, it still has its effects depending on where and when the audience see it.

Website – The website uses effective social networking links because you are able to click the social media icons and it will redirect you to the page, for example a Facebook page about our movie.

Music is powerful in a movie trailer, it creates tension and atmosphere, even without the audience being aware of this. The music or background noises are what make a horror movie, this is why I wanted to use effective music throughout the trailer and on the website.

By using eerie music it made the trailer effective because it creates atmosphere for the audience; its also effective because for example when you hear the theme tune to James Bond you automatically know that it’s 007. So, this is effective because the music or sound is linked to the movie so the audience know straight away what movie it is.

Another example is the Exorcist, whenever that music is heard or played, people know exactly what movie it’s from, or can recall it from a horror movie. That’s the effect I believe the music I use should have.

The use of dark settings is seen in every product or ancillary task. From the background, to the music the effect it has in a horror is important. Being a convention of horror it was vital I made it effective and used it within all three products.

It makes the poster effective, because it shows an audience before even looking at it what genre it is likely to be, meaning whether the audience will take an interest in it or not.
