STRATEGIES FOR CRISIS INTERVENTION And PREVENTION- REVISED (SCIP- R) This is the approved program for training staff in a sequential process in the development of skills for crisis prevention and intervention. The focus of this program is to empower staff with methods of assisting and teaching individuals to maintain self-control and to train staff to engage in proactive methods of positive behavior support. The curriculum, developed by the Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities (OMRDD) supports staff awareness of the needs of persons with developmental disabilities and methods of preventing crisis. Staff with direct service responsibilities and their supervisors should be trained, based upon the needs of individuals receiving services . Core, Specialized and Restrictive Personal Interventions are taught.(Restrictive Interventions can only be used by staff that has received instruction in Basic First Aid and CPR). Successful completion requires demonstration of competency performance in the intervention techniques and the score of at least an 80% on a written test . Certification is required within the first 3 months of employment or before working at a behavioral program site. Training is included as part of Orientation. A modified program may be offered to staff that do not have direct service responsibilities . However, these staff would not be considered SCIP-R certified. Annual recertification is required and includes a refresher course and a similar competency exam. Abuse and Incident Reporting and Consumer Rights are presented as a part of the annual recertification
