Dear Parishioners, The Holy Father has surprised the entire world by his announcement that he plans to resign. His willingness to relinquish power can perhaps teach us all a lesson in humility. In making this decision, Pope Benedict is following the example of our Savior Jesus Christ, “who, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God something to be grasped.” (Philippians 2:6) It is difficult to let go of power. The Holy Father is doing so for the good of the Church. That is a wise and noble decision.

Fr. Mike

“I have now brought you the first fruits of the products of the soil which you, O Lord, have given me.” Deuteronomy 26:10

Moses and the people of Israel were filled with gratitude to God for saving them. To thank Him, they offered the first fruits of their harvest. Do we give our best to God—our first fruits? It is so easy to take care of ourselves first and give God the leftovers. We need to remember that everything we have comes from God and that we owe it to Him to give our best in return.

We will meet this month on the 4th Monday, Mon, Feb. 25 at the Cozy Café at 12 noon. Cozy Café is at approximately 75th and a little east of Metcalf. See you there! If you have any questions call 913-638-8369

“Encuentro”

Fr. Mike
