Dear Annette LeBox, June 2013 Thank you for coming to visit Yennadon Elementary. We have had author visits before, but I have to say you really know how to relate to children and get them excited about writing and publishing. Ever since you have visited our school, my class is all about publishing! You and your books have also inspired Grade Ones to write poems and stories but also to be aware of their environment and want to help. We have had kids making bookmarks to raise money to save Birds of Prey. They have raised on their own over $70 by selling twenty five cent bookmarks. Your books inspire children to take a stand for nature and to learn and preserve the nature we do have. Your nature talk with us has opened a new lens of observation with the plants around us. Watching Salmon spawn will never be the same, and Sumi’s call home will always touch our hearts. As an Educator, your books allow us to teach about life cycles and environmental issues with purpose. Your books make the things we often take for granted personal and alive. Your books have a wonderful way of introducing and teaching scientific information to kids without them even knowing they are learning it. On a personal note, your books have opened a new world of birding and falling into love with my own community of Maple Ridge. I never truly valued the Pit Poulder and other areas in Maple Ridge before. I now look at the nature in Maple Ridge differently and with a greater appreciation! Here is a photo you have inspired… “Best Friends” Thank you for writing and sharing your wonderful books! Mrs. Janine Fitkall Grade One Teacher For 13 years Critical Thinking Educator
