What is a traineeship ?

A traineeship is a training program providing an opportunity to learn all aspects of a qualification or trade.

Trainees enter into a contract of training with their employer and the NSW Department of Education and Communities.

A civil construction traineeship is a nominal two year program which includes on- and off- the job training. There are currently 10 qualifications within the civil construction traineeships.

During the term of the two year training program, the employer will pay the trainees wages while the trainee is receiving training both on and off the job (i.e. TAFE or MBA).

What is civil construction?

In the civil construction industry you can build just about anything. From a major freeway to railways, water storage reservoir or even new housing subdivisions.

Civil construction is anything to do with the earth, water or transport infrastructure. It is a $10 billion a year Australian business that is crucial to Australia’s economy and it needs people like you. Jobs range from the plant operators who drive the earthmoving equipment on construction sites, to the engineers who design the structures and manage their implementation.

civil construction

There is a shortage of skilled workers in the industry so there are plenty of jobs. In civil construction you will have a great future, be able to work anywhere in Australia, in local government councils, private contracting firms and the mining industry.

By completing a civil construction traineeship, you can gain qualifications such as:

› civil construction operations› plant operations› road marking› road construction and

maintenance› bituminous surfacing

› bridge construction and maintenance

› civil foundations› pipe laying › trenchless technology› tunnel construction

If you want a motivating career that provides the rewards of job satisfaction, excellent income potential, working with teams of people plus further opportunities for professional advancement, then civil construction could be your career of choice.

Whether you enjoy working outdoors operating state of the art equipment or you prefer planning and designing infrastructure projects, or jobs where caring for the environment is important, then the civil construction industry has a career path and job options to take you there.

No matter where you begin, you can always advance your career at any time.
