Harry Potter: Engelska projekt

This autumn is really a Harry Potter-autumn. In November the last book in this epic saga is finally going to run in cinemas. We are going to celebrate this by working with the wonderful world of Harry Potter in English class. At the same time you are going to learn more about your new computer. I hope that you will all enjoy this and maybe Iʼll spread my enthusiasm for Potter to some new students. Enjoy!

Assignment 1/ Uppgift 1: The Prisoner of Azkaban (1 lesson)

Start with an empty document. Create a wanted-posterof a prisoner from Azkaban. The prisoner doesnʼt have to beSirius Black. Try to make the poster look like the one to the right.(You may make som changes of course). Donʼt forget to writea description of your prisoner.

Assignment 2: Advertisment in The Daily Prophet (1 lesson)

The Daily Prophet is offering a free advertisment and you are not going to miss this chance! Create a poster/newsletter in the Pages ”model-chooser”. Your advertisment can be about one of the subjects below:

1) Hogwarts2) Diagon Alley3) Hogsmeade4) Quidditch5) Your own choice

Assignment 3: Herbology (1 lesson)

In your herbology-class your teacher, Professor Sprout, has given you an assignment. List at least 10 different herbs (English and Swedish names) and their usefulness. Present your list in a nice way. Important: sources! (You need to tell the reader where you got your information).

Assignment 4: Reading/Writing (2-3 lessons)

Go to www.kidsreads.com/HP07/content/index.asp. There you can find different chapters from different Harry Potter books to read. Choose one chapter. Read a few pages (or the whole chapter if you donʼt find it too difficult). Choose one of the following written assignments:

1) Continue to write what happens next. Use your imagination and make up your own story. (Remember just to write a short summary of the pages youʼve read so the reader will understand).

2) Write a summary of the pages youʼve read.3) Write an article for The Daily Prophet where you describe what has happened in this

chapter/these pages. 4) Your own choice.

Assignment 5: Menu from The Three Broomsticks (1 lesson)

The owner of The Three Broomsticks has asked you to help him create a menu for his restaurant. Use the ”model-chooser” in Pages to create a menu from the Hogsmeade restaurant. What do you think witches and wizards like to eat? Donʼt forget to put the famous Butterbeer on the menu! And remember, wizards pay in galleons.

Assignment 7: Student Houses (1 lesson)

The Sorting Hat is going to select a student house for you this evening. You want to be prepared and must find out facts about the different houses. Write down the differences between these student houses and try to present your facts in an easy way so the reader can compare the facts quickly.

The four student houses are: Hufflepuff, Slytherin, Ravenclaw and Gryffindor.

Assignment 8: Group-assignment: Movie (3 lessons)

In groups, which your teacher decides, use i-movie to make an informative short-movie about something from the world of Harry Potter. This task is the last one. We are all going to begin working with this at the same time. (Date info later).

The aim of this assignment is for you to learn how to use i-movie, use English and make a short oral presentation about your movie.

Assignment 9: Writing

What would you do if you were the owner of Harryʼs Invisibility Cloak or Marauderʼs Map for one day? (If you donʼt know what these things are, look at www.kidsreads.com/HP07/content/index.asp). Write a short story.

Assignment 10: Trivia Games

What do you know about Harry Potter? Go to the kidsreads webpage and click on ”Trivia Games”. There you can find a lot of quizes about the books and games. You can also visit harrypotter.scholastic.com/ for games etc. Enjoy!

Assignment 11: Crosswords

Ask your teacher for Harry Potter crosswords. Maybe you can make one yourself? Use the computer and figre out how to create your own corssword.

Assignment 12: Want to read Harry Potter???

If you want to read a book about Harry Potter you can ask your teacher for help.

Assignment 13: Make your own game

Make your own trivia game about Harry Potter, magic, fantasy or another topic connected to this project. If you want to there are webpages where you can create your games and let others try them out. Ask your teacher for help.

Assignment 14: Phobia - a genuine fear of something

People can be afraid of different things. If you have a genuine fear of something itʼs called a phobia.

What different kinds of phobia are there? Use the Internet and try to list the most common kinds of phobia. Present them in a nice way. Important: Sources!
