SKID Mounted MV Inverter Station is a PV electrical BoP centerpiece.

SKID Mounted MV Inverter Station combines Inverter, Power Transformer and MV Switchgear in a singlepre-fabricated, pre-assembled, on-board connected and tested unit in a lean but rugged assemblytransportable as a single piece.

Explanation Notes :

i. The offered inverter size of 4.80 MVA and the number of x units, has been selected due to opti-mization between AC voltage of 690 VAC and MPPT voltage range in order to maximize theharvest of energy during low radiation conditions (e.g. in the morning or evening or cloudpassages). Attached you will find the PV syst OND files of the subject Inverters so as the range ofSiemens – WSTECH ones, with which you may do the fine tuning verifications and simulations toreach the best applicable combination. The suitability has been preliminary verified also withPVplanet software.

ii. An additional UPS system within the medium voltage inverter station is quoted for just keepingalive IEDs and control-communication in case of lack of normal auxiliary supply, but is notrecommended due to the following reasons:

1. The auxiliary transformer is foreseen mainly for the supply of energy towards the coolingsystem (i.e. the water pump and the fans of the cooling tower), if this transformer wouldhave a defect the inverter has to switch off anyway.

2. The control cabinet does not deliver valuable information after switching of the inverter anddoes not need to be electrified therefore. If the inverter has a grid failure it willautomatically disconnect and comes in safe shut down modus.

3. Due to high ambient temperature inside of the inverter, a standard UPS battery systemwould have short maintenance intervals on the contrary low maintenance may be achievedby use of LiFePo technology batteries but with sensible cost impact.

4. Siemens is however ready to discuss with you this aspect if needed.iii. Siemens confirms that the Inverters proposed can completely fulfill the Grid

Code. A certificate for that will be available in 1 month from order award.iv. Present proposal excludes any Power Plant Controller system outside the interface

communication at the Inverter controller. For sure PPController is a valuable interest item forSiemens and an eventual additional dedicated proposal may be worked out after more specificinformation on the architecture and communication anf functional requirements from your side.

b. Technical description and Data

GeneralThis specification applies for the SINACON PV 4800 inverter.

General requirementsThe MV transformer used in a PV power plant is placed as outdoor transformer. No additional protectionhousing around the transformer is required to enable outdoor operation. The transformer is theconnection between the PV inverter and the medium voltage grid. The transformer has one primarywinding with typically 30kV and two secondary winding with typically 660V. The secondary windings arefloating (IT-system). The PV field can be continuously grounded to earth on the plus or minus side. Inconsequence, the voltage level of the secondary windings can be continuously 660V above or belowground (instead of 364V). The maximal power of the transformer will be up to +40°C and guarantee at upto +50°C shall be according to associated inverter output. The powers of the secondary windings are notalways equal. Under normal operations the loads are nearly identically, but under worst case the powercan be zero on one system and 100 % on the other system continuously. Also one winding system canbe grounded to + PV and the other system to –PV to ground.
