WHEREAS by "The Stock Diseases Act, 1895," it is provided that it shall be lawful for the Governor to

acquire and set apart, by Proclamation in the Gove?'nnwnt Gazette, such grounds as may be required for one or more Quarantine Stations, on which the necessary sheds and appurtenances may be erected for the purposes of the said Act: AND WHEREAS it is deemed expedient by me, the said Governor, to set apart Temporary Stations: Now THEREFORE

I, the said Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, do hereby set apart as a Temporary Quarantine Station the premises owned by Wesley Maley, Esq., M.L.C., situated within the Albany Municipality, and occupied by Mr. G. H. Hill, used for the purpose of slaughtering Stock.

),1 HEREAS under the provisions of "The Mining Act, f'l 1904," it is lawful for the Governor, by Proclamation,

to alter or amend the boundaries of a Goldfield or District: Now THEREFORE I, Sir Frederick George Denham Bedford, Governor of the said State,. with the advice of the Executive Council, in pursuance of the powers in me vested in that behalf by the said ordinance, do hereby alter the existing boundaries of the iYIt. Malcolm and Mt. Morgans Districts of the Mt. Margaret Goldfield, and hereby proclaim the boundaries of the said districts to be as follows :-

Bounded by lines starting from a point on the South boundary of the Mount Margaret Goldfield situate about 1O~ miles West of the tree marked B82 at Brickey's Soak; thence along the boundary between the Mount Margaret Goldfield and North Coolgardie Goldfield West about 65.\ miles and North about 31 miles; thence East about 6 miles-; thence North about 24t miles, passing through the 24-mile post on the Lawlers to Leonora telegraph line; thence East about 601 miles, passing through Snrvey Mark AN 62, to a point about It miles West of the most South-Eastern corner of the East Murchison Goldfield; thence South along the Western boundary of the Mount Morgans District, and passing through the 15-mile post on the Mount Malcolm to Murrin Murrin Road about 551 miles to the starting point.

1. When a Commonwealth officer who is subject to the Public Service Regulations is summoned or called as a witness on behalf of a State, he shall, as regards his attendance to give evidence, be deemed to be in the performance of his duty as a Commonwealth officer, and no witness fees (other than the expenses, if any, paid by the Commonwealth for his travelling allowances) shall be charged by 01' paid to him on account of his being so summoned or called, but the State on wh()se beh'11f he was so summoned or called shall pay to the Commonwealth snch sum as is sufficient to recoup the sum, if any, paid by it for the travelling allowances of the officer.

Licensing Hawkc?·s. A BY-LAW of the Municipality of Coolgardie, made under l:iection 167 of" '1'he Municipal Institutions Act, 1900," and numbered 114, to amend By-law No. 100 of the said Munici­pality.

In pursuance of the powers conferred by the said Act, the Mayor and Councillors of the Municipality of Coolgardie order as follows :-

1. Any person hawking fruit, fish, vegetables, 01' any a.rticle of merchandiso within the ~Iunicipality, without having obtained a license thereto from the Council, and paying a license fee of '1'hroe pounds (pB;yable 15~. quar­terly) for the stl,lllO, shall, for each such oiIence, be lIablc to a penalty not exceeding '1'wo pounds.

2. Such license Sh[111 be of force [md effect within any part of the Municipality other than Bayley Street, or within nine chains of Bayley Street, and under no conditions whatever shall any hawker, whether licensed or otherwise, ply his trade in any part of the above-named Street, and any person attempting to do so shall, for each such offence, be liable to a penalty not exceeding Ten pounds.

3. Every license, notwithstanding the date of issue, shall be in force until the 31st day of December then ncxt ensuing: Provided that it shall be at the discretion of the Conncil at any time to cancel or suspend any such license for sufficient cause shown.

1. No person shall, between the hoID'S of 8 a.m. and 6'30 p.m., drive or conduct, or cause or suffer or permit to be driven or conducted, any four-wheeled vehicle exceeding the weight of 9cwt., or any two-wheeled vehicle exceeding the weight of 8cwt. along the undermentioned street in the Municipality of l<'remantle, namely:-

High Street, between Cliff Street and Queen Street: PROVIDED it shall not be an offence against this By-law for any person to drive or conduct any such vehicle across any such street where it intersects any other street: PROVIDED further, that any person in going to or from any place situa.ted in the abovc-mentioned street within the above­mentioned boundaries, for the purpose of loading or deliver­ing goods, or in proceeding to or from the place where such vehicle is kept, may drive or conduct any such vehicle along the portion of such street lying between the nearest available intersecting street and the place in' question: PROVIDED lastly, that this By-law shall not apply to any vehicle used exclusively for the conveyance of passengers and persons.

2. Paragraph 11 of By-law numbered four for regulating the general traffic and processions within the Town of Fremantle, published in the Govemnwnt Gazette of the 17th day of JUly, 1903, on page 1842 thereof, dealing with the driving or conducting of heavy vehicles, is hereby repealed.

3. Every person committing a breach of the provisions of this By-law shall, on conviction, forfeit and pay a penalty not exceeding Ten pounds.

A· SSAYS, Analyses, and Determinations of any Western Australian Ore or Rock will be made by the Assayerto

the Geological Survey, when not unduly interfm'ing with official wO?'k, subject to the followinl\' conditions:-

1. Each sample must weigh at least 60z., but not more than 21bs.

2. Each sample must be enclosed in a separate canvas bag or strong paper wrapper, with a slip of paper bearing the mtme and address ofthe sender, together with a private mark by which it may be readily identified.

3. The parcel must be forwarded lJrepaid to :-

Geological Survey Office, Perth.

4.. A letter must be sent at the same time to the same address, stating for what metals the samples are to be assayed, or containing other instrnctions, as the case may be.

(N.B.-It is always advisable to keep duplicate samples of those submitted.)

5. Before any assay is made the prescribed fee must be paid to the Mineralogist and Assayer, or sufficient reasons, in accordance with Section 7 below, be furnished for hlwing the samples treated free of cost.

6. The following fees will be charged:-

A reduction of 20 per cent. on the above amounts will be made in favour of any person submitting in one parcel five or more samples for identical treatment.

7. With the object of encouraging bonafide prospecting, free assays will be made under the following circum­stances:-

(a.) The sample must have been obtained from land within the State not held under lease for mining purposes.

(b.) The exact locality where the sample was found must be disclosed.

(~.) The sample must be of sufficient promise to warrant an assay being made at the expense of the State.

(d.) Free assays will not be made of samples showing free gold, or of tailings or other metallurgical products, or of umpire samples.

8. The Department reserves to itself the right of refusing to make any particular assay, and also the right of publishing at any time the results of an assay made at the public expense.

T HE Commissioner of Railways, in pursuance of the powers conferred upon him by .. '1'he Government

Railways Ant, 1904," does hereby fix the following scale of charges and conditions for the conveyance of naval and -military forces travelling on duty, and also for the con­veyance of stores, horses, etc., and the running of special trains for the Defence Department. and all previous rates and regulations confiicting herewith are hereby repealed:-

NAVAL AND liJrLI'l'ARY OFh'ICERS A.ND MEN.-On pro­duction of Departmental Orders, two-thirds ordinary single fare for single journeys, and half ordintll·y return fares for return journeycl, will be charged when travelling on duty. Minimum fares: First single, 6d. ; second single, 4d. First returll, Is.; second return, 8d. Ordinary fares to be charged if cheaper.

The Commissioner reserves the right not to allow the above-mentiored reduced fares on gazetted holidays, or when holiday excursion fares are in operation to the general public, and to charge full holiday excursion fares on such occasions.

S'l'ORES, HORSES, GUNS, AND AMMUNITION. - Half the ordinary rates; but if conveyed by passenger train, full ordinary rates will be charged. ,

SPECIAL TRAINS FOR DEFENCE DEPAR'l'MENT.-The foreg'oing reduced fares and rates (subject to the reser­vationprovided for in regard to fares) will apply when Special Trains are lun for the Defence Department. but the charge in respect to each of such Special '1'rains shall not be less in the aggregate than 8s. per mile each way, unless the return trip is commenced within twelve hours, in which cas~ the minimum charge for the return trip shall be 4s. per mile.

Minimum-Five pounds (.£5) per train. To operate from 1st July, 1905.

entries for the above exhibition, which will be awarded upon the combined results of the Senior and Publi~ Examination of the Adelaide University, is 19th September, 1905.

BURSARIES. An examination for Elementary School Bursaries, of the

value of £10 each, will be held on 28th and 29th September. Applications to c0mpete will not be received after 11th September. The examination will be confined to Schools outside the Metropolitan District.

SECONDARY SCHOOL SCHOL.\.RSHIPS. An examination for three or more Secondary School

Scholarships, of the value of £50 each per annum, tenable for four years, will be held on 26tlJ and 2ith October. l'he last day for receiving entries is 1st October.

the sum of £8,000 by the sale of debentures, bearing interest I1t the rate of 5 per cent. Pl}l' annum, for the Oonstruction of Roads and Footpaths and for Electric Lighting, as fol­lows:-
