PHONE TAPPING SCARE!T he statement of MLA

Ved Prakash Solanki that phones of some MLAs are being tapped and they are facing threat of action from ACB, the political turmoil has started in the state one again. The leaders of opposition BJP and the ruling Congress exchanged barbs over the matter on Sunday.

“If the state government is tapping phones and spying on MLAs, then

CM Ashok Gehlot should reveal the names of those MLAs whose phones are being tapped. If such an exercise takes

place in any democratic state, then the CM and Home Minister are directly responsible for it and they will have to answer to the public. These apprehensions are because such incident happened a year ago also. This looks like an emergency of sorts. There is censorship and suspicion everywhere.” —Dr Satish Poonia, State BJP president

‘CM & HOME MINISTER ARE DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE IT’

“There is no such tradition in Rajasthan and neither the Rajasthan government taps the phones of public representa-tives. The MLA who has made these allegations should reveal names of MLAs whose phones are being tapped and should meet the CM to take the matter

into his cognisance so that proper investigation is done.” —Pratap Singh Khachariyawas, Transport Minister.

“Such allegations are baseless. A public representative should speak thoughtfully. MLA’s post has many responsibilities and statements should be made accord-ing to it. It is not right to speak without facts.” —Dr. Mahesh Joshi, Chief Whip.

ALLEGATIONS ARE BASELESS, IRRESPONSIBLE

“Conspiracy of spying is going on in Rajasthan under CM Ashok Gehlot’s leadership. This happened earlier too and he admitted in Assembly that phone tapping took place. Rajasthan is going through an extremely bad phase. There is a confl ict in Congress” —Arun Singh,

BJP national general sec and Rajasthan in-charge.

“For the last 2.5 years, there has been an internal tussle in Congress regarding position, power and money. Sometimes they stay in hotels and sometimes use govt machinery wrongly for phone tap-ping. When there is a weak leadership at the Centre, regional leaders run their

Jaipur: A day after Con-gress’ Chaksu MLA Ved Prakash Solanki ac-cused the Ashok Gehlot government of tapping phones, AICC general secretary and Rajasthan in-charge Ajay Maken has sought a report.

The party high com-mand is considering it as indiscipline and is serious and has sought a report.

Solanki, a staunch supporter of former deputy CM Sachin Pilot, had alleged that some legislators had told him that their phones were being tapped. Without naming any MLA who told him about phone tapping, Solanki said that the legislators

fear of being trapped by the agencies.

Meanwhile, BSP MLA Lakhan Singh Meena said the BJP leaders should bring proof of phone tapping. “BJP keeps making such allegations. If any-one feels like this is happening to them then they should at least give proof so that we can do something. They are just making allegations without any evidence,” Meena said.

The report of the board stated that the pa-tients who took treat-ment on time recovered. Black Fungus reached the eyes of about 35 per-cent of black fungus patients. The eyes of about 10 patients were saved while the eyes of 20 patients had to be removed, the re-port said.

Jaipur: Praising CM Ashok Gehlot, Chief Whip Dr Mahesh Joshi said that the govt led by Gehlot took many deci-sions which turned out to be milestones during the pandemic.

‘The CM made one announcement after an-other; be it free vac-cines to people in the age group of 18-44 or a relief package for help-less children and fami-lies. The decisions of lockdown to break the chain, action against black marketing of meds, increase in MLA LAD Fund, package for children who lost par-ents of corona shows sensitivity of the CM.

Govt likely to ease ‘Weekend Curfew’

First India Bureau

Jaipur: Rajasthan gov-ernment is considering to further relax the lock-down restrictions, in-cluding the weekend cur-few, in view of the im-proving situation. The situation is in control as active cases have come down to 8,400 and the in-fection rate is also below 3%, which according to the Ministry of Health and WHO is considered a state of control.

Experts have advised for easing restrictions by taking a gap of two weeks

Along with relaxation, experts have also asked the public to strictly follow the covid guidelines to stay safe

he poll season has begun. In a far-reaching fallout of the three con-tentious farm

laws, the Shiromani Akali Dal has dumped the Bharati-ya Janata Party, its oldest ally in the state, ahead of the 2022 assembly elections. In-stead of the BJP, the Akalis have chosen the Bahujan Sa-maj Party as their poll part-ner. It’s a win-win situation for both. The Akalis have sent a strong pro-farmer message which ought to work to its advantage and the BSP, which has been written off in UP, will get a lifeline in the form of 20 seats in the Dalit dominated areas of the state. These seats earlier formed part of BJP’s share in its alliance

with the Akali Dal.Interestingly, the Akalis

in Punjab have tangoed with the BJP and the BSP is per-ceived as the B-team of BJP in UP. How will the Punjab alliance pan out in Uttar Pradesh where the Sama-

jwadi Party appears to be the lone challenger to the ruling party? Saturday’s an-nouncement by Sukhbir Singh Badal and BSP gener-al-secretary SC Mishra must have caught the BJP’s cen-tral leadership off guard. This is the second jolt to the party in two days after Mukul Roy’s desertion.

The BJP’s position has been considerably weakened in Punjab because of the farm laws and the targeting of Punjab farmers by un-leashing the Enforcement Directorate sleuths on them. It will still be watching Con-gress developments with in-terest for a possible catch to remain an important player in the state where it Hindu card will fail as miserably as it did in West Bengal.

tangoed with the BJP and the BSP is perceived as the B-team of BJP in UP. How will the Punjab

have just finished reading an extraordinary novel, a unique invention of brilliant chaotic English with deliber-ate disregard for grammar and syntax. The title of the book is “All About H. Hat-terr” a comic farce. The au-thor is GV Desani. How many of you have heard his name? Very few I guess.

The novel was published in 1948 in London. It was criti-cally acclaimed including TS Eliot. It sold out in two weeks. Reissued in 1950. Then it went underground for twen-ty years. GV Desani was born in Kenya in 1909 during the Second World War he lived in London, broadcasting for the BBC. After the war he came to India. For fourteen years he practised meditation and yoga, travelled to Japan to study Japanese Buddhism.

I met him only once in 1961, at a function at Sapru

House. Jawaharlal Nehru was the principal attraction. For a while Desani wrote for “The Illustrated Weekly of India”. For several years he taught (I don’t remember what) at Texas University. He died in 2000 at the age of 91, in Fort Worth, Texas.

The hero of the novel is H. Hatterr. An erratic, well read, almost endearing soul who is constantly getting into hi-larious situations and get-ting out of the mess he has created for himself. He can’t make up his mind whether he is on Eurasian Philoso-pher or a believer in Bud-dhism, Christianity or Hin-duism. Desani has created a character who I am unable to define. He is the ultimate lit-erary original.

Now I come to Desani’s glo-riously English, which leaves the reader breathless. It is impure English, but english it is. I must mention that GV Desani was an awesomely well-read writer. He was flu-ent in many languages.

Let me quote a few pas-sages of his stunning non-English English. In spite of its complexity and peculiar wit it flows like a river.

“As it is lowered, I see the huge nickel name-plate, stud-ded on the teak. The em-bossed Gothic micrography on it reads:

‘Mailed cash on delivery to Westminister Abbey. H. Her-terr, Esqur (Mississipi), D Litt (Oxon and Moskva, Ox-ford, PA), Member Academy (France, Tokyo Royal), Hon. M.D London, Dr (Bulgarian Gramatikata), Dr (Uniwer-sytet Polski), DR. Theologiac (Bagdad, Salerno, Montpelli-er, High A Sophia, Heidelberg stadium), M.S. M.S.C (Can-tab), Hon D.D (Canterbury), Vice-President, Red Cross (Headquarters), PH.D (St. Pe-

tersburg, Rus. Soyuz Sotsial-ist- Icheskikn Sovyetskikn Republik), B.A Eton and Har-row WealdStone). Graduat (Harvard), Fellow of The Royal Geographicol, Hu-mane, automobile, Asiatic, Astronomicol and Microscop-ic societies, M. Inst. Fire E (Manchester), Parliamentary Whip, India, Dental Surgeon (Boston, Mass), Chairman (Br. Pharmacopocia), Direc-tor, Limited, liabilities, for-eign assets (Shanghai, Malay, Glasgow, Port Sunlight……..’

Let me give another inimi-table example of GV Desani’s creative invention ability (this word I have made up).

“O Jewell the soles of her feet are as enticing as mango blossom! As spice from Ma-dras! Her speech is sweet, as the dates of Arbi! Her voice caressing, as the touch of the Chameli flower! A sweet-heart wife, her abodomen endowed her by no other than the god-dess Sachi ! forehead by Shakuntla! Buttocks by Ahilya! Navel by Mandotri! Legs by Kadambari! Belly by Madhavi! Nipples by Rambha! Teeth by Hidama! Chin by Chi-trangda! Nose by Sita! Inside by Urvashi! Veins by Devali! Elbows by Savitri! Tongue by Gargi! Head by Kunti! Bones by Modari! Divine, immortal heroines all ! Mana of Radha, Shakti, Parvati, the Mother of the gods! O the smiter-of-hearts! O the fay! A sweet-heart-wife, a sweetheart-wife, blessed with an angels-envied bosom, as seductive as a lake of honey! Ah. The clinging sweetness of her lips!

Nest. ‘O.K Professor. I give you the word lense (English), it is lente (Spanish), lentil (Romanian), linse (German), Lentille (French), Linte (Ital-ian), lens (Dutch), lins (Swed-ish), linte (Portuguese), linse (Danish), soezewka (Polish), linse (Norwegian), cocke (Czech), sociva (Serbo-Cro-at), lenese (Hungarian), lins-si (Finnish), adese (Turkish), lense (Indonesian), renzu (Japanese), kioo (Swahili), lenso (Esperanto), linsa (Rus-sian), facos (Greek), adascha (Hebrew), lens (Yiddish), adasa (Arabic). In Sanskrit it is Kacha, in Hindi, Sheesha, Urdu, Gujarati also Sheesha. Excuse mistakes”

“Consider the name “Jawa-harlal Nehru”. It is literally, ‘Jewellery, Ruby Canal or River’. His father “Motilal Nehru” would be “Pearl Ruby Canal or River”. “Mahatma Mohandas Karamchand Gan-dhi is “Great-soul Fascina-tion- Slave Action-moon Gro-cer”, and “Raja Krishna Hutheesing” “Governor or Ruler Dark Obstinate-lion”

I should clarify. Krishan Hutheesing was Nehru’s youngest sister. Her husband was called Raja.

Can you figure out what your essay stands for?

Would you like to read, “All About H. Hatterr”.

WHY THIRD WAVE OF COVID-19 COULD HAPPEN

he much-talked about third wave of Covid-19 is keeping the government, the scientists at the In-

dian Council of Medical Re-search and the people on tenter-hooks. Why? Right now every-one is gloating over the weaken-ing of the second wave just as some of our leaders boasted of conquering the first wave even as the virus was snuffing out thousands of lives in Europe and America daily. Some dis-miss the fear as a false alarm. Those who warn about the pos-sibility of another wave hitting us point at the slow progress in vaccination. The herd immuni-ty can be developed only when 90-95 per cent of the population is fully vaccinated. That target looks unachievable because vac-cines are in short supply. Quite a few Indian vaccines are still in various stages of clinical trials and will take a few months to reach the approval and produc-tion stages. The government needs to ask SII and Bharat Bio-tech to ramp up production and get more of Sputnik.

‘BJP WOULD HAVE SLANDERED EVEN BR AMBEDKAR AS PRO-PAK’Srinagar: BJP would have slandered even B R Ambedkar, the father of Indian Constitution, as pro-Pakistan had he been alive, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti said, amidst criticism of Congress leader Digvijaya Singh over his remarks on Article 370. Mehbooba said Article 370 -- which gave special status to the

erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir before its operative provisions were nullifi ed by the Centre in 2019 -- was granted by the Constitution drafted by Ambedkar, but it has been “subverted” by the Centre. The BJP has said that Singh’s remarks were part of a larger pattern of the party being “hand in glove” with Pakistan.

MEMBERS OF CONG TO FIX PUNJAB CRISIS; MEET RAHULNew Delhi: Mallikarjun Kharge, Harish Rawat & JP Agarwal, Members of the Congress panel, which was set up to resolve crisis in its Punjab unit, met former party chief Rahul Gandhi. The meeting went on for around 1 hour. The panel was formed by So-nia Gandhi to resolve the differences between party leaders - CM Captain (retired) Amarinder Singh and Navjot Singh Sidhu. With State Assembly elections due next year, the tussle between Captain and Sidhu has become a big challenge for Congress leadership.

UNION MINISTER PIYUSH GOEL VISITS TIRUMALA TEMPLESaudi Tirumala (Andhra Pradesh): Union Railway Minister Piyush Goel on Sunday visited Tirumala temple and offered prayers to Lord Balaji. After darshan, he was given blessings with vedic chants. Goel said that he has prayed to the almighty to protect the world from the Corona pandemic. Andhra Pradesh Finance Minister Buggaa Rajendranath, Tirupati MP M Gurumurthy and others accompanied him. The minister offered prayers maintaining temple protocols amidst COVID-19. —ANI

To buy the medicine, his parents mobilised Rs 16 crore through crowd-funding in a span of three-and-a-half months from 65,000

donors. The medicine, imported from Novartis, USA, landed in Hyderabad after the Centre waived the import duty and even exempted Goods and GST, both to the extent of Rs 6 crore. The doctor who administered the medicine could not be reached for a comment, as it was a gene therapy done through a single-dose injection.

INDIA NEEDS A RESURGENT CONGRESS: KAPIL SIBAL

New Delhi: The Con-gress must bring wide-spread reforms across all levels of the organi-sation to show it is no longer in a state of iner-tia and to present itself as a viable political al-ternative to the BJP, party veteran Kapil Sibal said on Sunday.

India needs a resur-gent Congress. But for that, the party needs to show that it is active, present, aware and is in the mood to engage meaningfully,” the for-mer union minister said in an exclusive in-terview to PTI.

“For this to happen, we will need to have widespread reforms at the organisational hi-erarchy both at the central and state levels to show that the party is still a force to reck-on with and is no long-er in a state of inertia, he said.

Sibal, who was among the G-23 leaders whose letter to Con-gress President Sonia Gandhi last year de-

manding a meaningful overhaul of the party had triggered a storm, acknowledged that at present there is no strong political alter-native to the BJP but

said that Prime Minis-ter Narendra Modi has lost the moral authori-ty to rule and the Con-gress can gain from the current mood in the country. The former

union minister voiced hope that organisation-al elections, recently postponed in the wake of the COVID-19 pan-demic, will happen sooner than later . He

also noted that while forming committees to review election losses is good, it will have no impact unless reme-dies suggested are im-plemented.

Ravi Shankar asks Cong to make its stand clear on Article 370New Delhi: Senior BJP leader & Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad asked Congress leader-ship to make its stand clear on the purported remarks of Digvijaya Singh that his party will have a “relook” at Arti-cle 370 revocation if it returns to power, saying “time of silence is over”.

A row erupted on Sat-urday over Congress leader Digvijaya Singh’s comments in an audio chat on social media that his party will have a “re-look” at Article 370 revo-cation and Jammu & Kashmir’s lost statehood if it returns to power, with BJP accusing him of spewing venom against India in “collab-oration” with Pakistan.

Mr Singh had said: “The decision of revok-ing Article 370 and re-ducing the statehood of J&K is extremely, I would say, sad decision,

and the Congress party would certainly have a relook on the issue.”

Mr Singh was re-sponding to a question about the “way for-ward” on the issue “once the (PM) Modi government is gone.”

Ravi Shankar Prasad (@rsprasad)

It is now more than a day when the central leadership of Con-

gress is maintaining a conspicuous silence on its stand about Article 370. Does

the Congress want restoration of Article 370 as Digvijay Singh has indicated? Time

of silence is over. Please explain your

clear stand.

CM’s post will remain with Shiv Sena for 5 years, says RautMumbai: Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut on Sunday denied reports that Maharashtra chief minister’s post will not remain with his party. The Member of Parlia-ment said that the Ma-harashtra Vikas Agha-di is an alliance of 3 parties which decided that Uddhav Thackeray will be chief minister.

“It’s a rumour that Shiv Sena CM will be

replaced after 2.5 years. When 3 parties formed the government, they committed and decided that CM will be Uddhav Thackeray for 5 years. If someone talks about this, then it is nothing but a lie and rumour,” Raut said. Raut had criticised BJP at a gath-ering on Saturday. Raut alleged in Jalgaon that attempts were made to finish off the party.

New Delhi: The Union Ministry of Education has released Rs 7,622 crore so far in 2021-22 to the States and (UTs) un-der the Samagra Shik-sha scheme, said Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal. This amount has been released for the smooth continuity of free books, uniforms, running of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas, education, vocational education, in-formation and commu-nication technology and digital initiatives. Nis-

hank said the priority of the present government is to promote ‘ease of gov-ernance’ and ‘ease of do-ing business’. For this we had launched a PRA-

BANDH system last year to help conduct ‘Padho and Badho’ meetings to approve the annual plans of the states under Sama-gra Shiksha scheme.

‘PM’s Aspirational Dist Programme improved lives of many Indians’

New Delhi: NITI Aay-og CEO Amitabh Kant said that Centre’s Aspi-rational Districts Pro-gramme -- in line with the vision of PM Nar-endra Modi -- has im-proved lives of over one fifth of India’s popula-tion, adding that a UN development body has lauded Indian govern-ment’s effort that made a difference in the life of 21 per cent of coun-try’s population.

Kant said that India has come a long way as it has achieved substan-tial difference in making a qualitative difference in the lives of the citi-zens of India. So if you are able to make a differ-

ence to 21 per cent of India’s population and in sectors like educa-tion, health, nutrition. It gives me a great amount of satisfaction that we’ve been able to fulfill what we set out to do in a very big way,” he said.

‘SHIV SENA WAS TREATED AS SLAVES IN ERSTWHILE BJP GOVT IN MAHARASHTRA’The Shiv Sena was virtually treated as “slaves” & attempts were made to fi nish off the party politically when it was in power with the BJP in Maharashtra from 2014 to 2019, Sanjay Raut has alleged. While addressing in Jalgaon, Raut said, “The Shiv Sena had a secondary status in the previous government and was (treated) like slaves. Attempts were also made to fi nish off our party by misusing the very power which was enjoyed because of our support”. Raut’s remarks came days after Maharashtra Chief Minister and Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray met PM Modi in Delhi separately, setting off political speculations in the state.

DEFECTIONS BY SEVERAL YOUNG LEADERSThe party has also seen defections by several young leaders to the BJP. On June 9, two-term Lok Sabha MP and former Union minister Jitin Prasada joined the BJP, more than a year after Jy-otiraditya Scindia switched sides, triggering a col-

lapse of the Congress government in Madhya Pradesh. In other states too, where the Con-gress is in power, there are rumblings which could bring trouble for the party. Former Rajasthan deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot,

who nearly walked out last year, is currently in Delhi, & is likely to meet Congress general secre-tary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. In Punjab, there is in-fi ghting between chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh and former minister Navjot Singh Sidhu. Punjab is likely to go to polls early next year. In 2017, the Congress, under Singh, won a comfort-able majority, displacing the BJP-Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) government in the process.

Senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal on crisis in party, also called upon the party to show it is ‘active and in mood to engage meaningfully

Congress failed to drive home the point that minority & majority communalism were

equally dangerous for the country. It has to take it upon itself to provide an alternative

roadmap in the nation’s interest & I am sure, we will emerge victorious in this enterprise.

—Kapil Sibal, Senior Congress leader

‘If you stay in the BJP, you have to sacrifice’

Kolkata: With sev-eral TMC turncoats making a beeline to return to the party, post BJP’s drub-bing in the assem-bly polls, state unit chief of the saffron camp, Dilip Ghosh, said that the ones who wish to enjoy power without mak-ing sacrifices would be asked to leave.

Ghosh, who had said on Friday that party national vice president Mukul Roy’s departure won’t make much of a difference, wrote on Twitter “some people are in the habit of switch-ing parties. If one has to stay in BJP, he/she will have to make sacrifices. Those who only wish to enjoy power cannot stay in the BJP. We won’t keep them,” he tweeted.

Centre may...Jammu and Kashmir was placed under Presi-dent’s Rule after the BJP ended its alliance with Mehbooba Mufti in June 2018. There has been no political process since. In August 2019, the Cen-tre ended the special constitutional status of Jammu and Kashmir

and bifurcated it into two Union territories. There was an expecta-tion that the state elec-tions would be held in tandem with the nation-al elections in 2019, but the Election Commis-sion negated it, citing an administration report that said there was a se-curity risk. The govern-ment “may initiate en-gagement process with the political parties and may discuss statehood and elections”.

National Conference patriarch and Gupkar Alliance chief Farooq Abdullah said they are not averse to dialogue. The Alliance, formed in

August last year, has been inactive for over six months over internal differences. But on Wednesday last Farooq Abdullah visited Peo-ple’s Democratic Party chief Mehbooba Mufti at her home and had a discussion with her and other Gupkar alliance members. Indication of a possible dialogue with Kashmiri leadership has come in the wake of US Congressional hearing in which a top Biden ad-ministration official said that the US is en-couraging the Indian Government to take elec-toral steps in Kashmir.

“Kashmir is one area

where we have urged them to return to nor-malcy as quickly as pos-sible, including we’ve seen some steps taken: The release of prison-ers, the restoration of 4G access, things of that nature. There are other electoral steps we’d like to see them take and that we have encouraged them to do and will continue to do so,” Dean Thompson, Acting Assistant of State for South and Cen-tral Asia said during a Congressional hearing, reports PTI.

worked out for a formal alliance for the polls.

In an interview with PTI, the RLD chief said that his party will not al-low a communally po-larised campaign to ruin the Hindi heart-land state. The RLD chief was tight-lipped on a possible grand alli-ance in Uttar Pradesh to tackle the BJP and said that for him issues come first. “Who can be ac-commodated depends on who is honestly open to working together on the common frame-work,” PTI quoted the 42-year-old leader as say-ing. On political rum-blings in UP over UP

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s political future as CM and re-ports about Cabinet re-shuffle, Chaudhary said the saffron party is try-ing to divert attention by creating an illusion of dialogue to manage the disgruntled leaders.

He also attacked the UP government over the COVID-19 response call-ing it “atrocious” saying no one can forget the pic-tures of dead bodies in the Ganga. Speaking on farmers’ protest and if it would be a key issue in the polls, the RLD chief said that farmers will and should be the big-gest poll issue in India.

New Delhi: Health experts dealing with COVID-19 believe that a nationwide coronavirus serolog-ical survey will be beneficial as it will help in bringing out exact viral load and thus help in building up strategies.

Sero surveys esti-mate as well as moni-tor infection trends in the population which is specifically location-based to un-derstand the current

course of the virus. The Centre recently announced that it would commence a nationwide sero sur-veillance project and has asked the States to participate for fact-based monitor-ing of the situation.

As per experts, se-rological surveil-lance specific strate-gies of particular areas can be built up and following them can further lower the positivity rate.

TO GET BANSI PAHARPURRAM TEMPLE First India Bureau

Sirohi: Independent MLA Sanyam Lodha has raised questions over the action taken by a special team of Excise department that had seized illegal liquor worth Rs 2 cr in Bhujela of Sirohi. The local po-lice and excise depart-ment officials were kept away from entire action as there was suspicion of their complicity.

Now, independent MLA Sanyam Lodha has raised questions on the excise officials who took action. Targeting

the officials in a poetic way, Lodha wrote on so-cial media that those who had come to close the illegal dens, but be-came a part of the show after listening to sound of coins. “When will the real kingpin and gov-ernment servants in-volvement in liquor sei-zure worth crores from Bhujela Sirohi be caught?,” he wrote.

Sawai Madhopur: The forest department has started in inquiry into a viral video, which shows a tiger from Pha-lodi range of Ranth-ambhore Tiger Reserve eating dead chickens on road near zone 10 of the park.

According to the in-formation, a tiger came out of the forest late on Friday night near zone ten in Phalo-di range on Khandar Road. The tiger report-edly ate dead chicken and stayed put for nearly an hour.

The tiger is believed to be T-34. According to veterinary doctors, eating meat from a pile of dead chickens can have an adverse effect on the health of the ti-ger and lead to food poisioning as many cases of bird flu were also reported in the district earlier.

In such a situation, if all chickens had died due to some disease, then it can be fatal for the tiger. Earlier, a vid-eo of a Sambhar deer eating garbage in Ran-thambore’s Jhumar Bawdi forest area had gone viral.

T o revive the lost honour of Board of Revenue, it is

imperative that the judi-cial system and judicial management at the Board is updated. Even the ACB has found short-falls in the judicial work-ing during its ‘surgical strike’ on the Board. But in spite of working on this front, the state gov-ernment is employing a somewhat controversial ploy of breaking the Board of Revenue.

The plan is to divide the judicial and admin-istrative works of the Board as preparations are being made for the formation of a Revenue

Commissionerate for administrative works. The Chief Secretary, in a high level meeting on June 9, has already held the first round of talks with officers in this re-gard. Apart from CS Niranjan Arya, Chair-man - Board of Revenue - R Venkateshwaran and Principal Secretary (Revenue) Anand Ku-mar were also present.

According to the cur-rent working of the Board, there is Chair-man and a dozen mem-bers for the judicial work. But the state gov-ernment wants to bring the administrative work under a Commis-sionerate by dividing the Board into two.

Similarly, nearly 3,000 officials - right from the tehsildar cad-re, to sub-registrar, land records inspector and patwari - will then fall under the Revenue Commissioner and not the Chairman. There-fore, like other depart-ments of the govern-ment, this newly formed Commissioner-ate will also fall under the control of the min-ister and the power of transfer-posting and enquiry regarding the strong force of 3,000 looking after Revenue Administration will also fall within the min-ister’s jurisdiction.

However, the division of Board is not a new

thought, rather the pro-cess has been ongoing for nearly a year. But as soon as the word spread in the corridors of Sec-retariat, it brought with it a ‘rupture’ in the bu-reaucratic and political world because for Ra-jasthan, it will be a dif-ficult path to tread on. It

would be akin to open-ing a pandora’s box.

A retired IAS, who has served as the Chair-man of the Board, be-lieves, “Judicial and Administrative func-tioning in the board goes hand in hand and it is impossible to differ-entiate one from the

other. A judicial body without administrative powers is as useless as a fish without water. The current malady is due to wrong placement policy, non-updation of revenue laws, and too much intervention by Government. Also due to non-accountability of judicial functions and its monitoring. The corruption was in judi-cial work and not ad-ministrative work. The current situation of Board is not due to com-bination of administra-tion and judicial work. This is nothing, but a move by the govern-ment to grab power.”

This plan of the gov-ernment does not seem

to be logical from an ad-ministrative point of view. If the judicial and administrative works of one organisation are done at two places, it will lead to immense confusion.

The division of work between a Chairman and a Commissioner, both chiefs of their re-spective wings, will lead to a clash of au-thority. The bureaucra-cy feels that it could lead to discrepancies in working. If the offices are in Ajmer and Jaipur, it would lead to routine practical prob-lems. Apart from this establishing the senior-ity of Commissioner will also be a tough

task. This plan has all the ingredients of a po-litical tussle as well since political leaders of Ajmer would never want that the Board’s administrative work is shifted to Jaipur which would lead to decreas-ing the importance of Ajmer since after Ra-jasthan was formed, post Independence, Revenue Board had fall-en in Ajmer’s kitty.

Although it is impos-sible to say as to when and how the state gov-ernment will go ahead with their plan, but the mere mention of it has created a whirlwind, of sorts, in the administra-tive and political circles of the state.

Dividing Board of Revenue akin to opening a Pandora’s box!

Barmer: Revenue Min-ister Harish Chaudhary appears to be much wor-ried after his alleged phone recording sent by Punjab CM to Congress High Command, result-ed into a 'miffed' party leadership and Ra-jasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot demand-ing his resignation. However, on Sunday, Chaudhary refuted the various allegations lev-elled against him, refut-ing the same, while warning of a legal ac-tion against the newspa-per that broke the news.

In an exclusive inter-view with First India, Revenue Minister Har-ish Chaudhary, said that he has no connection in the 'Punjab Phone Case'. "I haven't spoken to leaders from Punjab. People in power and power- brokers are try-ing to control politics at other people's expense whereas I have never talked to any leader whether from Punjab, Delhi or Rajasthan or

even High Command. All this is a conspiracy, which is being created to fulfil ulterior mo-tives," Chaudhary said.

On the question of the Chief Minister de-manding his resigna-tion, the Revenue Minis-ter said, "I did not hold any discussion with the Chief Minister regard-ing the resignation and he hasn't asked me for the same. In fact, some people are spreading ru-mours about seeking resignation. There are those who are trying to defame me, as I have reached this stage with-out any political back-

ground purely on the basis of faith and hard work. The decision to make me a minister was that taken by the CM and only he can ask me to resign, but the ru-mours of seeking my resignation are com-pletely wrong."

Chaudhary was also open about Kamlesh Prajapat encounter. "The family was con-tinuously demanding a CBI inquiry regarding Kamlesh encounter, about which CM Gehlot had also asked me for an opinion. I was of the opinion since the begin-ning that the CBI probe

should be conducted so that the truth can be re-vealed. The allegations that are being made about trying to stop the CBI probe are wrong. I keep travelling to Delhi to meet my old friends, colleagues or family members. In the com-ing days also I will be travelling to Delhi. It is not a crime to go to Del-hi and if someone is al-leging about me trying to stall the CBI investi-gation, then they are completely wrong. They should show evidence as to which politician did I talk to about the matter," he stressed.

On one side the Pilot camp is looking for 6-5 of its legislators being provided the ministe-rial berths, on the oth-er hand, the 6 former BSP MLAs are also eye-ing their position, after all they joined the gov-ernment at a critical time. Then there are 13 independent MLAs ea-gerly waiting to be ad-dressed as ‘mantriji’ and those too who have won multiple times and are thus ‘seniors’. But

over and above all

of them are Ge-h l o t ’ s staunch support-

who rallied with the Chief Minister during the tough times of Pi-lot’s rebellion, when it seemed that the gov-ernment may lose its majority, and kept the government ‘alive.’

Therefore, the chal-lenge before Congress, is to find out how & whom to include so that all aspirants are happy & content. It is this chal-lenge that is perhaps posing a huge ‘unscala-ble’ shadow of the par-ty’s efforts to find a suit-able match for the cabi-net. However, now that the buck has stopped with Gehlot, it appears that only he can bring out the suitable ‘formu-la’ so that “Saanp bhi mar jaye, aur Lathi Bhi Na Toote”.

Jaipur: With tensions in the Rajasthan Con-gress rising and the Pi-lot camp becoming edgy, the Congress has stepped up internal de-liberations with all sec-tions and a rejig of the state cabinet is likely soon. Sources said dis-cussions are underway for filling up the nine vacancies in the state cabinet to adjust all sec-tions.

Senior Congress lead-ers, including general secretary in-charge of Congress in Rajasthan Ajay Maken, are hold-ing discussions with leaders of various camps to resolve their grievances. Maken is learnt to have held dis-cussions with Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot

and former deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot.

“It is a work in pro-gress. We are talking to all sections and leaders. We hope to take care of the hopes and aspira-tions of all sections and regions. We are in con-stant touch with all leaders, including Ashok Gehlot and

Sachin Pilot,” Maken told PTI. “We hope to resolve the issue soon,” he added.

Pilot has been camp-ing in Delhi for the last two days and he has held discussions with senior party leaders, in-cluding Maken. He has openly criticised the three-member panel that was formed 10 months ago to resolve differences of party leaders, after he re-belled against Gehlot. Pilot, however, stayed back with an agreement that his people would be adjusted in the state cabinet. Even though many in Pilot’’s camp have been adjusted in the Rajasthan PCC, most of his confidants are eyeing a ministerial berth in the cabinet. —(With Agency inputs)

JAIPUR, MONDAYJUNE 14, 2021

eauty is a matter of culti-vating some good habits to last you a lifetime, said Shahnaz Husain, Chief Managing Direc-tor, Shahnaz Husain and Group, while sharing her

journey in an exclusive interview with City First!

What was your journey like?“My journey has been a rollercoast-er ride and I have thoroughly en-joyed it. I believe that challenges are a part of life and if you keep perse-vering, nothing can stop you from achieving your goal. I must credit much of my success to my daughter Nelofar, who has always stood by me and has always been a constant source of support and encourage-ment. Experience plays a major part in your success story and with time, I have only gotten better.”

What hurdles did you face while pursuing your passion and who inspired you?“When I laid the foundation of the Shahnaz Husain Group, most peo-ple had no idea about herbal beau-ty treatments and were habitual of using synthetic beauty prod-ucts, which had some serious side effects. Therefore, I started to for-mulate my own salon treatments and Ayurvedic products. Since the concept of herbal treatment was relatively new back then, convinc-ing people regarding the effective-ness of the products was one of the biggest challenges at the time.”

Your definition of beauty?“My definition of beauty is health. As long as you are healthy – men-tally and physically – you will look beautiful! Beauty is not quantita-tive. It’s not about the features or

complexion; it’s about how healthy you are and how comfort-able you are in your skin.”

Your Skin / Hair-care mantra?“Different people have different problems and the solutions need to be in-novated accordingly. There is no one-size-fits-all approach, but still, as a rule of thumb, you can follow these steps. Drink plenty of water

(3.7 litres every day on average).

Follow a proper sleep schedule. Sleeping on time and getting prop-er sleep can pre-vent hundreds of diseases.

Don’t use synthetic beauty products. They can often cause permanent damage.

Invest in your body. Don’t expect sud-den results. In-stead, embark on a journey of healing and maintain a proper beauty regimen. It will not only be-stow you with beauty but make you resistant to damage as well.

YOUR DAY

Horoscope by Saurabbh Sachdeva

here is one thing we take for granted and no it isn’t the prob-lem created by the poor or the home-less alone. It exists in posh colonies as

much as it does in slums. And this menace starts at home- from every room of your house.

I am referring to the issue of waste segregation and while much of it is your do-ing, I also hold our heritage brands responsible. After all, if the educated know how to dispose of their garbage, and the heritage brand set exam-ples, the rest of the nation will follow.

Garbage disposal has be-come a real menace, but it’s not that only India produces such massive amounts of waste. Why is it then that we have not been able to nip this in the bud? Corruption, you would say, and I agree. But what corruption is there in your home? Perhaps you would place the blame on your laziness or your “I don’t care” mentality. But I am here to tell you that you should care and you should quit being lazy when it comes to your home.

Ever heard of what goes around comes around? Well, it about time you understood how your actions are detri-mental to your and your fu-ture generations. And no it just isn’t about the risk to marine life or global warm-ing. The problem is much closer to home. Imagine the impact on your health when you drink milk sourced from a cow that is feeding off your

plastic garbage? How would you like your home to be within miles of a landfill? And imagine the nuisance of clogged drains and the stench from a filthy canal that flows by your neighbourhood.

The readers of this article are privileged and educated, but yet you choose to be com-placent. You choose to be the problem when you should in-deed be the torch bearers and be part of the solution. Yes, I am pointing fingers. You must be shown the mirror.

If you decide to change how you impact your life, here are some tips that can help you live a better tomorrow.

AT HOMEThe Bathroom: Please dis-pose of bathroom trash sepa-rately from the kitchen trash. Do not flush sanitary nap-kins down the toilet. Wrap them instead and dispose of them in your bathroom trash. The Kitchen: Separate bio-degradable waste and non-biodegradable waste. You can also place a container outside

your house with food items you no longer need of vegeta-ble and fruit peels for the bo-vines that frequent your col-ony. Broken glasses and bulbs should be wrapped and dis-posed of separately so the people handling your garage do not sustain any injuries. Let’s think of others for good-ness sake. Sell your non-bio-degradable waste to the kab-adiwala. Make sure you clean and dry the used plastic and glass containers before you hand them to him. It is always nice to be thoughtful. You could also convert your bio-degradable waste to compost.

Bottom line: Hand segre-gated waste to the trash col-lector.

It all starts @ HOME

I am hoping someone from Amul, Maggi, Uni-lever, Coca Cola, Nestle

and others will be reading this. As significant con-tributors to the plastic menace, and as heritage brands, they should also be more responsible.

We all love them and there is a reason they con-tinue to be in our kitchens and our hearts. But I fail to understand why they feed into the problem of plastic pollution? They have it within their powers to pick more eco-friendly packaging and also help recycle their packaging. Instead of the tiny icon for recycling on their packag-es, why not make it their main message and educate the public on what those symbols mean if they can-not indeed replace plastic with paper.

Maggi would be no less desirable if wrapped in biodegradable packaging.

And I would desire more Coca Cola beverages if I know that I can give them up for recycling at the store.

I think we all know the problems but I’d like to be-lieve that you don’t act fa-vourably because you are ignorant of the solutions. But with information at your fingertips, can you claim ignorance as an ex-cuse? And being less aware and conscious about the environment should put you to shame. Being rich should no longer mean you can turn a blind eye. I lay the burden on your wealthy shoulders.

And for those who truly want to get involved and help turn this problem around, reach out to the Plastic Cow Campaign. Write to me and we would love to have you become empowered as a responsi-ble member of your house-hold.

The world of entertainment was left shocked when ac-tor Sushant Singh Rajput was found hanging at his

Mumbai residence on June 14, 2020. Known for balancing films with content-driven cinema, Su-shant was one of the most ad-mired actors of recent times. He left his family, his fans and well-wishers, both in India and over-seas, in a lull on June 14, 2020, in what the police initially said ap-peared to be a case of suicide. The ongoing probe into Sushant’s death also highlighted the alleged drug nexus in Bollywood which is

currently being investigated.Seeking apex level probe, fans

of Sushant, some politicians and prominent associations claimed that Sushant’s death was not a suicide and alleged the murder’ was pre-mediated by the Bolly-wood gangs that allegedly func-tion at the underworld’s mercy. Subsequently, Sushant’s family filed a complaint with police ac-cusing his former live-in partner actor Rhea Chakraborty of abet-ment of suicide and cheating among other charges. A lot hap-

pened in this Covid-year post the demise of the Kedarnath actor and three central agencies–CBI, NCB, ED–got involved and are still working on the SSR death case. Except that no angle had been ruled out, the CBI is yet to come out with any major update in the case. There you have the story. I believe it, despite all my efforts, I have been obliged to be-lieve it. It is not within any per-son’s power to erase what is done but it is possible to check the fur-ther progress of injustice. Bit

shocking, regrettable item of news, but still, after all, Sush-ant is not the only one, that’s the way things are — and in any case did not the authorities come to action. There is noth-ing to talk or write about. In these times, that sort of things goes on all the time. Perfectly normal. No, let us speak soberly, plainly — justice is on the move, usual prac-tice, too.

lood donation is a major concern to society as donated blood is lifesaving for individuals who need it. Blood is scarce. There is

a shortage of active blood donors to meet the need for increased blood de-mand. Blood donation as a therapeutic exercise. Glob-ally, approximately 80 mil-lion units of blood are do-nated each year. One of the biggest challenges to blood safety particularly is accessing safe and ad-equate quantities of blood and blood prod-ucts.

Every year, the World Blood Donor is celebrated on June 14, all around the world. This day was first ob-served in 2005 and serves to elevate the recognition of the need for safe blood and blood products. World Blood Donor Day is also cel-ebrated to appreciate the blood donors for their vol-untary, life-saving gifts of blood. This year, the theme of World Blood Donor Day 2021 is ‘Give blood and keep the world beating’. This theme highlights the impor-tance of donating blood and how it can save people’s

lives around the world. This message is especially im-portant at a time when the COVID-19 pandemic has caused a huge loss of hu-man lives across the planet. People can do their part by donating blood at their nearest blood banks if they are fit to do so, or create

awareness about the issue to encourage others to donate blood. India is one of those countries

that experience the high-est shortage of blood in the world. Unavailability of blood on time is what leads to the death of various pa-tients every year. To save those lives, blood donation needs to be encouraged.
