his morning, 79-year-old Rajasthan Governor Kalraj Mishra completes his one year in of-fice at Jaipur’s palatial Raj Bhawan. During this tenure, in complete contrast to his image of very low profile and soft-spoken politician, in his new role, Mishra gives a clear message

to Rajasthan’s political and bureaucratic circles that he is not a rubber stamp Governor.

On the development front, Mishra has proved to be a people-friendly Governor, who has done a lot for the development of six tribal districts and has also exten-sively toured flood-affected areas in Hadoti region. In his role as the chancellor of all the universities of the

state, he had constituted a task force with a view to improve the quality of education. However, he report-edly had some serious differences or difference of opinion with the Chief Minister on the appointment of vice-chancellors in a few universities.

During the ongoing corona crisis, Mishra continues to be a keen ‘watcher’ and remains in regular touch with the political and bureaucratic leadership of the state. Inspite of his simple and Gandhian lifestyle, Mishra had some criticism from relevant quarters in New Delhi and Jaipur for bringing a 1.5 crore luxury Mercedes car for his use at Raj Bhawan. Initially, there

was also some criticism for his ‘frequently’ using the state aircraft for his outside state visits but subse-quently, such trips were suo-moto curtailed by him. After having an excellent initial repo with the Chief

Minister Ashok Gehlot, subsequently during 35-day long Rajasthan political crisis, mainly on account of an internal power game war between Gehlot and Pi-lot, Mishra, as the constitutional head of the state, had some unpleasant and strained relationship with the third time Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on the issue of calling a special assembly session, in the

manner and on the dates, as recommended by Ge-hlot cabinet. When Gehlot emerged as the final

winner in this entire game, the relationship between Mishra and Gehlot, also got ‘re-

paired’ in due course. On 8th September 2020, one day before his first anniversary, Mishra and Gehlot

again appeared to be two ‘like-minded’ persons, when on Tuesday evening, Gehlot, along with his natural ally

and assembly speaker Dr CP Joshi spent almost 70 minutes to con-gratulate a smiling Governor and

also to release his new book ‘New Thinking-New Dimensions’.

An ‘enthusiastic’ Governor now will be addressing a two-

hour-long video press con-ference at 12 noon.

ontentment makes poor men rich; discontentment makes rich men poor, true to this saying, many have learned that contentment cannot be bought like merchandise. It is an inward feeling of satis-faction reflected by a lack of grumbling.

It seems elusive in a world that fosters a desire for more, bigger, and better things. The virtue of contentment is a jew-el, which is rare these days. It is a secret for those who have never taken steps to attain it.

If we stop breathing air, we will die in a few minutes. If we stop drinking water, we will die in a few days and if we stop eating food, we will die in a few weeks. The supply of these is inexhaust-ible. These gifts that keep us alive can be taken for grant-ed by those who are dissatis-fied with life.

The struggle, to acquire more, induces emotions like anxiety, fear, jealousy, and di-gestive troubles. Mostly, we are too tired or too busy to enjoy the finer things in life. Many believe that their quest for con-tentment would end if they could move to a remote secure island where they can enjoy a tranquil life.

But, can we escape the present circumstances? Ac-cidents, broken homes, di-vorces, strikes, protests, all these are the result of dis-content. Few days pass by smoothly. Plans go wrong and people disappoint us. These setbacks rob us of our peace.

Being content does not mean we stop making efforts to im-prove our circumstances. It should not stifle initiative. At the same time, we can avoid be-ing disappointed when the situ-ation becomes adverse.

We lose patience when something we are waiting for seems to take longer than expected. It is best to set reasonable goals since

comparing ourselves with others robs us of content-ment. It can be attained by having reasonable expecta-tions and cultivating grati-tude for what others have done for us.

Every person wants to be happy. But how many of our waking hours are filled with real happiness? The faces of many reflect worry and sad-ness.

The pace of life is faster than before and the pres-sures are greater, so many things can cause us to be dis-satisfied. The things that we cannot change can give con-stant disturbance if we do not shift our attention to more positive things.

Those who are not content are blind to the good that sur-rounds them. If we do not allow the unpleasantness to get the better of our feelings, we will experience an inward joy. Con-fusion, restlessness, and strug-gling results when we lead a life of extremes.

To have satisfaction, we must acknowledge and rec-ognize our limitations. Our need for rest may differ from others. Without sufficient sleep, even normal activity will be difficult and will make us irritable.

One cannot be happy with-out the affection, warmth, and

understanding that come from people. A peaceful united fam-ily and good friends make life meaningful. Giving and shar-ing ideas or a meal, experi-ences, joys, sorrows, and feel-ings give inner happiness. Helping others can heal deep emotional wounds and give a feeling of fulfillment. Life can be rich if we esteem the abili-ties in other people.

Happiness requires activ-ity, we can be more content if we have something useful to do. The person who de-votes himself to his task us-

ing his best abilities will have a sense of achievement.

Our viewpoint can affect our emotions. Worrying about to-morrow will add to a load of today, it is best to take meas-ures to deal with the day to day challenges. It is possible for us to have more joy when we live each moment with attention, one at a time. Hence, there is no way to happiness, because hap-piness is the way.

Being happy is indicative of contentment. Many sim-ple things add to our refresh-ment – the shine and twinkle of stars, the beautiful sun-set, the cool breeze, song of birds, the fragrance of flow-ers, the mountains, the rush-ing rivers and lazy streams, lush meadows, the patter of rain on the roof makes us thankful for the gift of sight.

Contentment is a goal we can seek to attain. It helps us to avoid the frustration and emp-tiness of a fast-paced life.

It is what we are that counts, not what we appear to be. It is the love we have, not the social position we gain. It is what we can give, not what we can get. A kind thought and wisdom of a person rich in life’s experi-ence – all of this is what it takes to make us happy.

ver the last few months, there has been much discussion of leadership dur-

ing the pandemic. What constitutes good leader-ship? Who has performed better and which countries have been worse? One pat-tern that emerged early on was that women leaders were seen to have handled the crisis remarkably well.

Whether it has been New Zealand under Jacinda Ardern or Taiwan under the presidency of Tsai Ing-Wen or Germany under Angela Merkel, female-led countries have been held up as examples of how to manage a pandemic.

We decided to investi-gate whether this anecdo-tal perception stands up to more systematic scrutiny. To do this, we analysed how leaders around the

world reacted to the early days of the pandemic to see whether differences in per-formance can be explained by differences in policy measures adopted by male and female leaders.

Two qualifications need to be kept in mind – first, we are only at the start of the pandemic and much could change in the next few months. Second, the quality of data currently available is limited. Inade-quate testing means that case numbers are probably an underestimate. The way deaths are registered also varies across countries.

There are far fewer fe-male-led countries in the world when compared to male-led. Just 10% in our sample of 194 countries have women as national leaders. Given the small number of female-led countries, the most appro-

priate way to consider their performance is to match them with “similar” male-led countries. We did this by matching countries with similar profiles for the socio-demographic and economic characteristics that have been seen as im-portant in the transmis-sion of Covid-19.

In the first instance, we compared countries with

similar GDP per capita, population, population density and population over 65 years. We then ex-tended our matching vari-ables to include three other characteristics – annual health expenditure per capita, the number of tour-ists entering the country and gender equality.

Hong Kong, which is led by a woman, recorded 1,056

cases and four deaths while Singapore, which has a similar economy and com-parable demographic char-acteristics but is led by a man, recorded 28,794 cases and 22 deaths in the same period. Similarly, Norway, led by a woman, had 8,257 cases and 233 deaths, while Ireland, led by a man, re-corded 24,200 cases and 1,547 deaths. Taiwan re-

corded 440 cases and seven deaths while South Korea had 11,078 cases and 263 deaths.

Countries led by women have performed better, es-pecially in terms of deaths and this is true whether we consider the nearest com-parable nation, the nearest two, three or even five. Bel-gium is an outlier, having appeared to perform badly on cases and deaths while led by a woman. But de-spite its inclusion, the overall results regarding female-led countries stand.

For example, Finland was better than Sweden, Austria and France in terms of both cases and deaths. Germany was bet-ter than France and the United Kingdom. Bangla-desh fared better than the Phillippines and Pakistan in terms of deaths.

KEEPING CHINA IN CHECK IN LADAKH

atellite images show that Chinese soldiers armed with guns, and medieval-era weap-ons like scythe and spears came very close to Indian soldiers guarding their posts in Ladakh on Monday night. They backed

off after a warning from the Indian side but clearly China seems to be itching for a fight in the region, especially after India’s Special Frontier Force jawans thwarted an attempt by the People’s Liberation Army to grab strategic heights in the area. The Chi-nese, as is their won’t, blamed Indian soldiers for crossing the line and firing at them near the Shenpao mountain region near the south bank of Pangong Tso Lake. As a consequence the border troops of the PLA had to take “counter-measures” and fire “warn-ing shots”, China claimed. India has debunked Chi-na’s charge of aggression and said that it will con-tinue to eschew aggression unless provoked as was done by the PLA in the given case.

The situation along the Line of Actual Control continues to be “very serious” even after the defence minister-level talks in Moscow and earlier dialogues between army commanders of the two sides. For-eign Minister S. Jaishankar told a newspaper that “the state of border cannot be delinked from the state of the relationship”. He also said that “deep conversations at the political level were needed”. With all his China experience, Jaishankar is better qualified to deal with Beijing through dialogue. He is now scheduled to meet his Chinese counterpart in Moscow on September 10. Hopefully better sense prevails in China and it will reconcile with the situ-ation along LAC in Pangong.

WHEN TWO TUSKERS FIGHT, GRASS SUFFERS

he Sushant Singh Rajput case is getting curiouser and curiouser. The death of SSR is out of the spotlight for now as the Narcotics Control Bureau arrested Rhea Chakraborty after sustained interroga-

tion in the presence of her brother. As the drug misuse in Bollywood gets primacy, the Shiv Sena has dug out an allegation leveled against Kangana by Adhyayan Suman, a little known actor. Inciden-tally, Adhyayan is the son of Shekhar Suman who is siding with SSR’s family in its fight against Rhea.

As the Bharatiya Janata Party is using Kangana Ranaut’s petite shoulders to fire its gun at the Ud-dhav Thackeray-led government, the Shiv Sena is viciously attacking the actress and is bent on mak-ing life difficult for her when she lands in Mumbai on Wednesday. If the Centre thumbed a nose at the Shiv Sena and provided Y-category security to Kan-gana who outrageously likened Mumbai to Pakistan occupied Kashmir, the BMC pasted a notice on her office for some illegal constructions. Maharashtra’s Home Minister has said that the Mumbai Police will probe the drug-abuse charge against Kangana.

While the NCB claims it has sufficient material against Rhea and her brother, the Central Bureau of Investigation and the Enforcement Directorate are yet to open their findings in the case. The examina-tion of Sushant’s viscera for poison has been done and the results will be revealed in about ten days.

For now, the drama will be happening in Mum-bai. It has to be seen if Kangana is quarantined on arrival in Mumbai and if she is interrogated for drug abuse.

“In any society, the enlightened section of the society, the writers or writers of the society are like guides, teach-ers of the society. Schooling is over, but our learning process lasts for ages, every day.

Books and authors also play a major role in this,” Modi said.

New Delhi: The Army on Tuesday said Chi-nese troops fired shots in the air and attempted to close in on an Indian position in eastern Ladakh a day earlier as it rejected charges by China’s People’s Libera-tion Army that it trans-gressed across the LAC.

The use of firearms along the LAC marks a serious escalation in bor-der tensions as the previ-ous instance of shots be-ing fired at the de-facto border was in 1975.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Indian Army said its troops ex-ercised “great restraint and behaved in a ma-ture and responsible manner” despite the grave provocation. The Indian Army said its troops did not cross the LAC or open fire at any

stage, denying accusa-tions made by the PLA.

“It is the People’s Lib-eration Army that has been blatantly violating

agreements and carry-ing out aggressive ma-noeuvres, while engage-ment at military, diplo-matic and political level

is in progress,” the statement said.

The remarks by the Army came after the PLA late on Monday

Jaipur: Rajasthan High Court has stayed the state govt order of Au-gust 21 of appointing administrators for Vil-lage Cooperative Com-mittees (VCC).

The court gave the or-ders in a case where 61 VCC from Udaipur had challenged the govt de-cision. After the court orders the elected rep-resentatives whose ten-ure had ended in 2017 and 2020 will continue to handle the working of the respective VCCs. When the state govt or-dered the appointment of an administrator for the Ganesh Gram Seva Samiti in Bhinder tehsil and 60 other village co-operatives in Udaipur, it was challenged in the High Court.

Justice Vijay Vishnoi was told by the petition-ers that the court had earlier directed the state govt to hold the elections of the cooper-atives on time on sev-eral occasions along with instructions to not appoint any adminis-trator to the village co-operatives. The court was told that the coop-erative department had failed to hold the elec-tions on time and was appointing administra-tors to hide its folly.

New Delhi: The Su-preme Court on Tues-day reserved its order on a petition seeking transfer of the investi-gation in a case related to the suspicious death of a student of Nation-al Law University in Jodhpur in 2017, from the Rajasthan Police to the CBI.

A bench of the apex court, headed by Jus-tice Rohinton Fali Nari-man, pulled up the Ra-jasthan Police for the final report filed by it in an attempt to close the case. The bench ob-served that the report

was an “eye-wash” and that there is a need for a fresh investigation. “We all can see that this report is a complete eye-wash and there is a need for a fresh investi-gation. This is not the

way,” the bench said.Senior advocate Man-

ish Singhvi, appearing for the Rajasthan Po-lice, contended that probe was done and there was no suspicious angle found in the death

of the student. The apex court was hearing a plea filed by the stu-dent’s mother seeking transfer of the probe from Jodhpur, Ra-jasthan Police to the CBI or alternatively to a

court-monitored SIT. On July 8, the top court had granted the Ra-jasthan Police two months to complete the investigation into the death of NLU student Vikrant Nagaich. Neetu Kumar Nagaich, the mother of the deceased student, had ap-proached the apex court and accused the state police of “lackadaisical and callous manner of the probe” into the FIR lodged on June 29, 2018, with Jodhpur’s Man-dore PS. ‘Family will get body of Corona patient’A SENSITIVE APPROACH

First India Bureau

Jaipur: State Govern-ment and the Health Department have di-rected to hand over the body of COVID-19 in-fected patients to their family members and to get the cremation done by completely following the medical protocol.

Health Minister Dr Raghu Sharma said that the government apart from being alert and cautious is also sen-sitive. The CM has di-

rected the department to handover the dead body of COVID infected patient to family and get the cremation done by taking full caution.

He said COVID pandem-ic is spreading rapidly in the entire country and any kind emotional negligence could prove fatal to general public.

Dr Sharma said that according to the ex-perts, transmission of COVID-19 infection takes place through droplets. There is no evidence of spreading of infection from the dead body, if the body is handled by taking all precautions along with the standard protocol

It is not important to get COVID-19 test done for every deceased. The COVID-19 test should be done only for those who have died of ILI or SARI. He said that the body of the deceased could be given to the family without waiting for the test report. It is also not necessary to conduct an autopsy of each deceased. If post mortem is done for any specific reasons, then it should be done as per the GOI guidelines.

Provocation at...near the Pangong lake in eastern Ladakh.

India has said that Chinese troops on Monday fired shots to intimidate Indian sol-diers while attempting to close in on a forward position held by the army along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) on the southern bank of Pangong Tso in east-ern Ladakh where the border row has wors-ened.

India and China ex-changed accusations just four days after De-fence Minister Rajnath Singh and his Chinese counterpart Gen. Wei

Fenghe held talks in Moscow on ways to ease tensions at the border. They met last Friday on the sidelines of a Shang-hai Cooperation Organ-isation (SCO) meet.

“At no stage has the Indian Army trans-gressed across the LAC or resorted to use of any aggressive means, including firing. It is the PLA that has been blatantly violating agreements and carry-ing out aggressive manuveres, while en-gagement at military, diplomatic and political level is in progress,” the Army said.

“In the instant case

on September 7, it was the PLA troops who were attempting to close-in with one of our forward positions along the LAC and when dis-suaded by own (Indian) troops, PLA troops fired a few rounds in the air in an attempt to intimi-date own troops,” the statement added.

It further said that despite the “grave prov-ocation”, Indian troops exercised “great re-straint” and behaved in a mature and responsi-ble manner.

The Army termed the statement issued by the Western Theater Com-mand of the PLA as an

attempt to mislead their domestic and interna-tional audience.

“The Indian Army is committed to maintain-ing peace and tranquil-ity, however is also de-termined to protect na-tional integrity and sovereignty at all costs,” the Army said.

“India, while is com-mitted to disengage-ment and de-escalating the situation on the LAC, China continues to undertake provoca-tive activities to esca-late.”

Senior Colonel Zhang Shuili, a spokesperson of PLA’s Western Theat-er Command, in a state-

ment on Monday night alleged that Indian troops again illegally crossed the LAC and “outrageously fired” warning shots on Chi-nese border patrol sol-diers who were about to negotiate.

India recently out-flanked China by taking control of strategic height near Pangong lake’s southern bank. It thwarted an attempt by the Chinese army to transgress into Indian areas near the southern bank of Pangong Tso near Chushul in Ladakh.

Chinese troops were forced to take counter-

measures to stabilize the situation, he said without elaborating.

The Indian troops crossed the LAC at the west section of the Chi-na-India border into the Shenpao mountain re-gion near the south bank of Pangong lake, he alleged.

“In India, 53 deaths

Complaints from states about people becoming lax: VK PaulNew Delhi: Highlight-ing repeated com-plaints from states that people are becoming lax in taking precau-tions against COV-ID-19, the Centre on Tuesday said following public health measures like social distancing and wearing masks re-mains key to slowing the pandemic.

Addressing a press

‘Impressive face cannot fetch him seats in double digit’Patna: Hitting back at Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for launching a blistering attack on Lalu Prasad politically as well as personally, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav Tuesday said the JD(U) president’s “impressive face” can-not fetch him seats even in double digit if his party enters poll fray on its own. Yadav, who served as Kumars Deputy in the previous Grand Alliance gov-ernment, asserted that his Samata party could win just seven seats in the 1995 assembly elec-tions and again he could bag a meagre two seats in 2014 Lok Sabha polls when JD (U) fought in alliance with the CPI.

“His (Nitish Ku-mars) impressive face (pratapi chehra) can’t win for him seats in double digit if he fights on his own in his en-tire lifetime It is my claim and challenge,” Yadav said in a tweet. Kumar had Monday

while addressing JD(U) virtual rally made a scathing attack on Lalu Prasad and his family and highlighted comparative statistics to show the pace of de-velopment in Bihar during 15 years of “Pa-ti-Patni Raj” (Lalu-Rabri rule) and as much time under him since then. Kumar has

been on chief minis-ter’s chair since end of the RJD rule in No-vember 2005.

The JD(U) president had also taken a swipe at Tejashwi Yadav by refering seven sins as enumerated by Mahat-ma Gandhi who con-sidered “money with-out work” as a sin among others.

Jaipur: Police have re-solved the petrol pump loot and murder case in less than 24 hours by ar-resting five people while it is still searching for one absconding culprit. Ac-cording to Vishwakarma police Vinit Singh, an em-ployee of Future Gener-ali Life Insurance, Ban-cassurance partner of AU Bank, is the master-mind of the whole misad-venture.

The assailants of pet-rol pump owner Nikhil Gupta, who was robbed and shot on Monday for a bag full of cash, were ar-rested by Nagaur police while they stopped a lux-ury car at a barricading on suspicion. On check-ing the police recovered cash from the car on

which they informed the Vishwakarma police who had alerted the po-lice across the state. The Vishwakarma police rushed to Nagaur and brought the suspects Chetan, Gautam and Ab-

hay to Jaipur who on questioning confessed to the crime. The assailants in preliminary question-ing revealed that it was Singh, who mastermind-ed the whole plan with inputs on deceased Nikh-

il Gupta’s routine of mov-ing with big cash on Mon-days. Chetan and Abhay procured the country-made pistol and cartridg-es from Uttar Pradesh. Police recovered Rs 2.86 lakh from them. Vinit

Singh has also been ar-rested.

It is noteworthy that Jaipur police Commis-sionerate efforts of try-ing to trace the bike used in the loot and murder didn’t bring in any re-sults. It then got busy scanning the CCTV foot-age to identify the cul-prits of armed robbery. It was suspected that the robbers might have es-caped out of city limits despite barricading so as per SOP, other districts were informed about the incident in Jaipur.

DCP East Pradeep Mo-han Sharma said that the accused first went to Kanakpura area after the robbery where they split the share. Later Gautam, Abhay and Chetan hired a luxury car and left for Nagaur.

Mumbai: Actor Rhea Chakraborty’s lawyer said after her arrest by the NCB on Tuesday that she was being hounded by three agen-cies only because she was in love with a man who was a “drug addict” and had “mental health issues”.

Chakraborty was ar-rested by the Narcotics Control Bureau in a drugs case linked to her boyfriend, actor Sush-ant Singh Rajput’s death.

“This is a complete travesty of justice,” said her lawyer Satish Maneshinde.

“Three central agen-cies hounding a single woman, just because she was in love with a drug addict and a per-son suffering from men-tal health issues,” he added.

Rajput, who allegedly hanged himself at his Bandra residence here on June 14, had been been treated by five lead-ing psychiatrists in the city, Maneshinde claimed.

“But he ended up end-ing his life due to con-

sumption of illegally administered medicines and (also) used to con-sume drugs,” the lawyer said, adding that Chakraborty was pre-pared for the worst.

Chakraborty (28) was arrested under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act’s sec-tions 8(c) (sale, posses-sion or manufacture of banned drugs), 20(b)(ii) (possession or use of small quantity of banned drugs) and other relevant provisions.

Apart from the drugs case, she is facing an abetment of suicide case which CBI is prob-ing, and a related money laundering case being probed by ED. —PTI

Dhariyavad: SDM Kartar Singh on Tues-day had a narrow es-cape on Tuesday as the sand mining ma-fia tried to mow him down with an earthmover.

Kartar Singh was on his way from Dan-taliya village to Par-waliya village, on election duty, when he noticed illegal sand mining using a JCB and tractor in a river.

When the SDM ap-proached the JCB, it dangerously went away virtually sniff-ing the SDM’s vehicle.

When the SDM pur-sued the JCB, it at-tempted to mow the vehicle of the SDM more than once.

Later, trapped be-tween the govern-

ment officials includ-ing SDM Kartar Sin-gh, Education Officer Rammohan Meena, home guard jawan, the govt driver on one side and the river on the other side, the JCB fled from the scene.

Police have seized the JCB and are searching for the driver. It is notewor-thy, that a forest team too was attacked some time ago.

Mumbai: In the wake of the ongoing coverage by the Indian media in the investigation of the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, Cine & TV Artists Association (CINTAA) on Tuesday condemned the vilification of actors and film industry on national television.

“The news media, an integral part of the me-dia & entertainment in-dustry has been outra-geously vehement these

last few weeks, in attack-ing men and women from the actors frater-nity as if they are par-ticipants and instiga-tors in an alleged con-spiracy that has occu-pied headlines recently in the public domain,” the statement read.

MAHA PRIVILEGE MOTIONS AGAINST ARNAB, KANGANARuckus prevailed on the second day of the

monsoon session of the Maharashtra Assem-bly on Tuesday, after Shiv Sena moved a breach of privilege mo-tion against Republic TV’s MD and Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami. A similar motion was also moved against ac-tor Kangana Ranaut over her remarks com-paring Mumbai to Paki-stan occupied Kashmir in Maharashtra Legis-lative Council.

DID ‘FALL FROM GRACE’ GROUND PILOT AT RAJ BHAWAN?

Has former deputy chief minister

Sachin Pilot been ‘distanced’ from Governor Kalraj Mishra? The 79-year-old senior politician Kalraj Mishra had taken the oath of office on September 9last year and in the first six months, he gave equal significance to both Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and

Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot. The duo used to call on the constitutional head of the state with a difference of one or two days of each other’s meet, but for the book release function, Pilot was missing from the action while Chief Minister Gehlot will be at Raj Bhawan. Although Sachin Pilot is in New Delhi at the moment, but he is not listed to be present for the function. Have the times really changed for Pilot? —Kashiram Chaudhary

AKAL BADI YA MLA!

The recent spurt in Corona cases has troubled many in the

general populace who used to go out for work and other purposes. However, there are those who used to openly flout the norms and still managed to be saved from the power wielders simply because they are sitting Members of the Legislative Assembly. Well, over the past few months, and certainly during the political crisis, MLAs were at the center of the issue

and openly flouted the health protocol by not following social distancing and not wearing masks. They continued to hold public meetings and agitations, however, now they are scared of being infected as suddenly the cases have spiked. As a measure to safeguard themselves, several have stopped moving out while several others have started distancing themselves from ag-itations of the fear of corona. —Naresh Sharma

Jaipur: British Author Andrew Harvey had once written, “Nothing that happens on the surface of the sea can alter the calm of its depths.” The quote stresses that the deep sea (root) is always calm, Inspite of the surface being ex-tremely agitated. But if anyone wants to

see the exact oppo-site of Harvey’s writ-ings, one need not go far, at least for those living in Rajasthan, since the state is go-ing through a period where there is calmmess on the sur-face, but the depths are in utmost tur-moil. To those ‘uniniti-ated’ in ‘Rajasthani Panchayati’ it would appear that after the month long rebellion

by Pilot camp, the High Command’s decision to bring him back to par-ty fold has been accept-ed ‘universally’. How-ever, the situation is hoplessly jumbled or rather in dire straits. While the party and certainly the earlier warring camps of Ge-hlot and Pilot, may claim that all is well, but political observers reveal that the battle lines are still drawn

between the camps even though the lead-ers of both the fac-tions have called it quits on the war and have joined hands publicly.

Take for example the recent birthday celebration of Sachin Pilot.

The rebel leader’s supporters, in a bid to show that he still en-joys massive support in the public, organ-ized blood donation camps across the state and collected a ‘record’ 45,000 units. While Pi-lot’s supporters took part in the ‘celebra-tion’ with vigour, Ge-

hlot camp legisla-tors main-

tained their ‘social dis-

tance’ from these camps. Moreover, even Pilot camp leaders did not give any place to their counterparts in Gehlot camp in the hundreds of posters pasted across the state. Interestingly, Pilot’s team members have even claimed that in-telligence wing offic-ers were posted at these camps in civil dress and not in police uniform to check on

the ‘political develop-ment’. Political observ-ers claim that this ‘un-dercurrent’ is the rea-son that the two groups will not be together since the divide be-tween them has been etched in stone and the previous ‘strong bond’ can’t be ‘cemented’ now. The main reason ... 102 Gehlot support-ers are in no mood to ‘pardon or accomodate’ 19 rebels!

Jaipur: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday asserted that not only Indian prod-ucts but India’s voice too is becoming more global with the world paying more attention to the country.

Inaugurating Patrika Gate in Jaipur and re-leasing two books au-thored by Patrika Group Chairman Gulab Kothari through a video conference, Modi said Indian media also needs to go global at a time when the country en-joys a “very strong pres-ence” at almost every international body.

“Our newspapers and magazines should have a global reputa-

tion. We should reach digitally across the world in this digital age. Indian institutions should give away liter-ary awards like they are given in different parts of the world. This is the need of the hour and necessary for the country,” he said.

The Prime Minister also lauded the coun-try’s media for serving

people in an “unprece-dented way” by spread-ing awareness on the COVID-19 pandemic and by analysing gov-ernment works and pointing out their shortcomings.

Though the media is also criticised at times, more so in this age of social media, but every-body needs to learn from criticism, he said,

adding this is what makes India’s democ-racy strong.

Praising Kothari’s books- Samvad Upani-shad and Akshar Yatra, for their attempt to pre-serve and promote Indi-an culture, traditions and philosophy, he hoped that the current generation which “de-pends on Google guru” will read them.

“In this age of text and tweet, it is more impera-tive that our new genera-tion is not weaned away from gaining serious knowledge,” he said, ask-ing people to keep a place in house for books and reading them in the same way they reserve some space for worship.

Jaipur: A Governor has to work on basis of Constitution and the state government works for the all-round development of the state , said State Gover-nor Kalraj Mishra on Tuesday.

“With the coordina-tion of the Governor and the state govern-ment, all-round devel-opment of the state takes place in a better way,” Mishra said in the event held on comple-tion of his one year as Rajasthan Governor.

On this occasion, the book ‘New Thinking-New Dimensions’ was released by CM Ashok Gehlot & Speaker of legislative Assembly Dr

CP Joshi.The Governor said

that if he praises the state government for good works, then for any deficiency, he holds

a discussion with the CM separately. He said that he wants the over-all development of Ra-jasthan and wants to make Raj Bhavan of state an example for the country, so it has been decided, to build a con-stitution park here.

CM Gehlot said that sense of affinity in Gov-ernor Mishra is un-matched & he likes his out of the box thinking. The special guest of the function Dr Joshi said that Governor Mishra is a guide to the state. The state is progressing due to his inspiration.

Jaipur: Ajmer divi-sion, comprising four districts with diverse political equations, will be the first divi-sion, the AICC Gen-eral Secretary In- charge for Rajasthan, Ajay Maken will take up for holding meet-ings with party lead-ers to get their feed-back on various is-sues pertaining to the party.

Maken reached Jaipur on Tuesday night. He will be trav-elling to Ajmer today. Moreover, Maken may face differences among leaders, particularly from Ajmer and Na-gaur districts, during his visit to the division on Wednesday.

Congress leaders from Ajmer, Ajmer rural, Bhilwara, Tonk and Nagaur units will meet Mak-en, who was appoint-ed as the new AICC General Secretary In- charge for Rajasthan last month after Sachin Pilot ended his rebellion against the Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot’s lead-ership, following as-surance from the party High Command to look into the issues raised by him.

Pilot has been a

member of parlia-ment from the Ajmer constituency once, from 2009 to 2014 and he enjoys the support of several local lead-ers there. His current assembly constituen-cy (Tonk) too falls un-der the Ajmer divi-sion, but it is not clear whether he will at-tend Maken’s meeting or not.

Moving ahead to-wards the assurance given by the party leadership to the for-mer Deputy Chief Minister, Maken de-cided to hold division level meetings with

the party leaders to know the ground real-ity.

There is a clear di-vide between Ashok Gehlot camp and Sachin Pilot camp in Ajmer congress while health minister Raghu Sharma has another group of lead-ers, in which Deepak Hasani is a prominent one.

Mahendra Singh Ralwata, Hemant Bhati, Kamal Bacolia are considered close to Pilot. Sindhi lead-ers too are divided into two factions.

Since Pilot is the former PCC presi-dent, the party func-tionary of Ajmer too was close to Pilot.

Ajmer has been a BJP bastion for years and both the assembly constituencies in the city too are held by the saffron party MLAs. It was Pilot who steered Congress and won the Ajmer LS seat in 2009 with a massive margin. Since then, he has his own team there.

The Ajmer rural unit of the party is also divided in fac-tions of regional lead-ers. Health minister Raghu Sharma, who has also been Ajmer MP, is the prominent leader here.

New Delhi: China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) has con-firmed that 5 men missing fromArunachal Pradesh have been found by their side, Union Min-ister Kiren Rijiju said.

“China’s PLA has re-sponded to the hotline message sent by Indian Army. They have con-firmed that the miss-ing youths from Arunachal Pradesh have been found by their side. Further mo-dalities to handover the persons to our au-thority is being worked out,” Rijiju said in a tweet. China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) has abducted five boys from Upper

Subansiri’s Nacho re-gion in Arunachal Pradesh, Congress MLA Ninong Ering had claimed on Satur-day and appealed to De-fence Minister Rajnath Singh to ensure their ‘safe return’.

“Five boys have been abducted by China’s People’s Liberation Army from the Upper Subansiri area. Doing something like this

while Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is in Russia meeting his Chinese counterpart, sends a very wrong message to the people here. For this, the state gov-ernment is making every effort with the expansion and strengthening of med-ical facilities, but the infection of this pan-demic can be prevent-ed only through every-one’s participation.

He appealed to the people of the state to wear masks, maintain social distancing, avoid crowded areas, keep social interac-tions to a minimum, leave home only when needed and maintain all other health proto-cols with full respon-sibility.

Gehlot said social distancing and ad-

herence to health protocols are the main measures to prevent the rising in-fection of Covid-19. For this purpose, ac-cording to the advice of doctors, the Chief Minister has decided not to meet anyone for the next one month. During this time he will partici-pate only through video conference.

It is worth noting that in the past few days, about 40 per-sonnel and police personnel associat-ed with the Chief Minister’s security have been found in-fected at the Chief Minister’s residence and office.

Just Wing ItIndian women have the capability of excelling the art of winged eyeliner, which makes them look way too elegant and classy. City First brings you a few of them- from the era

gone by and also the present- who have nailed their looks with winged eyeliners!

ou would have heard a saying that goes like, “Never ask a woman why she is late, if she is wearing winged eyeliner.” This quote is true to

so many levels; applying winged eyeliner is literally a task (an extremely complicat-ed one), and once mastered in it, it can elevate your eye makeup game to another level.

Various stunning beauties in the Bollywood industry have been nailing the winged eyeliner look at different events, for ages. The trend of ‘winged eyeliner’ initially started with Cleopatra’s beau-ty routine, as it was believed by the Egyptians as a way to ward off the ‘evil eye’. It was also believed that the more

the makeup, the higher your status. This style later made way into Bollywood in the 1940s, followed by Hollywood in the 1950s.

Winged eyeliner never fails to give a ‘retro’ touch to the entire look. In Bollywood, peo-

ple have been taking winged-eyeliner inspirations from Madhubala to Sharmila Tagore, and still not being able to match up to those lev-els. Current Bollywood ac-tresses like Deepika Padu-kone, Priyanka Chopra Jonas,

Jacqueline Fernandez, Ka-reena Kapoor Khan and many others have been ruling the red-carpet looks with their stunning and unique ways to rock the winged eyeliner.

From the feline flick and pin-up to the classic cat eye-liner, there are various op-tions you can go for, to ace that breathtaking eye-game. City First gives you a few tips to nail the winged eyeliner and rock that virtual party or pho-toshoot that you are planning!1. Place the brush on the

outer edge of your eye and stroke it on an upward angle.

2. From the point where you ended the stroke, draw an inverted curve, bringing the brush to the inner end of the eyelid.

3. Fill in the blank space between the lines and voila, you have a perfect winged eyeliner. So go out there, level up

your fashion game, and just WING IT!

rudges and vices eat into your happy time. They rule our minds and reduce our ability to rea-son. Thus, you must have often felt that

you have spoken overboard when angry and regret your words later. Words are one of the most critical parts of your lives because they form your communication base. What you convey and how you say it plays a significant role in determining your re-lationships’ success. Right-fully said, words are like ar-rows- once shot, they cannot be withdrawn.

Have you wondered the root cause of grudges? It’s disagree-ment- disagreement with others who do not perceive a situation the same as you. While you may feel that you are right and being more sensible, the other per-son may feel the same. No one is deliberately wrong! The most rational thing to do at such a moment is to let go. Try to look at a situation from someone else’s perspec-tive. Or, simply agree to disa-gree. Put forth your thoughts courteously and give the same chance to another.

A common mistake we all make is to try and convince

others to think like us. Nah- that would only make the world boring. It is so essen-tial to have a free flow of di-verse thoughts and actions. We can accept what makes sense to us or trust your in-stincts. Even if you are wrong, you will learn some-thing new at the right time.

Our beliefs- judicial and re-ligious- influence our rate of

tolerance and acceptance. But, what is the point of pray-ing to the Almighty only to return to shells of envy and grudges later? While deep self-analysis will help you identify your toxic traits, only the determination to bring change will help you cope.

Climbing our ego’s high walls will take us to a new world- the world outside our

stiff cocoons. It is full of pos-sibilities, acceptance, and freshness. Novelty guides that world where we are a lit-tle less critical of others.
