What is a Digipak?

A Digipak is a style of packaging used for a single CD or DVD disk or multiple disks. A typical Digipak will fold out like a book or open up on both sides with the disk usually in the middle section.

The outside cover of a Digipak is mostly made of card or paper whilst the disk holder is plastic to stop the disk from bending.

On the outside covers there usually images of the band/artist with their name and title of the album made large for people to read.

DesignDigipaks are designed to fold into a square like regular CD cases.

The front of a Digipak will consist of the title and any names associated with it, for example a band will have their name printed below album name, the cover will also feature either and image of the band which will represent them in some way, or an image which can be related to the title of the album.

Similarly to the front, the back may feature an image of the band of artist or an extended view of the image on the front cover, with most of the information being kept inside.

The inside cover will likely feature the contents of the disk inside, whether that’s a list of all the songs an album or shortened down version of the plot for film.

Styles

Digipaks can come in different styles. The number of panels on a digipak largely depends on the amount of disks it will hold. For example which will only 1 disk might have three panels or a digipak which holds 4 disks might have 6 panels.

The design of a digipak will also largely depend on one factor, which is the artist or type of film. Most artists are known for their own styles so will use that style to promote themselves in the form of art on a digipak, similarly a company like Disney are known for making kids films so on one of their digipaks they might have characters from animated Disney films.
