SMARTCINEMA

Executive Summary

Cinema can be smarter.

Hi-Tech IQ consumers want entertainment that comes by way of innovation... the state-of-the art electronics, cutting-edge technology, multiple immersive technologies, and the amazing mixed Augmented Reality technology (AR) platforms.

Consumers already enjoy AR immersed gaming, watch music videos augmented with the technology, own modern vehicles with AR windshield displays, and are familiar with the yellow 1st down NFL ® football line.

This is the eve of the IMMERSIVE ERA / IMMERSIVE AGE / IMMERSIVE REVOLUTION - The period of time during which the majority of the masses are fond of AR technology applications, are proficient and highly skilled at utilizing AR capture tools and devices, and are likely to embrace the technology to the point of inter-dependency. Bottom-line there is a shared notion that lives and lifestyles are far better off, and the world is a far better place, because of the usefulness of immersive AR technology usage.

This Immersive Revolution is a phenomenon that's sweeping the planet. It's a widely known fact that virtual worlds can be more pleasant than the world we live in with its depleting natural resources, man's inhumanity to man, greed, eroding atmospheric environment, and war and strife.

A SmartCinema can meet the entertainment needs of this Immersive Era / Immersive Age / Immersive Revolution generation, the same as consumers did during the Hollywood Silent Film Era, Wartime Era, Golden Age, and Current Modern Age.

In the case of immersion, audiences seem to search for ever more immersive technologies: initially celebrating depth, breath, movement, and interactivity, but then calling for more.

SMARTCINEMA

Introduction

Herein... I am introducing the construct of SMARTCINEMA, based on data and trends behind movie viewing, and assumptions presented below.

Augmented Reality (AR) technology is so key to the immersivity of story narratives, that it can shift Cinema to a more tech-centered paradigm, expand Cinema as we know it beyond its modern boundaries, and cause Cinema to make a quantum leap to a SMARTCINEMA.

SmartCinema is built on the premise that consumers view film inside of cinemas, and outside of cinema walls. The Objective of SmartCinema is for Audiences to enjoy films (SMARTMOVIES) in immersive environments; and for Individuals to enjoy films (SMARTMOVIES) in the format of their choice, when they want to, and where they want it.

The SmartCinema infrastructure is the SCRIPT2SEEN work-flow continuum. The Script2Seen work-flow continuum includes, but is not limited to: scripting, filming, editing, encoding, multi formatting (Multimats), distribution & marketing, cinema delivery, cinema viewing environment immersing, and tech interface enabling.

Script2Seen is a step above the traditional Script2Screen modality. Script2Seen made (SMARTMOVIES) are simultaneously released/delivered to individuals, and to audiences; whilethe standard Script2Screen films are primarily delivered in cinemas, and then released on BlueRay, DVD, Video On Demand, and Videos.

SMARTCINEMASmartCinema is what Cinema could be in an Immersive Era/Immersive Revolution/Immersive Age.

SmartCinema products and services are crafted to follow the footprints of on-the-go consumers and moviegoers.

HALLMARKS OF SMARTCINEMA ARE: SOPHISTICATED CUTTING-EDGE CONSUMER SERVICES; SMARTMOVIES VIEWED IN IMMERSED ENVIRONMENTS; AND SMARTMOVIES WATCHED USING INTERACTIVE PLATFORMS ON SMART PHONES AND TABLETS, WITH CONSOLES OR SET-TOP BOXES, AND USING HIGH-TECH DEVICES.

SmartCinema is a technological triumph of: Muybridge, Morton Heilig, Walt Disney & Roy Disney, John Whitney, James Cameron, and Cinema Fore-bearers.

The most technologically advanced computer digitized film in the history of the Hollywood Film Brand, is also is the highest grossing movie of all time. Visionary Writer and Director James Cameron who should be called The Champion of Digitized Cinema, wrote his treatment for Avatar years before technology existed to bring the project into fruition. Avatar is an absolute technological masterpiece.

SMARTCINEMA -6-

James Cameron, Champion of Digitized Film

James Cameron synced several technology platforms in the film. Every scene was a tightly woven tapestry of digitized technology and cinematography. Even when watching the film with a technical eye-- it was difficult to tell where the boundaries of each technology began and ended.

“2009” was the highest percentage increase (10.0%) of box office grossing years 2006 - 2012. DOMESTIC GROSS Avatar $760,507,625.00

Immersive

TODAY – IMMERSIVE CINEMAS Is a combination of techniques, effects, and presentation systems that draw-in and transport viewers into onscreen story narratives. (When done well... Viewers can loose track of real-time.)

IMMERSIVE EFFECTSSpecial Effects are camera generated optical illusions.Visual Effects are computer generated optical illusions.Virtual Reality is computer generated simulated environment.Physical Effects are sensory effects like the Sensorama.

IMMERSIVE MOTION PICTURE FORMATSStandard Motion Picture Films display in 2D.3D Films are enhanced with the illusion of depth perception. It displaysin three dimensions when viewed with 3D optic eye wear.

IMMERSIVE ENTERTAINMENT FILM VIEWING PRESENTIONSIMAX 3D ® is an entertainment presentation system in Multiplextheaters with large auditoriums, high resolution giant-screens up toeight stories tall, stadium-style seats, and state-of-the-art sound andprojection systems.

It's Not A Futuristic Dream, It's Here Now. Augmented reality (AR) is cutting-edge technology that allows for a digitally enhanced view of the real world, connecting you with more meaningful content in your everyday life. With the camera and sensors in a smartphone or tablet, AR adds layers of digital information – videos, photos, sounds – directly on top of items in the world around us. Source – layAR

The topic of (AR) technology immersivity are discussed on radio shows, reported about on televised stations, blogged and chatted about on the internet, and written in all forms of print mass media.

AR is virtual in the real world. It is a live, direct or indirect view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are augmented by computer-generated sensory input such as sound, video, graphics, and data. It has only been in the last few years that the technology has become fast enough, and affordable enough for the general population to access.

The research company Juniper forecasts that the revenue of the AR industry will reach $1.5 Billion by 2015. 2.5 billion AR apps are expected to be downloaded by 2017.

The marketplace is soon to be saturating with (AR) products, consumer goods, and services. Hopefully-- this means more masses will access the technology.

AR is the silver bullet technology that will augment movies, take film viewing to another level, and enhance Cinema making it evolve to a SMARTCINEMA.

Advantages of embracing AR , leveraging AR, and harnessing AR, will glean novel products, engaging narrative content, integrated services, and interactive presentations. Products, services, and presentations can conceivably be so impressively crafted and digitally mastered, that tech savvy consumers will increasingly crave more of the tech-centric same.

As far as film making … AR has not yet been leveraged, nor taken advantage of by Major Film Brand Industries; but a handful of pioneers are.

Take the first AR enhanced movie I ever watched “Highrise: One Millionth Tower” Highrise: One Millionth Tower was made with interactive Open Source technology and included awesome cutting-edge AR overlays (data, graphics) in narrative documentary film form, about perspective architecture improvements in one neighborhood in the city of Toronto, Canada. http://highrise.nfb.ca/tag/one-millionth-tower/

SMARTCINEMA -9-

A lagging use of AR in the Film Industries may be because of a gross unfamiliarity with this emerging technology. Or pessimism about whether high grade products can be made with AR applications. I say- most filmmakers are in a surveillance mode waiting to see how other industries execute AR in their fields.

AR is integrating into a broad spectrum of fields: advertising, navigating one's environment and the terrain, information sharing, object and image tracking, gaming and skills training, face and kinetic mapping, product development and marketing, architecture and illustrating, health and medical rehabilitation, web browsing and social networking, education and training, consumerism and trade, etc.. With still more industries not yet integrated.

These new digitalis, contemporary technologies, and AR technology, will fit within a well-developed narrative. If used creatively and smartly-- AR and other digitalis, can make our movies more visceral and intriguing, than traditionally achieved on standalone celluloid... 35mm... digital film. I say doing so, will glean a robust return on investment dollars.

Here is a partial list of AR platforms that can be used for film making: AR hologram, AR graphics, AR fiducial marker, augmented reality (AR) (3-D) images, augmented reality modeling, augmented virtuality (AV), augmented reality projection, augmented reality mapping, augmented reality simulated reality, and emerging AR platforms that have not yet become popular applications.

SMARTCINEMA -10-

Let's hope they Don't make movies like they use to.

The place where these technologies and storytelling will merge is likely to be the screen that you carry with you every day, the screen on which you already spend the most time reading, watching, photographing, communicating and interacting. Neal Edelstein, Movie Producer/Director (Haunting Melissa, Mulholland Drive, The Ring, The Straight Story)

A new breed of Movie Magic Maestros will have to pull tricks out of their bags, use smoke & mirrors, perform slide of hands, and pull rabbits from hats, to entertain the Immersive Age Viewer. Elegant products, intelligent services, and sophisticated innovations are relevant for all Film Brand Industries in this new digital film distribution delivery marketplace. Times a tickin' Today’s consumers live in the perpetual present moment. They expect to be able to access information, products and services immediately – in the now.

-11-As Smart as can be.

SMARTMOVIES are viewed inside of cinemas, and watch with interactive platforms on smart phones and tablets, consoles and set-top boxes, and with high-tech devices.

SmartCinema Script2Seen manufactured SmartMovies, are viewed in cinemas and venues, and also for watching in down-load and streaming formats. Virtual AR layers is another twist... instead of just imagery and audio, and with well executed special effects; there can be overlays of AR virtual images, data, graphics, and audio.

Screenwriters face a new challenge, of how to script their story narratives into a scaled digital storytelling form. Digital Storytelling is mediated mass communication combining traditional techniques from television, video production radio, newspapers and magazines with contemporary multimedia tools to deliver informative and entertaining short productions with text, still and motion images, sound, music, and voice.

Creativity can transfer into seconds, as well as in standard one hundred and twenty page conversion feature length Hollywood standard feature film form. Time is an asset, which is why clip-type videos are so popular nowadays. (The shorter the better, for shortened attention spans, and busy involved consumers.) Follow consumers footprints through the online and mobile ecosystems. A challenge is how to script story narratives for mere seconds movies; minutes movies, visual only movies, voice-over only movies, live stream and podcast form movies, movies in soap opera and telenovela form, and other innovative forms.
