Grime DigipaksAlbum Covers and music videos

Examples of different Album covers

Analysis of specific DigipaksThese 3 examples of Grime Digipaks are by far the easier ones out of the bunch of examples to reproduce for my own digipak.

These digipaks simply consist of the main artist (standing by either a wall or in a park so basically very urban setting). Then a title of text with the artists name and the name of the album they are promoting. These convey the conventions of the genre very well and are a common aspect to the music videos as well.

A Grime digipak that relates to a music videoBoth use same dark colour scheme. The lighting is low level. The costume is the same. These all get across the same message about the artist – that he is a man of god who also sins.

Stormzy “Gang Signs & Prayer” album cover

More analysis on the actual Album coverArtists name then below the album title.

The main artist “Stormzy”

His friends or “Gang” surrounds Him to portray the gang signs aspect of the album title. The Mese en scene portrays this well As the costumes they are wearingAre typical of what a gang would Wear.

This scene replicates the “last supper” scene featuring Jesus Which then portrays his Loyal to God And the message behind the album As well as the gang aspect which also gets covered.

This album cover features the typical conventions of a Grime digipak in the sense that the main aspects of the cover are the Artist himself, the artists name and then the name of the album. The difference with this one however is that it dosen’t include an urban background that most Grime digipaks have.

Another Grime digipak that relates to a music video

Jaykae “Toothache” single cover

Screenshot from the Jaykae Toothache music video

For the cover of the song you can clearly see they took a screenshot from the music video and incorporated it into the cover for the single. Specifically when the artist is doing a gun finger sign which relates to the topics spoken about in the song.

More analysis on the actual Album coverArtists name then below the album title.

The main artist “Jaykae”

Jaykae is seen doing a gun finger Sign which relates to the violence Jaykae addresses in the song.

Because of the aspect ratio of the music video compared to The ratio for the cover. It Means that you get these Black bars in the cover which Works out quite well with Putting the Artist title and the Parental advisory sign.
